Hi All,

Have completed a search and couldn't find anything on this, so hopefully am I am not asking a query that has already been posted. I recently took my Sportivo in to Beaurepaires for 4 x new tyres on a Friday and noticed over the weekend after that the wheels were hitting the inside hubs a hell of a lot. Called them back on the Monday to find that they had replaced my 40's with 45's without even telling me about the fact...apparently to make it legal (currently on a Novated Lease). Is this correct, what's the limit of sizes that you can do down from stock before becoming illegal??

This topic has been covered extensivley but I will attempt to answer your questions anyway.

Need to clarify some things first.

Is it your wheel or tyre that is hitting your "inside hub"?

Do you mean your strut of the inside of your wheel arch?

How low is your car?

What is the offset of your wheels?

I assume you are now running 215/17/45 where before you were running 215/40/17. A 45 series tyre usually has a higer load rating than a 40 series. To keep your car legal you need to have a load rating of at least 87. It can be dificult to find a 40 series tyre that meets this load rating were as most 45 series tyres do. Also 40 sereis tyres that do meet this load rating are usually very expensive. You can find a list of brands in a sticky at the top of the Wheel & Tyre section of this forum.

Since replacement, does'nt it make it unsafe if they serverly rub on in the wheel arches, and reducing the life of the tyres.

Also Beaurepaires must justifify on what they mean by "illegal"..... I would be seeking written proof dude.

My car was on a novated lease, which technically makes it your car, the leasing company probably instruted them to fit cheaper tyres dude.

If its hitting the inside of the "hub" then it actually sounds as though you have no wheel spacers but if you say that you only have say the stock Stivo wheels then it is unessesary you only need spacers if you have bigger off-set......... :blink:

As far as i know they arnt illegal!? But who knows now-a-days one day you can do something another day u cant!!! <_< I think that its about time that the RTA, POLICE and the GOVERNMANT sit down and finally right a legislation on what can and cant be done to a street driven car and also include what can be done as long as it has been "ENGINEERED" by a suitable mechanic/technician/engineer. So many times we have all heard stories of people being "defected" for certain modifications where they have had engineering certificates to validate such changes to their cars and been told by the fine issuing officer that "Dont show me that! Having that piece of paper does not make it legal or road worthy"....

So why dont they finally make up a set list of rules outlinning what can and cant be done!!! I think that since cars in Australia have been modified or "DONE-UP" from the early 1960's or even earlier like on the old V8 HotRods, the powers that be should make up their minds on what is legal!!!! Look at how many enthusiasts are modifiying their cars these days.........GET WITH THE TIMES AND MAKE UP SOME LAWS IF YOU WANT TO FINE US!!!!! :D

dunno about the other states but in QLD, if you change your tyre/rims; The overall diametre of the new rims+tyre can only be +/- 1inch compared to the stock rims+tyre. The width is the same, +/- 1 inch.

      2001 Toyota Camry wagon passenger side locks not working

      Had a similar issue with my 2003 Camry sedan. I'm think the mechanism might be bit stiff, so removing the door card and spraying the locking cable (the one that pushes the lock knob into the lock and unlock position on the interior door handle) with some Innox might work to loosen up the old grease and get it working again.

      2007 - floor mats

      Hi Ed, Hmm that's a tough one mate ..short of going to Toyota to get genuine and no I doubt they would laugh at you as it's a sale and money is tight right now. I am not sure if you are on Facebook or not but I have seen an advert on there for what looks like superb floor mat sets that do seem excellent quality and a wide range but like most things now they are not cheapish. My best advice is source some good quality ones and search online for someone who offers embroidery as some do tradie shirts and logos on clothing it may be worth a phone call to those sort of places as I know a local one to me does all sorts of work on many things related to embroidery or an alternative choice is the online sites like Temu...       2001 Toyota Camry wagon passenger side locks not working

      Gday, I've got a 2001 Camry wagon which has been having locking issues for a while now, just started occurring out of the blue. There is no fob so we manually unlock and lock from the driver side door, however the rear and front passenger doors consistently have issues. Either when we unlock one or both doors don't unlock and must be unlocked from inside the car, or when we lock it one or both don't lock and the car beeps. To fix that, we open the door, lock it from the inside, the lift up the handle and close the door before releasing the handle. That fixes the locking issue. When testing the locks from inside the car, I can see that they partially lock and unlock, so I'm wondering if they need to be replaced entirely or if there's some other way to fix it. Cheers

      2002 Hilux Engine Replacement

      I have a 2002 Hilux that is meant to have a 5le engine but i think it was replaced with a new engine with a turbo before i bought it. Its a different engine compared to what is in the manual - eg the alternator is at the bottom not the top as per the manual. The engine is seized - tried roll starting downhill and wheels just locked up. I cant find what the engine is. Any ideas on where I would find it? Also 5LE engines are hard to find - any ideas on what else i could put in? Does a 1KZ fit?

      Low boost it happens highway 112kmph po299 low boost limp mode gear won't pass 4th even on sports mode when I reset complete normal my engine was rebuilt done 20000km new turbo injector check and good working order I use penrite egr and cat cleaner there was a improvement I didn't get a chance to do over 100 kmph is it fuel air ratio related or valve o2 cat egr map sensor or map filter related? Any thoughts ?

      Boot Dimensions?

      Hi All, Greetings from the UK. I wondered if any kind folk could help me out. I am trying to get hold of some measurements for the boot/trunk of later model Fortuners. Does any know the height, min width (between the stowed 3rd seats) and the min depth from the 2nd row seat backs to the tailgate? Trying to work out if I can get all my luggage on board before I travel. Hope someone can help. Cheers KP
