Any cold air intake systems made for aurion? I want to fit one but i cant find jack shiet on the net. will custom made have a dissadvantage compared to branded ones???? Any suggestions?

Posted

i havent looked or heard of one...but i no there is a rolla on this forum(black) with a custom one from liverpool exhaust..maybe try and find him or call liverpool exhaust up and see what they can do ?

custom made mate!

not all exhaust shops will do CAI! (since they're not making alot of money out of it). I did a custom CAI for the Camry, costs $250.

Make one for your car...

Get some Flexible Hose from Bunnings or the like, run it from your airbox intake pipe down to the front bumper behind the grille, somwhere down low with plenty of available air... (But not too low to pick up water like mine lol)...

Custom made FTW

Be the first :toast:

lmao true that. i know a place that can do custom for me for about $150 including parts and installation. However i researched and found that is350 has the same heart as the aurion and injen has short ram intake for the is350. İm guessing that would also fit the aurion and the is350 has gained 11hp or so from dyno sheets. Thats for $300. So what ya guys think? Go Custom and be the first or go with injen??? İm guessing i wont have power gain as much as the injen with the custom work right???? Confusedd :S How is short ram intake different from cai?

isn't the IS350 RWD? Meaning different engine configuration in the bay so an IS350 intake wont fit an Aurion...

You will notice SFA difference between a custom and "brand name" CAI on the road, unless the MAF area on the custom pipe is messed up.

Agreed.

Also CAI FTW over that SRI, get it down into the front bar cavity like the Corolla ones. Also Aluminium intake with pod filter FTW over stock airbox and flexible tube, noise alone makes the difference :D

Gee lol as you guys are suggestn the best way to go is custom at this stage. Out of subject got my license suspended for 1 month today when trying to get to hospital for a friend. The bstard gave me 2 fines at once. One for following too close 149 dollars 1 point and 129kmh 293 dollars (131-2) and 4 points. total up close to 450 dollars. Im screwed lol. 28 days on the road and afte that 1 month no driving. Told him i was in an emergency and tried to be polite but got him angry at the start by being arrogant and im on my Ps. 5 points gone in one go. What happens if i drive while im not supposed to drive in that 1 month suspension time and get caught??

You get anal raped along with another suspension period and court appearance. Next suspension is usually a year, if you get caught in that then it's license cancellation where you can re-apply for a license after three years by going to court again. Happened to a mate of mine, he ended up going overseas for a couple of years when his license was cancelled.

and im pretty sure the fine is over $1000 its not worth driving at all...would you rather not drive 1 month? or 1 year? lol its a big difference, i lost minefor 3 months and am halfway through it, its completely fscked, plus no public transport around here so makes it even harder!!!

Anyways, go a custom jobbie. Even if you don't gain that much power it'll be worth it for the orgasm inducing noise it shall make! hehe

Look on the bright side, maybe you will have more time to detail the car ??

Sorry, bad sence of humour. Maybe you could appeal if a doctor would to back you up. That may reduce your fine if anything.

Back to the topic. Does this void the warranty ?

Best of luck

i wanted to change the springs off my car, i asked the toyota dealers, and he said it only voids the parts that you change.

İm not sure but ım guessıng ıt would be the way you saıd ıt. only for the parts you change.

erm, i remember asking insurance company, i think there is some issue with the insurance issue? and for sure i think u cant hv 2 intake for it? hrm... I have already planned my custom air intake for my aurion, due to bigger plan for audio, there is a bit delay, will let u guys know wat will improve from my mod soon.

p/s: The mod is just bringing MORREEE cold air, and a bigger air box... not clearly explained, but will show u guys soon ><"

Saw the new trd aurion in cherry red and black 19s in templestowe. Looks absolutely stunning. My mouth dropped when i was about to open my cars door and saw this red thing come behind me and when i layed eyes on it, i said can this be omggg what have i done??? why didnt i wait for this?. Very very stunning. Had red interior. The paint also looks very nice. Never got to see the inside in detail because it passed behind me but it lives near me so if i see it again ill take pics. I definately would buy it for 50 grand or so but only if the performance backs up the exquisite looks.

I wouldnt see any performance gains from a CAI in the Aurion, it would sound better but thats about the extent of it. I dont own an Aurion but from what I saw at the dealership they have a snorkel running from the airbox to the cars grill, this would be a prity efficienct system sucking in cold air.

