  1. That **** doesn't make any sense. They rate each category between 1 to 5 (which is therefore categorical and not continuous numerical data) and then rate the cars using an arithmetic mean. The most telling statistic would be the median value, on which the Sprotivo ties for 2nd with the XR6 T behind the equal 1st contenders (WRX and Cooper S)... I put their "top" 5 cars in an Excel spreadsheet (which it won't let me attach), and my weighted scores don't average as high as theirs. Anyway, I'll email it to anyone who's interested and we can try and sort out how they calculate their score.
  2. Its the TRD CAI
  3. heheh. just noticed your sports muff.
  4. How about I PM my name to you and you can add it to the list. I just don't want my name associated with any posts I may have made in the past about potentially illegal activity (e.g. speeding). You never know who's reading these threads... :D
  5. Welcome! I too was going to mention the holes in the intake in your 2nd photo - I noticed them when I installed my CAI. It must undo some of the good done by insulating and sound-deadening the rest of the pipe if you just drill some random holes in after the restriction, right? One other avenue I thought of is to leave the stock pipe, but to attach a hose to the flat circular part that sits above the hole in the rail. of course, you'd need to cut into the plastic first, but it would be an almost free way of increasing the air flow. Although, it would still be limited by the restriction further down the pipe. Maybe the CAI is the only way to fly!
  6. You mean the muffler? It should do, as they are available from Toyota dealers for the 1zz models. The springs on the bolts provide tension, so the exhaust doesn't rattle and vibrate the bolts loose....
  7. According to Bruce's website the TRD flywheel weigh 4.4 kgs - Is the TOMS one that much lighter?? What's the stock one weigh? I'm now considering LSD (top of my list), clutch and flywheel as my next mods. In a year or two I'll go with extractors and Unichip I think. I've definitely got the modding bug!
  8. Sounds like crap. No mention of pressure achieved or dyno results for power/torque. What's it cost? My scepticism stems from the fact that we all know how big and heavy turbo and superchargers need to be to achieve adequate boost pressures. So how is this tiny thing going to achieve anywhere near the pressure required to make any difference to an engine? If this is all that it took, why wouldn't manufacturers have been doing this all along?
  9. Blade, glad to hear you are still one of us. Just one thing though, my car doesn't rev like that.... where's lift and the rev limit gone?
  10. I know I'd rather drive Simon's than Leanne's car..... but it's not really a Corolla anymore, is it? Anyway, I'm supporting Leanne but there's no way Ambrose won't win it again this year, I reckon....
  11. C'mon guys and gals, let's support the only female on the list of nominees, and who - gave the Sportivo its first race win this year in the APCC finished 3rd outright won Class C http://www.cams.com.au/content.asp?PageID=About&ObjectID=671
  12. I pay about $580 with AAMI, lifetime rating 1/full NCB, but I thought I couldn't pick the repairer... I was with CGU for about $600/year, but they cancelled my cover just for INQUIRING about mods!! AAMI allows any 3 mods as long as they are street legal (which the strut brace is, but the CAI isn't apparently).
  13. I return from OS and take Silver into the lead! Greetings all, and welcome to the seeming horde of newbies...
  14. Bugger that. Got a piccy of yourself?? :)
  15. my front calipers are painted red... and danthuyer's avatar roxors
  16. Or, do what I did, and borrow one.... The newer ones are even sweeter - self-levelling with a lot more onboard measures. They are pretty accurate too - probably within a percent or two of a proper timed run.
  17. Hmmm, not true. Northpoint Toyota (SA) has had one on their lot for 4 months, awaiting recall parts. Was still there on Friday, waiting for an owner. Maybe not as new as yours, but still a silver "old style". Rang them, Build 2003, Compliance 2004. OK, I stand corrected. I was however just repeating what one of the (obviously lying dirtbag) sales guys told me last Friday - that the car on their lot was 4 months old (i.e. complianced around May). Clearly that car has been kicking around longer than he suggested. Anyway, I'm all for people upgrading every 6 months. Keep up the good work.
  18. Bah!! That "reviewer" is a clown. But look at the positive side: More SP23's on the road to destroy.

  20. Got my car back last night from recall and 10K service ($123). I love South Australia... G-tech timed runs pre recall the best I managed was 8.0 flat, with a full tank of gas and a smooth repeatable run. I didn't use high revs to launch or slam through the gears, as wheelspin or missed shifts are hard to replicate and therefore compare between runs. Hopefully I'll have some post recall times today or tomorrow and then next week, post recall + CAI reinstalled. I'm confident of equalling the 7.7 mark at least...
  21. Peekay, with your envious list of current and planned mods, any desire to install an LSD? That is my most desired after piece of hardware....
  22. Do I even have to write anything...?
  23. Dude, I was just asking. Didn't know you were a mechanic sympathiser :)
  24. If I wasn't convinced before (even though I was..) that the CAI gave noticeable power, then I am now the stock airbox is back in. I've lost a whole heap of "urge" - I guess I almost know now how Peekay feels without his Unichip BTW, the recall and 10K service are being done this Friday. Before and after that, I will be doing some G-Tech timed runs to gauge the difference on my car. Sorry guys, no way can my budget stretch to dyno runs...
  25. OK, this has had me flummoxed ever since I got my first EFI car. How exactly do you "tune" an EFI car, when the ECU controls advance timing, fuel delivery and ignition? What exactly do we pay the mechanics for, other than plugging their hideously expensive diagnostic machines into our cars and poking at the belts and filters?
