  1. That's it!! So long as you keep using the same dyno you will be able to see your gains/losses on each mod you do. Going to the same dyno is the best constant variable you can have :D
  2. Northy's was simply a rod let go. The big end was still on the crank and spins around on the journal ruling out the possibility of a bearing picking up which also rules out the oil pump theory. The rod simply broke half way up the beam which tells me that the rods can't handle high rpm consisently. Downside of Northy's misery is that we now have a spare head, cams etc to play with and also have a good look inside a 2ZZ just to see he she all works...... And how we can do some more mods :D
  3. I think its just probably tuned slightly different. Look at the spec for the mr2 and the corolla..100kw for corolla and 103kw for the mr2.....same engine.....slightly different tuning.... The difference in power is most likely to be the exhaust system. MR2 system is quite a lot shorter. :D
  4. The stock cat flows ample for the stivo and gains out of a high flow compared to the $$$ isn't really worth it. Why do you want to remove the cat??It's illegal in most countries??? Have you had the rest of the system changed??? There are gains to made in exhaust systems and you can do it legally.
  5. Before all the newbies and the uninformed start to drool over these figures remember that this is a hub style dyno and read TOTALLY different to a Dyno Dynamics dyno which is the most common style of dyno. Figures are way higher than the figures you'll get on a Dyno Dynamics dyno.
  6. anything under $500 is going to only give you a minimal amount of trouble free usage. Yeah it was a local team competing in PRC1. We were running a 1976 Honda Civic up against later model cars with big sponsors and beating them lol.Mind you we rebuild the Civic and had only a handfull of change out of $30 000. Love that Proflex suspension!!!!$6k for 4 coilovers. Now that's expensive but unbreakable.
  7. For those of you going with Injen and Aem for your Sportivo your not getting the gains of TRD for a start. CES makes about 4kw more than TRD. Injen and Aem are 2.5 " if I'm correct and while CES were doing some testing they made a 2.5" CAI and did back to back runs on my car.It was the same up until about 5200rpm when the power droped off by some 5 odd kw then lift kicks in and they match the same power roughly but by the time you get to 7000rpm the power begins to drop off right up until redline when it drops by nearly 10kw. Hence 2.5" is too small for the Stivo. Sure you will make gains over the stock airbox but not as much as you will with the larger diameter pipe. My car gained about 5 odd kw with TRD CAI and ITG filter. With CES intake(using the same filter) I picked up an additional 4 odd kw. Bottom end is pretty much the same but from about 4000rpm onwards the car feels stronger and by the time you hit lift it really screams to the point of making 4kw more peak power.(2.5" CAI was tested with the same ITG filter) CES have put a bit more of a kick on the end of the CAI to give more clearance for the foggy and with the K&N filter that's an option it clears the foggy on a prefacelift by a good 1-2" from memory. Northy has the first one on his car ATM and is happy with the result. Looks the goods and sounds great too. As soon as Northy has piccies I'll get him to post them up for all to see.
