To oil or not to oil - K&N POD Filter
Suprathai replied to VVTLiR's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
The oil will not stop the water at all, the oil is used to trap finer particles that the filter element itself is incapable of doing. Cheers -
If only someone came out with that earlier, I got my Fascia (The adaptor) it was back in 2004. It wasn't a perfect fit, I had to use a file to get it to fit properly. I got mine for $40 at a car audio store nearby. Cheers

I grabbed this photo of the gallery, my apologies for not asking first to the owner of this photo. This is the 2zzge, but should be in a similiar place for the 1zz as well, Cheers

To oil or not to oil - K&N POD Filter
Suprathai replied to VVTLiR's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
Eventually it will build up on the MAF sensor, but lightly oiling it is the key to keeping your MAF sensor relatively clean. I change my filter every 10k. Its all personal preference, but i would definitely clean it after clocking up 20000km. Cheers P.S. Do a google, plently of people write up on how to oil K&N filters. -
You free for the up coming meet? I'm sure someone there would be glad to help. I'm a bit busy at the moment as the date is drawing near... :( Cheers
-
Dunno if its high powered or not, they use some sort of ultrasonic (vibration) device to clean it...not sure on the pricing, never done it before. Well my car use to idle around 800rpm its currently at around 600rpm after cleaning the MAF sensor, if you use an oil based filter (K&N) then I suggest cleaning it each time you clean your filter. You will save some fuel, not that much but throttle response is much better and your car feels smoother. I started a topic about cleaning MAF sensors last time Cheers
-
Sounds exactly like my car... Auto conquest currently at 76K...396km when the light comes on///"( Maybe its too early, my mechanic suggested getting the injectors cleaned properly....not those bottles that you put into the tank before you fill up :D Cheers
-
I'm weird then, I like modifying but I'm pretty concerned when it comes to noise...when I had my CAI it was soo noisy, I drove it so that I rarely let it past 3000rpm...lol

I had some crazy theory going on. Something like this... True the longer the pipe the more 'lag' that will be present (assuming that its a perfectly sealed system). But I was thinking along the lines of maybe momentum of the air flow (but then again air is not exactly heavy. unless you compress it...but thats different), so maybe it counts for nothing. What about the resonance of the air??. So there are no draw backs to the SRI if it receives an adequate enough air supply?? Cheers
-
Which is better? Now before you answer SRI will be boxed with a cold air feed coming from the front of the car. Cold air feed will have a slightly larger diameter then the SRI tube CAI is CAI From my research there are mixed reports some saying CAI is still better, SRI has better throttle response. Anyone care to explain in a bit more detail?? Does the length of the pipe make a difference?? Momentum?? Reynolds #, Laminar or Turbulant?? Engineers its time to strut your stuff. Cheers P.S. If I'm wrong, please kill me

WTF? Don't worry I've gotten past the whole Honda bashing thing... By any chance is that the H22A?? Cheers
-
Quite unfortunate I guess mate. My whole family has always been with Toyota and recently Honda...we tried, Mitsu, Ford, Nissan, Holden and they gave us way too much trouble. I'm getting rid of my rolla, and tossing between a sportivo or the older Audi A3 1.8T. Cheers P.S. Soaring petrol prices hurt me cause I initially wanted a supra

Well now we know the WD-40 is a no goer :D Cheers

Keep us updated on the situation, I'm curious as to how it all unfolds. Cheers -
420km just as the light comes on...Not really city driving as well...mixed city/highway 20km difference whether i drive it hard or slow...my mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. Getting approx 11L/100km Automatic Corolla with no mods, done about 76000Km. With CAI...320km.... I'm getting rid of it after i fix it up Cheers
-
I know that this is nothing new, but this forum is pretty much focused on the newer zze12# corollas. But I'm sure someone here will have somw knowledge to share on the old school rollas. Alternatively give Toymods a try, the members there know quite a fair bit on old school Toyotas. Cheers

Interesting isn't it...I believe its always a communication problem...and people that can't make proper decisions on the road should maybe make an effort to improve their skills. But with learner's, patience is the key...and you need a hell of a lot of it. Also everytime I leave for work I end up seeing this lady (mid 40's), tailgating everyone and speeding obviously.....its scary I tell you, I was tempted to slam on my brakes so she could give my car a new paint job....but of course I didn't....patience is the key my friend. For some reason, some people are bloody having a go at me (maybe I'm driving too slow :D). I can see them giving me the finger and all, cursing through my rear view mirror....and when they get side by side...they don't do anything....hehehe....I'm not exactly your average asian guy, 1.76m and yes I'm over 100kg...I don't look it though. Cheers

Too much cold air is it possible???
Suprathai replied to GAZOOM's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
What is the ID of the piping that you are using? You need it just right, too small = restriction and i think too big = improper a/f ratio I am by no means correct, but hopefully I'm not too wrong. Also when i installed my CAI (shift performance), I lost approximately 120km/tank.... I mean maybe its my driving because of all the excitment, but its been a consistent 320km/tank for a month. Put my stock air box back in at the moment, cause i need the car repaired under insurance. Cheers -
You used WD-40 to clean your MAF sensor?? Well obviously its working fine for your car then, cause some people advise against using WD-40 as it possibly leaves behind a thin film of lubricant. Probably won't make much of a difference, but if your really worried then try electical contact cleaner that leaves no residue whatsoever behind. The thing i hate about the internet is the amount of information that is available, need to read heaps before you know what is junk. I'm not saying that you are wrong or anything, so please don't get offended. To date i think the people on TOCAU really know their stuff B) . Cheers

Thats great, I'll be sitting tight then. I have alot of things that needs to done to the car. EBC Brake Pads, Strut Brace, eye lids and grille, need to get the car fixed under insurance.......CAUSE I'M PRETTY SURE SOMEONE STOMPED ON MY BONNET AND ROOF!! $500 excess and no one to blame!!!!! ARGH!! I wish plenty of karma on the people(s) that caused this!!
-
I have heard of people having to do some minor modifications to get the strut bar to clear anything in the engine bay, does the whiteline apply in this case? Cheers
-
Its great to see that people have responded to this post and shared their experiences. I too went investigating into my cars stationary habits (it vibrates too much i think), i don't think my mechanic looked into it last time <_< I was actually starting to get a bit worried cause no one replied, lol, thinking i'm a noob and all. Cheers
-
I'm guessing that you haven't installed a CAI before then. To answer your questions. MAF = Mass Air Flow (I hope i'm right). Its a sensor that is used to measure the amount of air that is flowing through the airbox going into the engine. By measuring the amount of air going in, it can correctly inject the correct amount of fuel based on its fuel map. Now obviously if the sensor is dirty then it will not allow for the optimum fule mixture (as if the factory map is optimum anyway), in more worst cases you will get a CEL (Check Engine Light, which means you can't rev past 3Krpm ). I remember finding a DIY for the corolla on the net somewhere, can't find it anymore :( Maybe I will make a DIY and post it in the workshop submissions area. Cheers

I'm interested with the grilles too!! Hey OH8ABY would you be able to include grilles with this group buy as well, maybe they will give us a discount if we buy other products too? Thats if they stock it as well Cheers

Well i don't think its ever been cleaned before, already travelled 78Ks. I could physically see some particles on the IAT diode (i think thats what its called), didn't look at the wires itself, but if that is any indication it is pretty filthy. Cheers
