  1. Most Luxurious:- 1982 Daimler Double six Vanden Plas 5.3 litre V12. (One of the perks of working for a car dealer in 1983) Unfortunately it was a mustard colour and was not very fast. Most Fastest:- HQ GTS 350 Manual in 1980. From the Tacho reading we calculated that I got to just under 170 mph. That even scares me now thinking about it. 18 years old...Stupid. Most Funnest:- Mazda RX2 with 12A Bridge ported. Yes that was memorable. You all should try it sometime.
  2. Thats what i thought too, but was at the dealer for something else and they assured me that the alternator is working fine. Hey Scoota44 I work for an importer/wholesaler and we pride ourselves on being the people auto electricians ask about things like this. If you can get me the chassis number from the car I should be able to get the correct info for you. (Through a mate at a Toyota dealer) Yes there are some late model vehicles in which the alternator is controlled by the E.C.U. or system computer or body control module. If the alternator is a Denso unit there is a possibility that it is only designed to display the charge at low - mid 13's and will not show anything else until it is on the road. In this case the alternator sends a signal to the computer to let it know that all is normal or otherwise. Depending on the power demand at any given time the computer decides how much work the alternator needs to do. This is(according to the EPA)to save the engine driving the alternator unnecessarily thereby saving horsepower - saving fuel - reducing emissions - and saving the planet. yup If the alternator is a Bosch unit it is usual that it should charge at 14.6v which is what most of the late series Bosch alternators are set to. This can also apply to some Denso alternators. Please remember that even though both these units have the same mounting points and the 4 pin plug may well be connected it can take as little as 4-5 seconds to either burn out the(wrong)alternator or in some cases there could be internal damage done to the E.C.U. Many of them have the pin configuration printed on the label. Make sure that if you change the alternator that the wiring diagram on the label is identical. Some units can look identical but this can lead to disaster. Keep us posted on the results of your problems if there are any.
  3. Hey welcome to the club. I always wanted to at least visit Canada one day. My cousin married a Canadian guy and now lives there permanently. She and her husband have a Picture Postcard view of a lake with snow-capped mountains behind from their verandah. Sometime though... Hey you gotta have a dream
  4. No no no to the blue ring. Toooooooo tacky. All black or maybe chrome trim. Too tacky? Why's that? lol Guess I'll see how they look up against the car when I do go shoe huntin. Probably will stick with the black with chrome lip though. Or might look at how gunmetal looks on the car. Hey Huey Nothing tacky about that. Excellent choice of wheels. Zorst note sounds great too.
  5. I agree. No respect. Plain stupidity.
  6. Count me in. I would prefer somewhere on the southside but the regular Pool meeting place would be fine.
  7. Hey yeah - Welcome to the club. All I got as a first car was a Crusty looking Renault that was meant to go to the wrecking yard. That should look good with some wheels on. B)

  11. I found the screaminrolla RA28 and it looks awesome. I hope to have the bodywork looking as good as his but I will be keeping the 18RG because it's the one Mitch really wanted to have. About a month ago I made some time to get in and make a start on the much dreaded restoration of the Celica. I started to remove, label and pack up the parts form under the hood. Before I started I took a few pics so that I know where to refit all the bits when it comes back from the panel shop. The dust and cobwebs are a testament to the length of time she has sat idle and untouched. I got in yesterday and spent a few hours emptying the passenger and luggage compartments of the parts that had already been removed. Last weekend was a no go zone for the garage but today I got in and stripped out a heap of stuff, bagged and labelled the bits with the mounting bolts and managed to find a hiding place for them from the dog. Attached are a few pics of the slow but steady progress. I must say I am satisfied with the progress thus far. Save for a few interruptions it should be off to the shop in about a month. I think I will take a week off work before then to really give it a red hot go. Will keep you all posted on the progress.
  12. This thread is a typical example of the help that anyone, including newbies can receive from the more experienced guys on the forum. 'the-converter' and many more of the guys seem to be more than willing to pull bits off their cars just to take pictures so that people can see where and what can be done to repair and modify their vehicles. Although this particular thread is a simple cover removal, the effort to get up - find a camera or phone take the pictures, upload them and explain the procedure is nothing short of fantastic. Here's to the unsung heroes of the forum for going above and beyond the call of duty in achieving such a great result like this one.
  13. Truly jealous. I would love to get behind the wheel of that. How much did it cost to do . I had never heard of Morgan Park until now. Looks like a really interesting track too.
  14. Welcome to the club. I feel sure you will enjoy what is on offer by way of tech tips and general car info.
  15. Generally the pinion on a starter is much harder than the ring gear. Thus it is more usual to have a damaged ring gear than a damaged starter pinion. Once the starter is out you will need to inspect the full circle of the ring gear. A 4 cylinder motor usually stops in one of two possible positions. A 6 cylinder will stop at 1 of 3 spots so you will need to turn the motor over to check the full face of it. The picture gives a really good example of both a new and a stuffed ring gear set. I hope this is useful. P.S. They don't all need to look as bad as this to to have a meshing issue
  16. It gets really annoying when I misplace my wallet or glasses and my wife or son ask...'Where did you have it last?' Uhhh - Let me think. If I knew that I would be on my way there to get them.
  17. Welcome to the club. Hope the stivo is all OK as far as the ding you found. It's difficult to find out these things until you get it home and have a really close look. I am sure that it won't be a problem though. I trust that you enjoy the club and the tech and mod info here.
  18. As far as I know there has to ba a number of issues which are unable to be resolved before there would be any chance of applying the 'Lemon' replacement rule. I would definitely keep a record of ongoing problems in a log book if they continue to come up. I feel sorry for you having problems so early in the ownership of your new car but generally dealers do their best to keep ther customers happy so that they come back to buy their next car. I would tend more toward giving them the benefit of the doubt. Hope this can be resolved to your satisfaction
  19. Well I think you are funny too. We all gotta have a cheap giggle sometimes
  20. Unless you already have a 253 in your shed it would make more sense to me to use a 1UZ or 2UZ from a Lexus or Soarer
  21. A warm and friendly welcome to the club. I think a warm welcome is needed especially for you in the ACT. Enjoy the Rolla
  22. Absolutely agreed I don't think the stripes look that good on a Ford anyway
