  1. He is having withdrawal syndrome with the recent Police bust on X :P
  2. The 1ZZFE doesn't spin at 8000revs does it, its when the revs are that high that the stock clutch cannot cope as the heat, vibration and friction level is much greater. I don't know why some people have problems and some don't but that is the question with everything else, like why some people have rattles and some don't. Zee
  3. The problem is the gear crunches even with the clutch to the floor. Also happens when people shift very slowly, not racing or anything.
  4. I think that's why we should all put in complaints first and once complaints have been recieved you can say "See i told you so!" if anything happens. I am confident Toyota by now knows of the problem as quite a few of us have written to Jenny at Toyota Australia and most of us have reported this to our respective dealerships. Zee
  5. Yeh, i am using more of Ultimate too because they advertise their fuel better :P p.s i recently was told to boycot BP and MOBIL fuels because thery are the 2 biggest petroleum companies and if we all buy fuel from other companies they will be forced to cut prices due to more competetion. Don't blast me for this, this was someone else's suggestion but i honestly feel that we should do without fuel in the future. Lets all welcome Hydrgen Fuel Cell and Electric powered cars! :D
  6. :o Well a technician at Wollongong Toyota rang the Sydney HQ today and enquired about this issue and they said quite a few people have this problem and it is something "common" in the Stivos and has something to do with the friction plate on the clutch and the flywheel at very high revs, causing the jamming or sticking of the shifter. Now they said the car was made to be driven to high revs but they had to make a clutch with a compromise (comfort, NVH, and ease of use) for all drivers. They said for people wanting to drive it hard all the time and take it to the track, they would recommend a clutch change eg. brass button clutch, but it will be very hard to drive on the street. For those experiencing frequent crunching of gears i would suggest get the Clutch/Flywheel looked at ASAP. It is not worth waiting for Toyota to fix it because every time we crunch gears we are doing damage to the gearbox and you will be looking at a long time without your car when a gear breaks loose. Prevention is better than cure. Toyota is already saying the clutch is made to compromise so i don't expect they will do anything because the car still drives fine the majority of the time under 8000rpm for me. The clutch will only deteriorate as time goes on and so will the gear shifting feel. Look at it this way guys, by replacing the clutch and flywheel you will have so much more satisfaction and fun with the car. The car will be quicker we can hang this issue up once and for all. I know its a lot of money but i feel that this money is justified for the wellbeing of the car. Otherwise we just have to drive it with care which will mean less LIFT, for the rest of the clutch plate's life. Go decide. Zee
  7. HEY NIKICH!! Whats happening, hows the Stivo going? I know you have a Silver one.. I am also planning to keep the car for years at least till the Warranty runs out. It is a great car. Imagine that guys, a Celica with the same drivetrain sells over $40grand we get ours for $10grand less. What more do we expect, well sure the quality might not match the Celica and the Celica is built to be a sports car but the Stivo is well worth every cent imo. Zee
  8. Hmmm, interesting but i have always been a BAR Honda fan :P
  9. I could have swapped cars with you Peekay and you can trade mine in, no need to go through the fuss of selling your mods plus my Stivo has only 14,000kms :P Anyway, what can i say about you and Stu trading your Stivos in for other cars. What you guys are going for are "better" cars imo and that is all that matters for you guys. I would have thought you went for the S2000 but obviously your wife would have disagreed with a 2 seater plus the S2000 might get replaced in the coming years. I am a Honda fan and even if you went for a Jazz i would have said great :D I reckon the TypeS is great with the new equipment it packs (MP3/ 6 CD changer, leather interior, sunroof, 17inch mags, revised suspension..) Not to mention it has 154kw @ 8000rpm only 8kw short of the JDM TypeR. But it has definitely packed on a few kilos. The only downside i can think of atm is the steering as it has been commented the Integra TypeR DC5 has terrible steering feel. Might have improved though. Let me know of your impression on the TypeS when you do test drive it will ya? Zee
