  1. I'm guessing TMCA are requesting the dealer to pull it down and see what has caused the problem, then they'll make a decision on what they might pay for in an out of warranty situation. Maba, give TMCA customer assistance centre a call to help escalate the issue - 1800 252 097 Mon-Fri. Tell them you're considering buying a new Toyota in a couple of years, but this current issue has put a sour taste in your mouth. They will generally go out of their way to try and keep you happy.
  2. Do you have an owl under the bonnet? Record it and upload it somewhere so we can have a listen.
  3. Yes, you can do this. It'll just plug straight in.
  4. As Rollavan said, the mode switch not working is a joke (nice one Toyota) and they are extremely ugly!!! They're a bit of a sh!t of a thing to operate too (big control knob is a bugger). Plus you risk the chance of retards smashing your window and removing the TomTom unit. I'd suggest going down the aftermarket path - there's some nice units out there that will have plenty of functionality along with the ability to be controlled by the steering wheel buttons, and satnav of course. The Eclipse AVN6000 is a nice unit - it's similar to the ridiculously overpriced Toyota full screen satnav unit that's optional in the KX-S. Both Eclipse and Toyota units are made by Fujitsu Ten, but the Eclipse is a MUCH better unit than the Toyota one and cheaper. On top of that, it will plug straight in and you'll be able to utilise the steering wheel controls as well.
  5. You'll be tearing more than your hair out... ...sigh... another worthless grey import Surf victim...
  6. Ummmm... why don't you just buy genuine accessories and save yourself the hassle of tracking down aftermarket sh!t, plus the genuine accessories fall into your new car warranty. Hell, if you can afford to buy a new Prado, surely you can afford the genuine accessories?!?
  7. Maybe they've made them impossible to get at to stop ricers fitting w@nker blue LEDs in place of normal park lamp globes. Not that I'm assuming the OP is about to do that...
  8. LOL... I think you RLY need to do some studying - read your warranty/service book, it will explain when items need replacing at what intervals.
  9. Sigh... have you spoken to a Toyota dealer or TMCA about this at all yet? Or are you relying on a backyard mechanic to tell you what the right thing is to do. You're not up for a new gearbox, it will need a very minor overhaul to replace a failed part(s). Obviously there is a problem with either a linkage or a synchro ring. Have you owned it from new, and have you had the vehicle serviced regulary? If yes, take it to a Toyota dealer, ask for them to take a look at it. They will have to remove the gearbox, disassemble and inspect it. After the dealer has worked out the problem, the next step will be for them to contact Toyota Australia on your behalf and request an out of warranty consideration. Toyota might pay for the whole thing to be fixed, or maybe they'll just pay for the parts only or a portion of the parts. btw, you say you had problems selecting reverse as well? It's always a good idea in a manual vehicle to select first (when it was available) before selecting reverse to allow the synchros to line up/slide smoothly...
  10. Hmmmm... the 3.4 V6s are pretty bullet proof, I find it extremely unusual that a "leg has popped out of bed" at 58K. The only issue these engines ever had was corrosion problems within the cooling system. Something's not right here - that you had the "oil over the driveway after service" incident at 54K and now this, with the dealer not providing any info re: loss of oil. I would take the matter up with either the general manager or dealer principal if the service department is not going to provide the report. Here's a possible scenario btw - usually a conrod will break away with the gudgeon pin taking a bit of the bottom of the piston with it as a result of the engine being revved the ring out of/constantly flogged at wide open throttle. Not saying all mechanics/apprentices out there do this type of thing, but in the many different dealerships I've worked at over the years, I have seen one or two bad eggs who don't give a flying sh!t about other ppl's property. Maybe this could be the case, combined with the loss or low level of oil prior to the vehicle being given back to you afterwards... maybe it's just simply a defect in the piston and has taken all this time to show up. Make sure the dealer gets TMCA involved in this - you need to request an out-of-warranty consideration via the dealer. The kms are with you, the age is against you. If the dealer doesn't do anything, ring TMCA's customer assistance centre and ask for help. Good luck!
