Ok i'm getting to annoyed with the so called abs 'clunk' sound from the rear springs area when ever the car starts. It's definately nothing i put in the boot so i don't know what else it can be.

Does anyone have a remedy for this sound, would a change in bump stopper/springs help?

The gen 6 always makes that sound. Personally, I noticed that in hotter weather it is much less noticeable than a cold start up. My remedy? Try slowly rotating the volume knob on the stereo towards the right.

It has nothing to do with your springs etc. It comes from the brake components. If you can't put up with it, pull out your ABS fuse and ignore the Check Engine Light. Of course that would just be stupid though. Seriously, it goes for less than a second and is only when you first start the car so there really isn't enough cause for complaint.

My dad's AT-x also has the noise although it's not as loud.

Martinj, what about insulations, you got any suggestions?

I can't recommend any more insulation, as the Camry/Aurion is a very well insulated car already by most standards. The clunk sound is momentary (maybe 1 second). In my view, it is not really an issue whatsoever.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being not at all, 10 being really badly), how would you rate the annoyance from this clunking sound at start-up?

Sadly when the car takes off, the only sound that can be heard is the clunk sound. I would rate the annoyance pretty high, 8 out of 10 on par with say cracked CV joints when turning or constant brake squeaking.
