im kinda sick of looking at all the plastic on the 1zz engine...

so i took off the plastic top that sits over the engine..

but im also wanting to get rid of the 4 plastic pipes that go down the front of it.

editengine.jpg

anyone know how to remove it???

is it recommended that i keep it on?

That's your intake plenum.

You can't remove those.

IZZ-FE is spot on, thats how the air gets from the end of your CAI/air intake into your engine.

You will have noticed from the meets the 2zz's differ in this regard because their intake runners are larger and made from an alloy rather than the plastic we get on the 1zz's.

...and these plastic runners were actually mentioned in the tech article to further reduce overall weight and manufacturing costs!

ohhhkay...

well that sucks 4ss.

yea the sportivos dont have the same plastic so i was guessing we had some metal pipes under the plastic.

good on the other hand that it actually has a function (unlike that engine cover.. just for looks?).. and reduces weight..

if i cant drive without it, then at least i should be able to take it off to paint it!?? :/

The only 1ZZ-FE engine I've seen without the plastic inlet plenum was in a damaged vehicle auction...

Really F****D up!

Head over to 9th gen corolla, and look up DIY painting intake manifold or something like that.

A few guys over there have painted it to whatever colour suits them

Maybe u can fit the 2zz plenum on it, are they a simular dimensions?

Totally different and will not bolt onto 1zz head.

Guys keep it clean and on topic please. :D
