Hi Guys,

After finishing detailing my car with a friend he happend to observe whilst driving behind me that when I first took off and as I hit lift he said that he noticed a small puff of smoke come out of the exhaust as the high revs and lift kicked in.

Is this a normal thing to happen?

I wasnt so sure if it was perhaps a burn off of fuel or because the car was stationery for a while or quite simply because I havent used lift in a while.

Any feedback would be great! :)

normal because he hadnt used lift in a while... or normal occurrence every time you hit lift???

I never paid attention to 2zz-ge ppuffing out smoke, but, on VTEC honda, it will puff out smoke on lift, as this is due to riching in fuel to safeguard the engine from detonation during lift mode. This is what my honda friends told me :)

I thought the puff of smoke on high revs was because the air filter was dirty..

thats wat somebody told me that owns a vtec prelude.

THat doesn't make any sense.

Well, maybe.

But auto riching at high rev to avoid detonation made more logical sense to me.

all 2ZZ's run rich constantly.... even though an engine runs the best when the air/fuel ratio is perfect, the car is designed to run rich just to ensure it won't detonate when the variables change suddenly ie air temp, air supply etc.
