what is the weight on the oil? i am worried about this "super light weight" oil

Posted

alot of people on the forum also use it its superlight weight shockproof redline oil 90/140w

Posted

Use Redline MT-90 mate, shockproof would end up making it worse

Posted

mt-90? or MTL.. and you reckon shockproof would make it worse? honestly.. will changing it to mt90 or mtl make that much difference

Posted

MT-90 is the one for the cars with 2ZZ which recommend for celica, lotus and the sportivo.

can i come in on friday mark and any idea on price and what do you reckon is the 1st problem just the oil?

I was told by a few guys not to use the redline range of gearbox oils in my car so i opted for Nulon smooth shift which has been fine , also was nowhere near as dear as the redline stuff...

For future reference if anyone searches about the oil.

Shockproof is good oil, just don't use it in a gearbox with synchronisers, ie, anything other than a race box.

Plenty of boxes have been stuffed because of it, and I don't care what the Redline PR machine says. Reality > marketing.

The M90 etc is probably fine, but never used it, I use Motul.

Nulon smooth sorted out my crunchy box in the AE92.

Id have some more input, but the punctuation is killing my face.

Thanks Dave and Boys for the heads up,

Do you reccomend MT-90? and what about a Nulon addative i have heard its a gimmick? any say on that.

Thanks,

Used the Nulon G70 additive in a couple of sportivo 6 speed boxes and two C52 Toyota 5 Speeds and been happy with the results considering the cost of a tube.

as some people on the forum already know i work with gearboxes all day long,so i have had the oppurtunity to trial a lot of different oils in my 6 speed 2zz gearbox, i would recommend either castrol vmx80 or the best oil i have found for both shift and protection is penrite "semi syn manual trans" <thats what is written on the bottle. but if it has had the shockproof oil in it i would go for the castrol vmx80 as it will wash the synchros out better than any other oil and get your shift back up to where it was before. basically the shockproof oil gunks up the synchro so it doesnt slow the gear down as well as it should......

ive been running royal purple in the engine and in the box since i built my engine and havent had any issues ..... yes its a little more $'s but i think its worth it

Just realised I made a mistake in my previous post, it's supposed to be "sin manual trans 75w-85"
