jason: its a lot more oil than just blow by... especially on a new car...

its on the hot pipe after the turbo... and just last night, one of the boys pointed out that its coming out of the pipe before the intake manifold too...

which reminds me... i just see if its coming out of the joins at the intercooler too...

young: nope... he is a lazy slack cnut... :(

hahahaha, kidding... i think he forgot... i know i'd forgotten until just now...

okay, so just did a little bit of searching on the net about the xr6t and oil in the intake...

i came across something really disturbing...

cut and pasted direct from workshop manual;

Turbocharger Inspection and Verification

NOTE: It is normal for a small amount of combustion gas to pass into the crankcase. These ’blow-by’ gases are scavenged into the air intake system through the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system.

Some engine oil, in the form of a vapour is carried into the air intake system with the blow-by gases (this engine oil also contributes to valve seat durability). This means that oil will collect inside the air intake components and the turbocharger. This is not an indication that the turbocharger oil seal has failed. The turbocharger oil seal will not fail unless the bearings fail first, which will cause the turbocharger to become noisy or seize.

Do not install a new turbocharger due to oil inside the turbocharger or the air intake components. If a leak is detected in the oil supply or return tubes or connections, locate and rectify the source. Do not install a new turbocharger due to an oil leak.

so basically... even if the oil is leaking out of the pipes, dont bother checking the turbo, cause its definitely not the problem... ugh!

does the PCV return pre-turbo? If it does, the whole intake/cooler etc will be coated in oil from the blow-by. Catch can usually sorts it out, all the XR6 turbo coolers I've purchased have had a liberal amount of oil in them.

This is a good point. Just vent it to atmo for extra awesomeness.

  • 4 months later...

my issues with the car havent become a lot more since my last post...

so here goes the rant of all rants... if you cbf'd reading, here is the short version:

Ford are a bunch of completely useless fuqs... and they all need to be anally raped with an exhaust system and then be made to stand on the highway with a sign saying "under no circumstances are you to buy a Ford. they are sh!t. buy a korean car before you buy an aussie car"

...........and yes, i've got PMS... lol

*deep breath*

i rang up on monday and booked my car in for tuesday to get the 15,000km service done.

FDS (Ford Dumb Slut): sure no problem. anything else we can help you with?

Me: yeah, i have the following concerns which i'd like to be looked at.

1. turbo leaking oil into hot pipe of the intake

2. a/c leaks water on to my feet

3. ICC (headunit) screen freezes some times when an ipod/iphone is playing

4. wind noise (loud whistling noise) heard above 100km/h

5. cold start idle is REALLY rough and the smell of fuel can be smelt.

FDS: oh yeah, my old xr6 turbo used to idle really rough as well.

me: thats comforting to hear! cya

tuesday after noon rocks around and i go pick up my car...

FDCS (Ford Dumb c0ck Sucker): here is the report on your problems.

1. checked and found small quantity of oil around turbo pipes. also aftermarket blow off valve fitted. return vehicle to standard and return for rechecking.

2. Inspected and found a/c water leaking out of heater box. needs updated foam tape application affected area. part on back order

3. checked ipod system. no fault codes logged. no program update available. no fault with vehicle.

4. road tested along highway to check for wind noise. could not hear noise at time of checking.

5. no fault codes logged. did notice throttle body was dirty so cleaned throttle body. reset pcm memory and tested. found to start all ok.

FDCS: oh and by the way, your car is over due for service.

me: well, thats why i booked it in.

FDCS: no, you've only asked for these items to be checked.

me: why would i book in a car that needs a service and not get the service done?

FDCS: well, thats what you've done.

me: umm, no, thats NOT what i've done. the lady who took my details over the phone must have not written it down properly.

me: so basically, you've done nothing with my car except to "check" it and say that its fine, when it's clearly not!!!

FDCS: *blank stare*

FDCS: so when would you like to book the car in for the 15,000km service? we can wait until the a/c part comes in and then we can do it all at once.

me: well, that could be another week away... by then, i'll have done 19,000kms and ford will say that my warranty is void because it hasnt been serviced according to the book.

FDCS: no, no, no, no, ford would NEVER do something like that!

me: mate, you're trying to fuqin weesle out of a warranty claim right now with NO leg to stand on. imagine if something did go wrong, ford would VERY MUCH do that... so how about i never book my car in for service? how about you just give me my key so i can drive out of here in my peice of sh!t ford?

FDCS: umm, okay. but you'll have to get it rebooked in for the service.

me: i will book it in. but it wont be with you. as far as i'm concerned you've done nothing but waste my time. you're all a useless bunch of fuqs... hopefully i never see you guys again!

FDCS: now now sir, there is no need for that.

me: *completely ready to punch the guy in the face!* i'm sorry, but there really IS A NEED FOR THAT!!! you've wasted my time, you havent done what i asked you to do, the car is still a hunk of sh!t and you guys are standing there blaming the problems on me!!

FDCS: *blank stare*

me: that's what i thought... bye.

