Anyone had battery issues in the Sportivo?

Recommended Posts

I put my car in for a service with Toyota at Blacktown and everything seemed fine, when it came back to me the battery is dead. I sent it back and they have said that the battery needs replacing and its going to cost me $120. This is the third time this car has been back in 3 weeks, first time was the clutch, they claim that the incorrect peddle height had NOTHING to do with the fact that the clutch was worn out at 55,000 K's.

Second after I paid $1,100 for the clutch it came back crunching on the downshift, they replace second gear and the synchros under warrenty and did a service for $256.

Finally they now want another $110 out of me for a bettery that was FINE before they touched the car.

Any words of advice? Since I decided to keep this car it has been nothing but a bloody expense :(.

go to another dealer in future. buy battery elsewhere too. had probs regarding a warranty deal regarding my rear axle beam. wanted 1700 out of me. claimed axle was damaged when car reversed into the front of me. rear axle beam could have been damaged if it was the back but not the front. ****** off frankston toyota in vic.

all the best,

lauschie

Could it be corrosion on the terminals of your battery? Charged the battery? How many times has your battery been flat?

I would probably save that $110/$120 and invest in aftermarket battery if I had to get a new one. The standard battery runs approx 330CCA and about 25AH with a pretty low RC if I recall correctly. About $180 can get you an Exide, Century or a Supercharge with a little more than twice the capacity in all those areas. No need to spend $400-$500 on Optima or Odyssey's if you're not running heavy Audio gear... but if you are then an Optima D34 YT baby! :D

Yeh.. last nyt..

Was adjusting my HIDs (due to many high beaming on-coming motorists  ) and went to start the car and the poor girl wouldnt turn over. :o needless to say i sh!t myself

Obviously left the lights on too long for the battery's comfort...Anyway, had an electric batt charger handy and plugged it in for 10mins and the car started fine.. *phew*

In my rolla from brand new they gave me the panasonic battery i had 3 flats and had to call NRMA on all the 3 ocassions for a jump start on the last time it happened they guy jump started my car and i let it charge for 40mins i drove it and turned the car off i left it for 1hr came back to try and start the car again and the battery was dead!!!! The guy from NRMA tested it and said that it had a damaged one of the cores sometimes from running a large car audio system can do this to cheap quality batteries!! I called toyota the next day to see what kind of warranty was on the batteries and i was told that toyota only gives a 3 month warranty from day of purchase!!! Well it just tells you how good the stock batteries are doesnt it ,if they only offer 3 months!!! :P

Hi, i have a post regarding my stivos battery about a month ago,i think all stivos or current model rollas alternator are poor quality cause my factory battery died after 2.5year since new and done about 55,000km,i first though thats was normal till i went back to the battery specailist which my battery being replaced after 4 mths, they check the voltage when is idleing is down to 12.3v, normally is over 14vand he said thats very unusal and my 4 mths old battery is only 75% charged,i do at least 30 kms daily (mainly highway) on my stivo without any stereo upgrade,so i took it back to toyota, they checked and say its fine, nothing wrong, nothing i can do but the battery specialist taught me buy a battery charger, the one cost me $17 from big W,charge the battery overnight every 1-2 mths and hopefully it can last to 4 yrs, probably this is the only way to keep the battery

fully charged.

Gents,

Voltage - I have noted that when my car is at idle my headlisghts dim quite a lot, and when I start to drive the lights light up as per normal. None of the cars that I have had in the past have done this, or if they have not to this extent, and I am assuming that this is just not right. Is this an issue? I will mention it to the dealer when it is next in for its service, but any info on this would be appreciated.

thanks

Eck

Yup, mine does this too, always has. First service Toyota said they had fixed it, it never seemed any different, I just gave up.

$1100 for a clutch!!!! Those bloodsuckers.. u could have gotten 2 clutch kits fitted for that money. An Exedy HD clutch kit costs $300-$350. Labour should only be a 6-8hr job so between $300-$400. Toyota rips us blind. Like Honda charges $2300 for an S2000 clutch!! :o

Yeah, talked em down from $1,600 to $1,100. I wanted to tell them to put it all back together and I would take it to a real mechanic but time was against me :(

lexus charged 4500 for a new clutch in the is200.

don't feel so bad!

maybe you toyota boys should get your cars serviced at Lexus. Toyota dealerships generally don't give a stuff - they have thousands of people through the door each day. Too big to notice, too big to care.
