Has anyone purchased one lately ?

If so, can you advise on a reasonable quality item please.

I have checked Ebay and they range from the most cheap to the ridiculous.

So you home mechanics, what do you use ?

Cheers

I got a cheap unit off eBay when I did, it worked well enough, I'm confident of it being good enough for more changes. Hopefully it's mild steel, so if it does break I'll be able to weld it back together easily enough.

For the time being, it's nice to have had a win with a cheapie :)

You can use a 3/8" ratchet(it is actually a 10mm square drive tool) to remove the drain bung from the bottom of the housing tabs. The filter housing requires a special tool to prevent damage to the filter housing, especially if you have a 2GR-FE engine with a plastic housing.

Oh I see.

Well then I think the Audi had the same type of thing from the sound of it.

Maybe when I start servicing by myself then I'll get one, for now Toyota can deal with it haha.

Hey guys. I'm about to carry out my oil service. Got my housing removal tool, 5w-30 synthetic oil and new oil filter.

I have a Kincrome one i brough from my local autopro store, little pricey if i remember it was around the $40ish mark, but it makes getting tight filter off easy work so its worth it :)

Just make sure you get the side tabs lined up correctly. If you don't, you may snap the tabs off the side of the filter housing.