  10. Sorry to hear that Craig, hope everything turns out okay and she will be as good as new! :) Hope to see good dyno outputs from your Stivo, which i hope will give you some form of consolation ;) Zee
  11. Hey SILVABULLIT, i'm sure we are all cool :D Its only a car we are talking about here! :P For those who are thinking of giving up on the Stivo due to the gearbox problem, i would recommend you hold off for a little longer and try to get the issue fixed via Toyota (which i doubt, but worth a try). Trading it in have also crossed my mine but unfortunatley 2nd hand car values have plumetted in the past couple months and my bank account is not fat enough for my desired car. I can only suggest to get a new clutch and/or flywheel as the stock clutch sucks anyway, and i believe that "should" solve the problem (Just ask the guys who have replaced the clutch). If the problem disappears i am sure most of us will keep the car for many years to come as the car is still a lot of fun, and great for tuners. Zee
  12. I only hope for my gearbox to stay intact long enough till i purchase my next car. I don't know how long it will last from the gears crunching "once in a while". My mates that sit in my car wonder why i bang the limiter so often when trying to impress and you all know the stock 2ZZGE doesn't sound as nice when revved past 7800rpm (sounds like sh*t sometimes) but that is the only way i can shift properly to attempt to land LIFT. If i don't do that there is 0% chance of me landing above 5500rpm 1st-2nd. Adding on what Shao said, it is very disappointing as high revving cars need a good gearbox and shifter to exploit the full potential. But as most of us believe the problem lies in the clutch/flywheel assembly. A truck driver can shift quicker than a Stivo driver when the shifter jams <_<
  13. I really dont understand what you are suggesting. Oh by the way, I dynoed 162whp up from 154whp and 117 torque up from 113. Are these good numbers? The car feels like a beast. The Acceleration and sound is awesome. The dyno guys said that my power should be higher since they cannot properly simulate the wind force I get while driving. I'm happy. B) ← Hi mate, I think Peekay was trying to advise you to get a K&N pod filter instead of using the TRD pod that came with it as it is a pain when you need to remove it for cleaning etc. Good to hear you are happy with the CAI :) Zee
  14. Pillion on a Kawasaki ZX750R, nearly fell off the bike when i underestimated the G-force. The adrenaline rush on a bike is unbelievable.
  15. it was 15.### but he was way behind me :P ← Shao was in poor form that day :P
  16. What time did Shao post in that drag?
  17. But rev limited to 8000rpm :( , not like it needs the 9000rpm limit with more torque and power produced at much lower revs. I love that car, was tempted by a 2nd hand selling for $38K :P
  18. Got to find out what he has under his bonnet first, might be something real interesting :P
  19. Hey mate have you considered a motor swap, maybe to a 2ZZGE? The Echo would be a bloody sleeper and it will fly!! Zee
  20. Congrats on a great car purchase mate! For high revving N/A RWD the S2000 is still my pick with 9000rpm redline and the sweetest gearbox i have ever touched. But i feel that its overpriced at $80K. I have a Best Motoring DVD of the RX8 testing it thoroughly. The JDM S2000 is actually quicker than the RX8 in every aspect but for $20K less the RX8 is better money spent. The RX8 has a very tall 3rd gear doesn't it because that is where the JDM TypeR (162kw) and S2000 reeled in. But its still a bloody quick car. Didn't you consider 350Z? Its quicker than S2000 and RX8 but the engine is ordinary to drive, only revs to 6600rpm. It also has too many computer gadgets assisting the car's performance which makes the car boring to drive. The S2000 is a better car for driving enthusiast that like full steering, throttle and brake induced vehicle control, its raw with much better response. But that also means a better driver is required for the S2000. People have been killed in it because of its notorious oversteer when pushed hard. How did Peekays Stivo fair against your RX8 stu :P
  21. I am interested and will most probably turn up, can't confirm yet. Should be a great meet :)
