Catback Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm a bit of an ignoramas but what exactly is a catback exhaust?

Is it a muffler with the cat convertor inbuilt?

ok then, recommendations on what to do for my Auto 1zze exhaust?

a catback exhaust is everything from the catalytic converter back. so you get the cat, pipe and muffler. hence its name cat-back.

Actually, a cat back is only the stuff behind the cat, so pipe, resonators, muffler, tip.

can i paint your cat with A539 patterns....... :D

That'd be a classy looking cat ... so much so, I'd be happy to donate my pesky cat to your "research" ...

Anyone know where to get a nice catback in Syd? I haven't done the search yet, too lazy as I see this topic here :P

you could try Liverpool exhaust as they advertise having a custom exhaust for the Corolla, Influx and xTiGeRx also have a custom system from somewhere but I'm not sure where, you should ask one of them...

Drive to Brisbane or get a CES system freighted down there. A few from Sydney are doing the drive up here for that reason!!

Haha..thanks.. :)

Cheers. Has any of you guys heard about the Hi Tech mufflers near Oxford Street, Sydney?? They seems doing CES as well, everytime I drive pass, there is always a hot car there. I've seen a Lambo, NSX, quite a few Ferrari, and also that "ridiculous" Rally looking WRX STI POLICE CAR.

I think the Hi Tech may have some reputation for CES??:blink:

What is referred to as CES on here is 'CES racing' (Custom Exhaust Specialist Racing) an exhaust specialist in Brisbane who have made an exhaust that has proven gains on the sportivo.

What you are referring to as CES is 'Custom Exhaust System' as in an exhaust unit. Please don't confuse the two...

CES system is also legal in the DB it puts out. From memory XtigerX's system was pretty loud and had a problem with droning.

the CES exhaust is nothing overly special

sorry to anyone who has got one im not saying there bad im just saying that all they are is mandrel bent 2 1/2 cat back pipe work

with a particular hot dog and muffler and really as long as its a really good rated hot dog and muffler you can get anyone you want depending on note taste and amount of niose you like

so any exhaust system place can do it all they have to do is make the pipes to follow the same line as te stock one

ive sussed it all out with the guy INFLUX got his from so i am going to a different bloke i know who is doing ALOT cheaper but same system

they call it a special tested system and upprice it but like i said its nothing that anyone would have tried before anyways

im not trying to upset anyone here but thats what i have found out by talking around so dont travel all the way up there just find out what parts they use and get somone to do it from your area or like i said use a different muffler depending on personal preferences but be warned different mufflers give different performance

but thats what forums are all about letting people know what you know so in saying that im always up to other suggestions so if anyone can confirm to or against what i just said go for it i wont take it personally like i said im just saying what i currently know

the cat-back on MAP81's system turned out very well.

He purchased a specific muffler and resonator himself from an exhaust place after a bit of research, then took it to the place I had my chaser done for it to be fitted up, fully flanged, and a flange added to his factory exhaust right after the cat so he can swap the stock system back on whenever he wants.

He only went for a 2.25" mandrel system on his Levin, it doesn't drone, it's not loud at all, and cost less than $300 all up. (TIG welded too, the welds are incredibly small and neat.)

We'll post up his dyno figures from before/after when I re-map the emanage for him. The butt-dyno indicates a decent performance increase though.

hey guys i just picked up my car today after get the manifold back zorst put on

its awesome i havent even reset my ECU yet (some people say its better to do this to get better gains quicker from your upgrades) and i can still notice the extra power already i used to have to concentrate real hard to land lift from 1-2 before now i just do it no problems so it has definatly worked but it kinda feels up and down so i must say resseting the ECU would probably be a real good idea

alot of you who get the chance to hear it will probably say it way to loud and guess what i agree LOL but my zorst mechanic wants me to sorta drive it in for a week or 2 then we gonna meet up and talk about what i need to do or whatever he said it may even quiet itself down after all the parts get a ??CARBON??(i think thats what he said) build up in the pipes

so yeah

anyways just thought i would let you all know

cheers guys

http://www.rollamods.com/gallery/extreme/index.htm

That's a small gallery of the pipework I've had done at Extreme Engineering, Marks car was not at "mates rates" either ;)

We haven't got under Marks car to take photo's of his exhaust yet but it's the same quality as the one on the white POS corolla pictured. The work on that car is from the grey-pipe back...
