What is the rim size on the Tarago?
  3. Bonnet scoop is different for one.
  4. It's not really worth putting a pod filter on 95% of vehicles.
  5. There is not really any huge issues with any model.
  6. It would be hypocritical of me to tell anyone to not bother putting money into a car they love.
  7. You will need to access the pinch clips or screws from behind. Usually you can achieve this by removing nearby trim pieces, generally from below.
  8. Reconditioned unless you want to throw money at it. Second hand is too much of an unknown and you will get very little to no warranty.
  9. Welcome. Is the first item on the checklist "throw checklist away"?
  10. As an addition to this, it appears that Terry is back doing some work again. I believe this may be from his home though.
  11. Toyota were charging around $100 per bearing for the differential, input shaft and output shaft(6 total) and around $50 per bearing for each floating gear(5 total) when I was looking. I ended up buying from Amayama, far cheaper.
  12. There are special tools for it that are available rather cheap, alternatively you could get a windscreen place to remove it safely.
  13. Not sure if you are referring to the synchro/bearings parts cost only or for the whole job. For the whole job, gearbox out, transmission teardown, gear set teardown, you will be into the thousands easily. I doubt you will even get the synchros and bearings for that price.
  14. If it is not adjusting, even with the rotor off, spray a little INOX or similar into the threaded end ensuring that you don't contaminate the shoes at all. Make sure that you back off the tension at the pedal end before making the rear adjustments.
  15. Did you get any photos with the rotors off? I was pretty sure that they were a star wheel adjuster, but I can't remember now. I will have a look at my workshop manual a bit later.
  16. Welcome. Another helpful site is http://www.ozcelica.com Their new member approvals are set to manual, so they are quite slow.
  17. Manual is M12 x 1.25 from memory.
  18. This is not isolated to the Hilux or Toyota. The main advantage to this method is that there is no risk of spitting shims out, especially if it is a high lift camshaft application. It also reduces valvetrain weight.
  19. As I said before, there are many galleries. May not be an exact image of your valvebody.
  20. Given that it is working when the oil is hot, I would say your mechanic is on the right path regarding the viscosity. What was the oil that you drained like? Sludgy at all? There are a lot of small galleries in the valve body and if they are blocked in any way, the oil may not be able to to flow through these until the oil thins as it gets hotter.
  21. We get this from ours, but I haven't cared enough to chase it as we do get a slight intermediate shaft knock as well.