  8. I suggest just sticking with a Bucket & Water. High pressure water can actually damage your paint & really aren't very effective are removing small particles of dirt. They are great for off road vehicles that get caked in mud. I would also recommend a Meguairs Lambs Wool cleaning mit instead of a sponge. If you really want to look after the paint work I would have one mit for the top half of the car & another for the bootom half of the car & perhaps a sponge just for the wheels. For anyone that wants to connect a high pressure cleaner to a tank of water you will need to purchase a small pump to connect between the tank & the cleaner to create enough pressure for the cleaner to work properly. If you don't do this the Cleaner will cavitate & over heat as there won't be enough water going into it. I'd have to disagree with you on using a high pressure cleaner on cars. Being a car detailer for more than 10 years they are prolly the best way to reduce scratching your car as they remove the majority of grit and grime before you have to put a sponge to the paintwork. Most of the cheaper machines don't have enough pressure to do any damage and pressure up to @1500psi is safe to use. Any thing over this can and will do damage if used incorrectly. Depending on the machine they may run off a non tap supply but gravity feed to the machine is the key. I used to sponsor a rally car and at every service point we would once the service was completed pressure wash the car down and chamois off ready for the next stage. I would have a 25lt plastic drum with water in it with a click on hose fitting in where you would put a tap and place the drum on the top of the roof rack of the service truck. I would then let the water flow down to the machine and open the trigger and wait until all the air had bled out. Then I turn the machine on clean the car. 25lt of water lasted for just on 4 mins holding the trigger open for that time. Different machines have different flow rates so check that first. It can be done but you just have to do it the right way. :D As I am a business I can pretty much wash my car whenever it's needed. If someone stops and asks I tell them it's a company car(which it is) and needs to stay clean... True story about the rally car washing story. We were the first to do it and got laughed at as a rally car was supposed to be "dirty". But how do the sponsors get seen on the car if it's dirty??? Well at the major service break on the rally Qld the crew chief from Possum Bourne's team came over to me as I was on my way to get food and asked about the car washing thing. Told him how we did it and he thought it was great and a damm side easier than using a bucket and sponge. When we did the rally the following year Possum's crew had a pressure cleaner set up so did Neal Bates' crew as well as some of the bigger privateer teams. I got a letter from CAMS congratulating the car that I was involved with for our professional attitude for a small privateer team and for our results rally wise and the amount of comments they got about the immaculate presentation of the Civic I sponsored. Necessity is the mother of invention....... :D
  9. None that I know of here but maybe try Mrgen3 as he's a commodore owner and may have some contacts for that sort of stuff :D ;)
  10. CES now have a CAI for the Sportivo with 2 different options. $399 for CAI with pod filter(copy of K&N) of with a K&N for $447. Dyno proven gains over TRD CAI of approx 4kw. Intake pipe is also HPC coated to keep heat out and finished in a nice silver. Comes with all clamps, nuts, bolts and brackets to install. Contact CES racing on 07 3200 2333 for more info. They are currently taking orders at this point in time with a few Brissy boys already signed up to get em. :D Police can't hassle you as the filter isn't in the engine bay and is not visible at all.
  11. Is it true that the 10min fix consisted of 5 secs of WD-40 and 9 min 55 sec of Northy getting the torch right? it's been a while but something like that
  12. Should be able to run it off your hose as you'll actually use less water than what you would using the hose to wash your car. Look for one with brass fittings and stainless steel pipes etc. The steel made pumps corrode quickly and will stuff up in a matter of months.
  13. If anyone is thinking of making moulds then please think of copyright laws and the fines handed out for breaching them.... if you get caught or dobbed in.
  14. The squeek in the clutch pedal is actually the clutch fork/throwout bearing arm. It's a dry pivot point where the spring attaches/arms pivots. I fixed mine with a little bit of WD40 and Northy holding a torch in the right position. Couldn't be bothered getting Toyota to fix as I didn't have the time or patience to wait for hours for a simple 10 min fix.
  15. And what was wrong with the donor car???? :o
  16. 5% isn't much?????? If I do my sums as well as most then 5% is @$50. To me $50 in my pocket is better than $50 in someone elses.....
  17. It doesn't yield huge gains in power but does make a difference to throttle response and the engine is a little more willing to rev. Obviously due to there being less restriction.
  18. For those of you who have waited patiently thank you and for those who have whinged well maybe next time you try and organise some kind of group buy this big..... All should be delivered Monday/Tuesday next week as it was freighted from Brisbane yesterday.
  19. D2's are ok and are prolly my pick of the 2 mentioned. But if you can afford it then Cusco's are the ducks nuts out of all the coilover's I've seen and are the easiest coilovers I've had to fit yet :D
  20. Azza you won't fit in the seat of a Focus XR5. I only just fit albeit a ilttle uncomfortable and Northy misses out by a good couple of inches. If Hyundai bring out the Accent that they had at the Brissy motorshow then I will certainly be swaying their way. One hell of a good looking car and in my opinion better than the Focus. ;) Corzza.... RS6.... now we're talking about a real drivers car. :D
  21. I got 15. The snake bite questions were the ones that got me. Damm snakes!!
  22. Rim spacers are illegal. :(
