Hi All,

I am not sure if this has been covered or not.

I bought a 2005 Toyota Corolla Ascent Hatch earlier this week (Private Sale)

And I only received 1 Key and Remote from the seller..

Now I was wondering, If I wanted to have a spare key...

Would I need to go to Toyota and Buy a Key and Remote from them and get them Programmed and Cut to suit?

Or can I buy a Blank off Ebay and get it done at a Locksmith, etc.

Been quoted. (Toyota Dealer - Motorama Toyota)

Approx. $60 for the Key Blank

Approx. $65 for the Key Blank to be Cut and Programmed

Approx. $70 for Remote

Totalling Approx. $195 so I can have a Spare Set of Keys.

Been quoted. (Mister Minit)

$160 for the Key Blank and Cutting and Programming

$ 80 for the Remote with Instructions to be programmed myself

Totalling approx. $240 so I can have a Spare Set of Keys.

Sherwin

Different for sportivo keys

The plastic surround snapped on my key the other day, so i rang toyota and the guy reckons they only sell half the surround, otherwise its $300 for a new key, .....went on ebay, found a new case for $10.

Gotta love ebay :D

Yeah, my car is different to that.. I saw the "All-In-One" keys on ebay and was wondering if I can get it changed over..

In the end, I decided best to keep it the same as standard.

I have a Seperate Single Button Remote and a Black Headed Toyota Key (Master Key I think).

Hi Everyone,

I have made some progress here..

Now I have the Blank Key from EBAY.. (Genuine Toyota)

I have gotten it cut by a Locksmith (Cost me $27.50).

And I have it booked in to get Programmed by Motorama Toyota ($30)

So it will cost me $57.50 to Cut and Programme the Key, Whereas, Toyota wanted to charge $65+

Thanks for all that great info sherwin. my car only came with one set of keys as well.

and from toyota i was quoted around $160 for just to cut and program the key itself, no remote.

so i will do what you have done, no problems with the remote and key?

Remote works perfectly and arrived quite quickly from the Seller on Ebay.

The Key took about 1-2 weeks to arrive.

I will let you know on Monday Afternoon how the key goes.. it's getting programmed then.

Monday 1st March 2010.. hoping all goes to plan

I was just searching for how to program the Corolla One button remote and came across this thread(and thanks for that info).I thought I would add some info.

The key required for a 2005 Corolla Ascent (and earlier I Think)with separate remote has a 4C chip.

The Genuine Toyota remote is cheaper from Toyota than Ebay $43(inc GST)

I bought a key blank of Ebay ~$25 and programmed it using the original key and the "pedals Method" = Free

The first key cutter in the shopping centre only charged $10 to cut the key.:)

Total Cost of New Key and Remote Approx $78

Hope this helps someone.

I did exactly what you said and it works perfectly on my 2005 Corolla Ascent.

Total costs of the new key and remote are $55.

Please note that this method only work if you have a Toyota built before Oct 2005.

Hi,

My remote control (shell one which is not integrated in the key) is broken (long story). I have gone through the article and the procedure but my master remote is not working so can anyone suggest a way to program a new remote.

Will appreciate that.

Cheers

I also have this problem. Just bought a 2nd hand 2004 Corolla ZZE122R 5Y and only have 1 key + 1 remote, but the remote doesn't work. Is there a way to code a new remote without a master remote

Would be very much appreciated

Thanks

To code a new remote with no existing remote is possible.Originally I heard it was possible using the normal method as shown in the pdf on the previous page. The part that is different than if you have 1 remote already is to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes(make sure you have the radio code) or disconnect and then reconnect the remote module which is located under the steering column(easier). Now even though I programmed all my keys and second remote on 1 of our Corolla's i didn't manage to get this to work on the other 1 with no remotes..However I took it to a dealer and watched him do exactly what I was trying to do and it worked. He didn't charge me anything.

I just bought a 10/04 Corolla Conquest Sedan ZZE122. It only came with a valet key. Whats the best method forward to getting a spare key made. Ideally would like to get a master key made. But I am not sure what keys came with the car. The owners manual lists two possibilities, one with the 2 button remote+key and one without(only transponder key). Not sure which ones came with my car. Ebay has a wide selection so not sure which one to go for.

Thanks in advance.
