ok. i just bought this stivo right... its got like 300k's on the clock right now. yesterday afternoon, i was parked at a coles carpark. when i drove away, i heard this screeching like metal on metal coming from the rear end. i asked my mate to get out of the car and listen where it was coming from. we realised it was coming from the back left wheel. by this stage, the noise was getting louder and louder. i drove around the carpark a bit, because it thought it might have been something stuck. inside the car, i had to close my ears when i drove it, the noise was that loud. i stopped the car and jacked it up. looked under the car for a bit, messed around with the wheel, took it off, looked at the brakes, everything was fine....

i put the car back down on the ground, and went to drive home. this time, when i drove off..........

there was no noise. and there hasnt been since...

end of weird story.... WTF?!?!?!?!?!!?

yeah, white ones at that..

but seriously, i was speaking to danz and he had the same problem.

anyone else had something like this happen? and what did you do about it?

if its what i think it is take it back to toyota cause they need to modify the rear brake pads and reset up the rear brakes. they know about that issue. other than that wouldnt have a clue what it is.

Its not really a problem. Its just that when I fitted my coilover, I forgot to undo the front wheels nuts when it was already jacked up. So I have to step on the brake so the wheel don't move then my friend can undo the nuts. When I drove the car, it made that loud screeching noise, sounded like brake pad is gone, but then it gradually go louder and finally gone. I dunno what really causes it. Could be the stepping on the brake? Dunno. It's gone so it doesn't bother me no longer. It was on the left front though (sounded like it coming from there)

Hey, its a new car man, what ever the problem is, just bring it back to toyota and abuse them. It might be the breaks being a little sticky?

but yours shouldnt be the pads, they should be new

when do u hear the noise? when the vehicle is moving?

or when u start to brake?

the noise is constant... while moving, while braking....

I've similiar problem as well, which only happen in cold run, what i mean is, leave the car for a long period, overlight maybe, start the car, idle for 2min. then roll the car(1st gear) without peddle the gas. After 5min. run, the noise would gone, is also came from somewhere in the back.