*walks out*

enter today........

i just wasted my lunch hour and went to the gabba ford.

i tried to explain all the issues to the guy and he seemed to be quite understanding... so i've booked the car in next week and the foreman is going to come for a proper drive with me.

a couple of comments by the guy got my blood boiling again though... but i kept really calm and didnt bite back... some of these were:

"oh yeah, all of my turbo cars leak oil into the intake. it's called blowby." - IF ITS LEAKING THAT MUCH OIL DUE TO BLOWBY THERE THERE ARE BIG ISSUES!!!!!!!!

"all ford performance vehicles idle really rough in the mornings. thats completely normal."

"whistling noise could just be the turbo spooling up" - ARE YOU FUQIN SERIOUS!!! I KNOW WHAT A TURBO SOUNDS LIKE YOU DUMB FUQ!!!

ugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

i'm soooooo ready to drive this POS car into the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

either way... when i get my car back, its going to elite automotive to get tickled... cause obviously the ford warranty doesnt mean sh!t anyway...

nice ride man ;) i was amazed by the acceleration of these things...my dad rented a G6E once and WHOA it goes. It seems like you dont enjoy owning it though:O may i ask why you bought this over the aurion?

um doesn't the TRD Aurion put out 200fwkw standard? Pretty sure that's what DJKOR achieved.

Sorry to hear that Ford "Service" is once again stuffing you around. This is why whenever I book in for anything I always record the phone call - it has backed me up on poor service many times and usually results in a significant discount due to the required rescheduling.

wow sounds like your really having a rough go with the XR6T but i must say after the problems i had with mine I’m not in the least surprised, these cars are nothing but trouble though, and for me personally just goes to prove i did do the right thing in p!ssing it off when i did.. I did think that maybe just maybe they had got their act together and built the Fg's properly...

I had one of the last of the BF's had the "turbine" silver accented body kit and wheels which basically had the Fairmont GHIA interior minus the wood grain (thank god) but plus a Sunroof and "premium brakes".

So it was back in 09 the car was 08 with 18,000kms on not a mark on it but that’s where the good times ended... sure it hauled **** like it was nobody's business and after driving several F6's since i believe that mine wasn’t standard because i don’t think the F6's went as good as it.

BUTTTT...

Average fuel consumption was 23L/100kms... Ford did not know what was wrong and could not fix this....

Sunroof leaked and rattled like a Bitch constantly it drove you mad! - Well have to send the car here there and everywhere to get this LOOKED AT not fixed just looked at..

Had very weird pedal feel and vibrations/shudder from the front brakes - pads/rotors and fluid was replaced but only half solved the problem and Ford was not willing to look any further at the problem

Knocking noise from the rear suspension which so I’m told is a common thing with the Blade Control IRS but i said surely not at 18000kms....

Climate control didn’t work properly half the time,Exhaust drowned something shocking

So after all this i figured if it this much trouble now what's it going to be like in a few years 50,000kms time??

Really was a shame because it wasn’t a bad looking bus and did steer and drive nice especially on the highway.

Some days i miss the stupid wave of torque it had but really over all i happy with the Aurion package I’ve got happening these days.

Steven. It was a joke. I was getting at the fact that a lot of money will get you hardly any performance gain. :(

Adam. Couldn't agree more with you. It's such a great car and has so much potential to be so much better, but ford just let it down with their quality (or lack thereof).

Even though I'm used to the power and pull of the car, it still puts a smile on my face. Then something reminds me of the problems and I hate it again. Haha

Hey guys

I was looking through some of the posts above on the Ford BF series. I too have had come pretty major issues with fuel economy. Highway 24 litres/100km and City up to 32 per 100.

I had found the brake pedal sometimes felt a little spongy for my liking but then at other times it came to be really rock hard. The brake rotors were warped and the car shuddered to a stop which felt very uncomfortable. I noticed one day when I was stopped at the set of lights on Kessels Road heading east at Mains Road even with the slight downhill run the car would not creep forward with it in drive.

It seems that the local Ford dealer workshop foreman had never heard of the problem which did not inspire any confidence. I was told by a brake specialist that the ABS module was faulty and would need to be replaced. (very expensive) Luckily I got a second opinion. In the end it cost me near on a grand with a couple different mechanics and brake shops before I took it to Brakes Plus in Springwood on Kingston road. The guy told me as soon as I walked in that there is a problem with the pedal to booster adjustment as well as the booster to master cylinder. It cost me under $400 and all was fixed. In the previous 12 months I had replaced the brakes (rotors and pads) twice before seeing the guys at Brakes Plus.

This has most certainly cured my fuel economy issues although I have not done a comprehensive economy run I have noticed that I am using just over half the fuel each week. I was beginning to become more than a little disillusioned with the late model Falcons but I have been told since that there are a number of other makes of cars out there with the same brand of braked fitted which are having similar problems.

Hope this may be of some use to Trent and Adamsy if they still has their cars

Gotta love the oldies. No computers. No ABS. Just fly by the seat of your pants stuff
