LSD options

Recommended Posts

i heard people say that LSD need about 5000km to run-in probably

you cant push the car during that period otherwise you will damage the LSD

can anyone tell me is it true?

yes in the initial bed in procedure requires u to drive in a figure of 8. like brake pads some manufacturers have different ways of doing things. but yes, a clutch type mechanical LSD would require some form of bedding in. but i don't think 5000km

The MR-S LSD also fits in our gearboxes, there is only one small adjustment to do to make the speedo work. Thats what i found out on the american celica fora.

Sounds to me to be the cheaspest solution since most cars are wrecked from front end damage and i presume that it should be doable to find a used one for cheap.

mechanical lsd's and most commonly refered to as a clutch type lsd - so generally they are one in the same.

thought im sure an engineering nerd like yourself is able to present an argument explaining how the helical/torson also offer 'mechanical' lock up :)

ps - meant the above in the nicest way possible, just addig the disclaimer as i have seen how emotional people get on these forums

They don't, they are just torque biasing, and limit the amount of slip to one wheel via the gearing. So if you have one wheel on dry tarmac and the other on ice, it won't be as good as a mechanical.
