  1. Hey guys I was having a look for a car for a freind and got a bit side-tracked http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/search/vehicle-details/D_15622928/@N=4294962119+417+622+601+350++492&origin=advanced&type=cars&rs=bs&searchType=1&vehicleType=1&pos=10&pr=D_15413708&nr=D_18353848 Maybe someone else may get in on this one. I have no idea what it is really worth. Any one know if this is ok? There are 2 more advertised but at higher prices
  2. Anything is possible if you have the cash or alternatively a bit of mechanical know-how. To pay a mechanic would most likely make the job far too expensive. When I was 16 I swapped out the stuffed auto in my dad's 1963 XM falcon for a tree shift 3 speed. That took me the best part of two days - wot with changing the pedal box steering column and all. I have helped out with a swap-out from manual to auto of a 93 Mazda 323. I still don’t understand why girls prefer auto over manual but I'm glad that with this one we had a crew of 4 sometimes 5 helping. Not all conversions are a 4 person job but I would recommend you find a rusty or smashed(rear end if possible) whole car and do the transplant with the cars side by side. Bring a few mates leave the alcohol till after the job is completed and have a great time with a bit of male bonding skinned knuckles and grease under your finger nails. Most cars are manufactured with all the mountings and fittings to cater for both manual and automatic transmissions so I believe that it should be possible. It would not hurt parking your car next to another manual Celica and checking what is involved before you commit to the job though. You may get to see some things which may cause the job to be either difficult or maybe even impossible. It all comes down to having a little confidence in your abilities and doing a bit of research. If you go ahead with the job I am sure there will be some difficulties but heaps of fun too. Keep us informed of any developments Regards Mark
  3. I once had a teacher tell the whole class in gr 4 that dinos didn't exist. She was sooooo totally wrong. Wish she was alive to see this one. How real does it look?? Except for the man legs. Suck eggs Mrs Salvadore
  4. Should be fairly cheap to get a 22R from the wreckers and drop it in. At least you would have it on the road so you can use it If you are heavy into 4x4ing you would do well to find another vehicle more suited to the off road driving you will be doing. Not to say the Hi-Lux is a slouch by any means but the cost and additional problems you will encounter with a major engine change could make it worthwile to upgrade the whole car. The cost of converting the Lux to diesel would likely be more than getting this one back on the road with a 22R selling it and buying one fitted with a factory diesel If you are looking at towing a car trailer or caravan save the cash and upgrade to a Cruiser or maybe a Prado. They have a bit more weight and would be more stable on the road. Hope you find an economical solution Regards
  5. Welcome to you JP I too am not a real fan of the late model Celicas but they came from the same source. Hope you enjoy the forum Regards Mark
  6. Kenshin X has the best explanation of the difference between under-steer and over-steer, power and torque I have ever seen. lmao
  7. Something that seems to be common in older cars is a problem with the steering column dimmer switch being excessively used for 'flashing'. Most people use this to warn other drivers of radars etc.(naughty naughty). My Celica is suffering with a similar thing. Hmmmmmmmm Inside the switch mechanism the metal contacts get bent from pulling the lever too hard too often and will not make contact with the circuit for the HI beam. Like you have said if you take it to a older auto electrician most of them will be familiar with the problem and should be able to repair yours for a lot less than buying a new switch assembly. I may be able to get you a switch for a wholesale price if it is needed. We have a supplier in Brisbane who will sell to me for less than half retail price. I will ask tomorrow and PM you a price. Regards
  8. Hey Mr Grumble According to the Bosch Parts system there are possibly 2 belts 4PK1165 OR 4PK1180 Easiest way is to steal a relative's sewing tape measure, stick one end to the belt and measure around the whole belt(pulleys and all). This should get you close to what you need. Had the same with a Daihatsu Sirion with no markings on the belt Just don't get caught with the tape measure. lol P.S. The 3PK means 3 rib the 850 means 850mm total length
  9. Hey it could be another night for me just not a Monday or Thursday night. Keep in touch and I will follow this thread to check any more replies thanks Mark
  10. Sorry Anwar I have no info about one of these Regards Mark
  11. Hey guys I would really be interested to come along but I have commitments every Thursday night that I really don't want to miss. Is there any one out in the club who might like to meet up every couple months on a Friday or Saturday nite? I don't want to start a new club or anything like that but when mine is back on the road in a couple months I would like to check out other peoples rides, kick a few tyres and have a chat too. Would anyone be interested?