Posted (edited)

^yeah it does. I also read that the induction system has been specially made so its able to suck alot of cold air.

Yeah actually now that you mention it I remember reading that the Aurions engine (no doubt thanks to its efficient intake) sucks in the most air out of any other 3.5L in the world.

EDIT: Quick search, here is the quote:

"The Aurion's 3.5 Litre engine boasts the LARGEST VOLUME of air intake than any non turbo 6 cylinder engine in the world"

So there are no real gains to be had in this department, if anything, losses!

CAI Cold air intake and ram air is all total bull**** on an Aurion and on most modern cars especially small capcity ones. Anyone who shows you a dyno chart showing that this mod alone on a dyno will make any difference is not telling the truth or is being conned. The Aurion is not restricted in its air intake and it draws its air from outside the engine bay. might look fast if you open the bonnet and sound fast but will only really impress the insurance company and the dealer warranty claim manager who will see this as a great way to milk a sucker who will believe anything. Waste of time on an Aurion.

i just want the intake for the sound to be honest. Just a bit more noisyness at high revs is all i want. Maybe i should jst get a pod filter. Whats the real difference between pod filter and cold air intake? Dumb question ibut ts better to ask than wonder right??

Yeah exactly... most modern cars are put together very well and there isnt much room for improvement through things like CAI. Arugably even in older cars with inefficient intakes something like a CAI doesnt do a great deal. It requires more then just that mod, you will need exhaust mods as sucking in more air means at the same time you need the exhaust to keep up with the extra air.... and on top of this you then need a piggyback to tune the car with the new mods. So all that work in an Aurion to get very little gains really at a cost of $2000+. Just wait for the supercharger, might cost more, but there will be sizeable gains!

Im not extremely knowledgable in this area.... but I BELIEVE a CAI involves piping to situate the filter in an area that gets a better flow of air whereas a POD filter is just placing a POD onto the current intake set up. I can understand for sound purposes it may improve, but that really is the extent of it. What Id be more interested in if I owned an Aurion is EXHAUST. I know at the back there is a dual exhuast set up however Ive never been under the Aurion yet, many manufacteres have the dual set up coming from a split after the cat converter rather then a proper dual system where you have one pipe for the rear cylinder bank and another pipe for the front cylinder bank. If the Aurion is just for appearance (the first set up described), then there would be reasonable gains to be had from this exhaust mod (seperate exhausts) coupled with a piggyback ECU (200kw is the limit for doing this kinda thing in a FWD car Ive been lead to believe as given the engine is tranverse, the lengths of piping wont be equal which can pose problems in higher powered vehicles, not that they really exist in FWD). If I had to guess, I think the Aurion might just be for appearance though as history tells me they are cheap on exhausts, I have a 3VZ and the merge for it is ridiciulous, very inefficient, while the intake is good with a variable intake system. This exhuast mod is something you'd do after warranty because for starters you want the engine fully broke in and secondly you dont want to void your warranty early on because something not put together right might pop up in the early days.

There is some sort of vacuum operated butterfly valve in the air intake. Im assuming that this only opens under heavy acceleration. Was thinking about ditching the butterfly. Some sort of custom made funnel that directs air from behind the grill up to the intake would surely increase flow into the airbox. The size of the air intake is quite small so any way of diverting more air into it would surely be a benefit to the huge bore throttle body.

The stock toyota filter looks pretty restrictive and there is also another filter in the top of the airbox before the throttle body. I think increasing the air flow to the box on the standard set up is the best way to go.

without a supercharger or turbocharger forcing extra air under pressure into the engine increasing the air flow capacity to the engine will do nothing at all. The vac butterfly is for warm air on cold start and works well without causing enough of a restriction to worry about with any non supercharged engine anyway. this whole CAI business is an aftermarket accessory rip off using dubious science and dodgy claims

im calln it quits for now for the intake mod. i dont want to risk it at this moment as car is only on 7000kms and has the 10000km service to go into. the engine is still quite brand new and needs full break in. that will happen after the 10000km service. as i know after it opens up, the sound of the car slightly gets better and ofcourse the car can then reach its potential on high octane fuel. about changing the exhaust system, i dont want a raw sound like honda accords etc. i want it to be quite below high revs and when you pass 4000rpm its gonna start screaming like the bmws do on their 2500cc + motors. all sound around all revs is something that will make the aurion look cheap imo.
