  1. It was time to see what a CAI can do in terms of performance and to see how the 03 vs the 05 model corolla sportivo shapes up. My GF driving my old car 03 with a TRD CAI on one lane, myself in my 05 model in the other. To make it as fair as possible, we do a rolling start from about 60kph in 2nd..............both plant it, hit lift.....boy does the CAI sound cool :).. all the way to the top of 3rd.... Now i had a bad batch of Friggin optimax......for me never again, my ***** has more octane in it...so my car was feeling down on power since that fuel load, havent had a chance to top it up....So you guys are asking how it all went? You would think with a CAI she would pull away rite?? well it was dead even, we both stayed in lift 2-3rd change...........and it was dead even all the way....we tried it twice to make sure, with the same result..... which makes me think how much doeas a CAI really give you apart from noise??? Or is the 05 model that much quicker?...I will follow up on this when i get a CAI installed in mine to see the results.
  2. INJEN :) ..........the yank way of saying Indian :D
  3. Its probably better then both, i will tell you after i get it and install it. Ive had TRD before, ive driven AEM powered sportivo, the difference, TRD is noisier and more violent in lift. The injen from my research beats them both, thats why in the US its the most used CAI unit.
  4. If you get it from Bruce, you havent researched your product. I am getting an Injen unit for $325AU to my doorstep. The CAI is $215US, the delivery is $25US and insurance is $5US. Thats $245US which works out to be $325AU. If anyone is interested check out I.N.D. KonCept at Ebay in US tell him i sent ya :P he'll look after you. Spending $500 for a CAI is insane, i once brought a TRD CAI for around that , never again.
  5. Yeah...i agree Azza, this topic is kinds poofy...wtf is wrong with you guys....im 28 in August :P
  6. Well you would know cos you helped me install mine remember? That's Paul giving me a hand as well while Lucian was stripping the wheel guard. All this on busy Swanston Street. :P ← HAHAHAHA Funny pic that one...........i gave birth to the pipe that night
  7. The hardest part of installing the AEM unit was to get the rubber hose on the throttle body. You have to stretch the hose a little before putting it on, have to play with it a bit, like a tight pussy :D. The TRD unit on the other hand fits easier, but both easy. Cant wait for the injen, its a two piece. If the dude on ebay is still stuffing me around i'll go for an AEM.
  8. Thats too much for an aem. they go for $180 Us plus delivery another $50. adds up around $330 Oz. Im getting an Injen one for $335 delivered.
  9. Im not sure Zee, but one thing is for sure, their design makes the noise difference, like a trumpet. The TRD one i think is restrictive at the end, where the K&N one is not soo bad.
  10. WOW :o :D , we need more fullstops and commas on the next one.
  11. I had the smaller one in the previous rolla, it really doesent make a difference, the TRD filter was much louder. I might get an Injen cai, dont know if anyone here has it, but most of the guys in the states seem to go for the injen. Its cheaper than TRD by a little.
  12. What about installation costs????Not worth it in the end, unless you got money to throw.
  13. It can get icy there this time of year, its in the Yarra Ranges, just after Healesville.
  14. Well everyone has gone for the full CAI setup, and i thought why not. I will base it on the K&N Typhoon and is should give 15 BHP extra and 10 Nm of torque according to the K & N website. Easy to install, easy to remove, the only issue is with water, but i think its pretty safe. As for the air temp under the bonett, just have to wait and see. Ill post pics when i have time and when its complete.
  15. Last nite, i took the air box and battery out, getting ready to measure out and fit a cold air intake prototype. I have 3 inch stainless steel pipes, probably the most ideal metal since it doesent attract heat, quite heat resistant. Having created a concept, it was looking good ready to be welded into one pipe, when i remembered the car wont run without a battery ;) . So after popping the battery back in, you guessed it, it didnt fit anymore. To have the pod sitting as per other cold air intakes, you have to have the pipe along the left side of the car and around the battery, etc etc etc.....too much mucking around. I have dished that project and will try and make a simpler short ram intake. I dont think anyone on here has one so i want to try and and see how they work. Im going to use the air box from the old car and get the pod to sit inside, then try and make a funnel from the air box to sit underneath the headlights so that cold air gets sucked up.
  16. Its a good balance because most of the weight is on the front, and the koni being a hard shock absorber the softest setting is still good enough to keep the fron firm without being too bumpy. Since you have eibach springs which are harder than stock springs, you shouldnt really have to replace the stock shockers as the harder spring only lowers the car enough, where the stock shocks wont reach the bump stops, but if you want an all out performance setup for street then go for the koni's you wont regret it.
  17. The Koni's and your TTE springs which i think are eibach would be the best combo you could go for in terms of springs and shockers and the most costly i think. The shocks are suitable for 30 to 40 even up to 50 mm, anything more and you would be hitting the bump stops. They are adjustable however only the fronts can be done with ease, the bask have to be removed then adjusted, the fronts have a ket so you just pop the bonnet. The backs are set mid way in terms of dampness, and because the koni is a fairy hard shocker, the fronts are set on the softerst setting. The ride is unreal even with the stock tyres, its a good combo if youre just after a 40mm drop. If you think of going more dont waste your money get coilovers. They dont need work, are designed to replace stock parts, the only work is done in installation where the McPherson front struts have to be cut and drilled to fit the Koni's in so i would not install it myself. I havent played with the settings but i intend to keep it on the softest when driving daily, and maybe turn it up a notch on a cruise with the guys.
  18. Yeah the 123R is great :) if youre in Melbourne go to Le Mans Toyota they have a white one you might be able to take for a test drive. Cheers