    DJKOR

It's great to see people out there who are not worried about making themselves look a bit silly. There should be more of it. I too must say the DJKOR machine is worthy of mention even though I have not seen it in person. We all must put in some effort to keep this thread on the first page lol
  13. So why is it that every Volvo cant go like that. I know They are driven by old men wearing bowling hats.
  14. I had a Sony CD stacker fitted to a car I had a few years ago. The guy at WOW said that the stackers do not like being neglected. He said that is is a good idea to run a CD through at least once a month otherwise they get gunked up with dust and the lubricating grease goes a bit hard. When the stacker starts a search for a disk in can't locate the tray properly and then searches for the next disc tray and so on it goes. The idea that Mr Focus has definitely has some merit though
  15. Definately notify yor insurer. Cosmetically it may look A1 but the fittings and mountings may be damaged too. The plastic thingummy (Can't remember the word) in the centre of the bumper can be damaged and render your car unroadworthy Hope all goes well
  16. Hey Frederick The starter seems to be one that I can't find through any reference sites in Australia. I have an American site which my boss uses regularly but even that has very little about this one. The numbers are Denso 128000-8890 and Toyota 28100-11020. According to the site the starter also suits the 92-96 1.5 Tercel and Paseo. They also said that the starter from the 96-99 models of these will fit and although it is a bit shorter seems to be rated at the same power output. The numbers for those are 228000-4030 and 28100-11090. Sorry for getting your hopes up but I can't find anything other than a solenoid and maybe a set of brushes to repair it. Regards Mark
  17. Ya cant beat the sound of a blower begging for mercy. Or maybe begging for more
  18. Hey there Kymbo Good to hear that you have a solution of sorts to get you back on the road. It sucks that the engine rebuilders are a bit dis-interested in helping you to resolve the problem. I think they are lucky to have had a customer who is as reasonable as you seem to be. The temporary fix sounds good but there must be something a bit wrong in there for the lack of oil pressure. I guess that will be something for the next guy who pulls the engine down. When I was younger I rebuilt a Holden Red motor and put the big end bearing shells in on the wrong side and ended up not having the oil squirting up onto the piston and gudgeon area. That was I think what made it seize up on me.(Monumental beginners stuffup) It was explained to me by an engine machinist that many engines rely on bearings which have a groove along othem to supply il to other parts of the engine. Makes me think that they may have inverted a pair of main bearing shells or possibly used a shell meant to be fitted in another journal. Below is a good picture of what I mean. Even though some of the holes may be in the same place you can see there is one with 2 holes for lubrication to get to something else in the engine. I hope all goes well with getting something done about this. Regards Mark
  19. CAN YOU GET ME THE PART NUMBERS OFF THE UNIT? i WILL HAVE A LOOK FOR IT AND GET BACK TO YOU
  20. Your right foot Sorry man. I can't give a mechanical answer but it sounds a bit terminal for the box to me
  21. Not sure who this is but have seen him in Sunnybank heading toward Archerfield around 7:30 some mornings. Anyone gonna fess up? Or dob him in. Sounds really sweet too. Could do with a coat of paint though.
  22. The second from the bottom gets my vote. Those deep set wheels do it for me. Spillige ...take note! lol
  23. Hey thanks guys. The wheel thing is definately one for personal taste. I have had some very negative feedback from mates who have seen them first hand but I cant wait for the project to be done. The Celica goes in fairly soon for the panel & paint job. There will be a long road ahead but I have authorisation from the minister for war and finance to get it on the road. I plan to do it in a mid-dark metallic blue somewhat like the 2011 Corolla. Attached is a pic of a TA22 with the same wheels which is painted in a blue a shade lighter than I am looking for.. I think it looks pretty spectacular... The poor thing has been stuck at the side of my house waiting till we sell our HQ tonner. I have a guy I used to work with who wants it but he needs to sell one of his too. And so the story goes. This pic is TRUE eye Candy
  24. Just been looking at the spillage gem. That looks a treat eh
  25. Sad thing getting a defect notice. I must say though I am impressed with the mods you have done. Brother in law had a Capella with a 12A bridged and the video sound track took me back 20 years. I feel 30 all over again. Nothing sounds or goes quite like a rotary. Gotta love that sleeper look as well. And those wheel covers...ooooooh yeah Keep up the awesome work.