  11. As Roy says in the IT Crowd, "Have you tried switching it off and back on?" (the phone that is) :D
  12. What were the symptoms? Can you be more specific, when you say "blown up", what has actually happened to the engine? Has it spun a bearing, has a piston cracked, has it lost compression in one of the cylinders? Have they done compression tests? Have they removed the head and/or removed the engine, disassembled and inspected? Is there a possibility that the dealer has filled the engine with the wrong grade of oil, before or after the incident on the driveway? Could it be a faulty oil filter (which of course Toyota parts warranty covers engine repairs in that case)? Obviously your engine hadn't run out of oil completely and caused damage initially after the 54K service, considering there was oil all over your driveway. 58K isn't a huge amount of wear. Something sounds really suss with this dealer - they could be out to make a dodgy buck without ascertaining what is exactly wrong with the engine. Very rarely, a part that is faulty from day one (ie from the factory) might take a while to start causing problems, and that could be your scenario here. What's the engine btw, a 2.7, or the V6, or diesel?
  13. Agreed. The OP is stepping back from a blown VT (about 175kW by memory). Both the Corolla and Camry are gutless, until Toyota wake up and bring out a TRD Corolla. R32 is too much $$$, GTI or MPS highly recommended, and only a little bit of a step up from the Corolla or Camry price area.
  14. No you cannot download a manual for your vehicle, they are based on TMCA's intranet only. No, there are no sensors for the SRS system in the rear bar area, only the front. Really, if you have no idea what you're doing, take it somewhere to someone who does.
  15. Just be careful, Toyota parts departments ain't that bright. The price they have quoted you for is for a standard master key (i.e. AT-X, Prodigy etc. without Smart Entry). The thin key that slides into the Smart Entry fob actually prices up over $200!!! Double-check with your parts guys, and ask to have a look at the Microcat pictures to confirm they are bringing up the correct part/number. Probably something the techs at Toyota would have to do i reckon... It is not possible to program the body module to lock the vehicle as you walk away. You need to either press the lock button on the smart key remote, or press the black button on the door handle.
  16. I'm guessing you had a MKVI then? I certainly can't see a MKV being less fun than a Forester... that's if they're stock.
  17. Fair enough... I bet he's missing it! The reason I say glorified - things like poverty pack A/C controls, same dash, etc. Anyway, the way I see it, Toyota should've based the 3500S and 3500SL on the ZR6 and Presara respectively.
  18. Depends on what sort of VW you're talking about... the Passat R36 is a far superior vehicle over the TRD Aurion. Even with the (TMCA getting desperate) price reduction, I'd still be happy to spend an extra 15K to get into an R36 over the (glorified SX6) 3500S. No driveaway deals on ZR6, but dealers are being offered incentives to move 'em...

    Key Sets

Another dealer that lies through its teeth. Once again, 2x master keys (each with remote fobs) and a valet key should've been provided to you. Go back and DEMAND a second key and remote! Spare parts have no use for it btw, as it will already be cut and will only suit your vehicle. And they're not expensive, master keys are about $60-$70 a pop.
  20. Oh come on... your Corolla has a 3 year warranty, obviously there is a manufacturer's defect if the outside temperature readout is not working, so take it to your nearest Toyota dealer's service department to get it repaired under warranty. If only there was a "bang a head against a brick wall" icon available.
  21. Hey Saj, just be careful posting stuff from APIs or TAMS, as sometimes the info can be embargoed and you'll be up sh!t creek with TMCA if you're releasing info to the public. To the ppl here who think a 1.8 Yaris is coming out in a couple of months, think again. It's NOT happening.
  22. No and no. Just put your seatbelt on behind the seat, or plug in the passenger one to shut it up.
  23. Stability will be available December production onwards. 6 speed gearbox will have revised ratios with the production change as well.
  24. I wouldn't even think about it... the 1VD-FTV engine alone is an extremely expensive piece of gear. If anything craps itself, Toyota won't honour any warranty claims relating to the engine/transmission/driveline.
