traded my 04 stivo in for a cooper S 2002~

how would you guys compare thess two cars

anything in particular that i have to be reminded about, in regards to the mini?

Posted

as far as i see it, the sportivo is easily faster, looks better and is half the price.

What more to know?

at the hillclimb there was a john cooper works edition Cooper S and it was doing the same times as my sportivo, except the Cooper had some suspension mods. So i guess they are a reasonable handler.

I've driven a stock Mini (not the S) and stock-for-stock, unfortunately the mini out handles the stivo in all respects - sorry guys :(

ud be surprised at just how fast a cooper S can be ;)

i can safely say that cooper S is faster than a stivo , both in modded form

just ask shao himself, im sure he'll agree ;)

Judging from Xoom's prancing about, i guess tt depends on wat u mean by "modded".

All things being equal, both are almost as fast in a straight line at high revs. It's just much easier to go faster in the MCS with the super wide powerband. For a day to day, the mini has so much more grunt and you can accelerate in 6th. Something NA stivos can't do unless u're as patient as a saint.

the '02(R50) minis made a bit less power than the later models, so again it depends on which model u're comparing against. Either way, in good hands, they all turn a helluva lot better than the corolla.

You'd hope the Cooper S would handle better and be faster around a track considering how much more they cost then the Corolla Sportivo. Definatly a nice car, just a shame they are owned by BMW :P

ok~ picked up the cooper s this morning, and just got home from work...

cooper S has a much more balanced torque output, real power between 3500-6500 rpm, tho not as torquey, stock vs stock, cooper s will sure run a better time, but feels like its slower than a sportivo due to less torque and no LIFT boost... in a straight line, while both cars under 2krpm, both cars would equal, between 2-6k, the supercharger would get a fair bit infront... when the lift kicks in, the stivo might be a car length behind...

handling... i gotta give it 5 stars to da Cooper S... i wouldnt have the balls to run 150km on a non-perfect road with the stivo *stock, with 17" rims, with sumitomo htrz2*, but i did it on the mini tonight and could be pushed further... runnning dunlop SP sports 9000 on all four corners... really amazed me how well it gripped and how fine the suspensions were tuned

i've had some issue with the stivo gear box, redline on first and second gear, occasionally wont be able to upshift, seems like there is something blocking the gear from engaging... happened to my 04 stivo bfore, also to my friend's 05 stivo. and we both got our gear box adjusted from toyota recall

LOL there's a comparison?

Certainly not on price

yea... haha...

man~ i miss my LIFT! 6000RPM ! YO!

imagine if my cooper s got lift :D it will be one of the best hatch!

sure mechanically mini would break down before the rolla do

gotta say a yes on that too :) toyota lasts forever!

Being a BMW though it should hold its value right?

Ah well Taijee if you get bored just trade it in for something faster... *cough* EVO *cough*

got my hands on an evo 8 earlier :) haha too fast, 130km/hr from one light to the 2nd light *not really that far*... something i can drive real fast, but i am sure i dont have the potential to reveal the true power of that car...

if i am to pick a fast car... evo wont be on top of my list... always been a GTR fan, KING of street racing! YO! RB26!

i think toyota holds the value better... especially sportivo!

i used to be aiming for something that RUNs, but it has been a year or two ago... nowadays just got my mind hooked onto something that people would give the WOW effect and also able to run for a bit when you need it

Haha yes the Evolution has the potential to get you into a vast amount of trouble in a very short amount of time... Actually took Dad's Evo out for a spin tonight as my 'rolla was low on fuel, it's just an absolute rocket yet so subtle... Definitely speeding ticket territory

Sort of feels a bit wasted on the street though, so I understand your decision

beside the street part... i wont be good enough, as a driver to get the true power out of the evo :)

start off with a -15% sc pulley from Alta or M7 and see how u go. BFYB

ok im late to reply but i give ma oppinion.

i think cooper S is A LOT easier to drive fast.

i hvae light tuned smallport 4age ae86 and imho its very similar to sportivo. accelerates pretty good at mid range, but high revs are "the shizzle, pho sho !!" really we gotta rev our late model 4age or 2zzge hard to pull away from others etc. i have drive a cooper S on many occaision and its like it feels a lot more relaxed to drive.

relaxed like i dont have to rev it hard etc.

yeah ive been in a cooper S and they are so much better car.

but you cant really compare a na car with that of a forced inducted car.

but anyways, im a stivo owner myself but...

sportivos are really overrated. i dont want this forum to turn out to be ozhodna which thinks all hondas are the king of the road. sportivos are just a na car with a little punch, nothing really special.

just my 2cents.

When I first got my 05 sportivo stock offcourse, I ran into one at the M5 tollgates. We both saw each other and punched it. Being a new sportivo owner, i couldnt land the 1-2 change. But i managed to stay right behind the Cooper S. I did lag when I waited for lift to engage.

Stock for stock a cooper S has a better chasis and lower centre of gravity which is a win.

Just some food for thought
