2012 Corolla Full Model Change leaked

Recommended Posts

The styling looks good, but they need to do something about the asthmatic performance of the car. I recently had my Aurion in at my dealer for a warranty repair and they gave me an up spec (Levin?) Corolla hatch as a loan car for the day. I was literally staggered by the lack of refinement, road noise, and poor drivetrain. I actually went in to work and then had to go straight out, so jumped in the company Ford Focus Titanium Hatch, and talk about night and day. The Ford is quiet, handles really well, has a bloody fantastic drive train (the twin clutch transmission is something else!), feels significantly more powerful than the rolla and is quite simply a far superior vehicle. The next corolla is at real risk of being overtaken by more competitors than Mazda if Toyota don’t pull their head out of the sand. IMHO they should follow the Mitsubishi plan and use the Camry engine in the corolla sports model, and get a refined, responsive transmission going.

It’s actually hard to fathom someone choosing a new corolla over a Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Mitsubishi Lancer, VW polo/golf, Skoda Fabia, and even Hyundai i30. Get with the program Toyota, your competitors are leaving you behind!

Euro/ export-spec Corolla wagon spy shots. Looks like the sedan/ wagon will adopt a similar front end to that of the upcoming Auris.

In Australia, there's the VW Golf Wagon, Opel Astra Sports Tourer (Coming Soon), Holden Cruze Wagon (Coming Soon) & Skoda Fabia Wagon. Would be nice to see the reintroduction of the Corolla wagon down under to go against those cars.

Wow it sure is shaping up to be quite nice. Especially in that bronzeish/metalic brown colour! I hope there is enough grunt to match the looks (as well as a stubby short antenna instead of the long RC look one). Rumours of a an updated version of the zr (probably just the 2ZR-FAE valvematic version the JDM auris got for the current gen) doesn't sound too good though. I can barely go anywhere on the freeway with a car full of ppl in my 100kw 1ZZE-FE as it is.

Please oh please toyota drop a 2AR-FE or the 1.6L supercharged petrol engine in it!

Hmmm.. Not a bad looker. I wouldn't mind replacing the RAV4 with this instead of the Rukus once it's released here. I like the Euro-spec interior with that leather dash piece, wonder if that will be offered in the top-spec model.

Edit: TV ad & promo video from the Japanese Toyota channel.

Does anybody know much about Toyota's "Super CVT-i"? Apparently it's the CVT that's in the current Auris/corolla. I read somewhere that it differs to a standard CVT in that when driven "hard", the transmission shifts in between ratios in steps and so mimicking a regular torque converter. Is that true? Apparently also, under sedate driving it behaves like a regular cvt. It sounds like the best of both worlds to me!
