  1. $400 a pair. Got all 4 rotors and pads from my local brake specialist in Fawkner. Pm me if your 100% interested.
  2. The purpose of using yellow lenses for skiing and dirt bike riding is to better see the bumps and humps outlines on the snow and dirt surfaces respectively. Also at raves, you can wear coloured or tinted sunnies to filter direct flashing lights especially when the strobe lights goes spastic when the music peaks. Using Iridium coated lenses (Gold, blue, silver, etc) on helmets for sun glare, allows the wearer to ultimately filter UV rays as well as reflect direct sunlight. It is a better alternative to tinted polarized lenses. Don't use any of these lenses at night.
  3. The reason why it's only been recently reported of Apple's extended power over the functioning of their products, is probably due to their own legal proceedings in court, since God knows how long... So maybe there lies your answer to your questions why Apple hasn't been able to remotely shutdown JB iphones in the past. Just like the marketing gimmick for the iphone 4 prototype. It was "supposably lost" by one of their staff at a bar, but knowing that new phones competing against the iphone 4 will be released at the same time as its predetermined launch, it made consumers stop and wait for the new iphone 4 to hit the shelves. It hit the news headlines and what was good about it was that Apple didn't have to fork out money for advertising and marketing expenses like other brand labels had to. Even, with the reception flaws, consumers still wanted the iphone 4 purely for the same reason as iPod buyers back then bought an ipod. It was a new toy from Apple with a new design. kenshin - you have a JB iphone, so this concerns you. secaboy - you have both an iphone and ipad, not sure if its JB or not, but if it is, then it concerns you. I'm 100% certain that Apple, a company of that size is aware of its OS flaws... but maybe they just hide it better than MS. Guni - you say you prefer the Android platform, I'm assuming you have a Samsung Galaxy S. If you do thats great, because its a pretty good PDA phone. It purely sh*ts over any other Windows Mobile PDA phones out there in the past and now as well as the slow as F**k HTC HD2 released a few months ago. But here lies the underlying fact, that iphone buyers buy the iphone not because its got the best functions, etc... they buy it because its the new iphone. Pure and simple. Btw... on the link there is a section below the news article that allows you to make your above comments, so why not direct your "APPLE" questions there instead.
  4. I've got the red illuminated scuff plates. BKS had installed them when he owned the car, but never got around to wiring them up. I would assume they are held down with double sided tape too.
  5. Would there be a problem if the scuff guards are already stuck on the car?
  6. From Sept 1, 2010, Melburnians can wash our cars at home with a bucket or a high-pressure water saving hose. Vic water restrictions
  7. Concerns jailbroken iphone users Apple's remote shutdown program
  8. oh man, I hate your drive way lol... I can't angle my car down it because of the kerb and its dropped another 25mm since I was there last time. My soldering skills is upto standard, but as for splicing wires - thats another story. :P When it's sunny and I've got a day off work, i'll give ya a buzz to see if your free.
  9. Was it easy to do Duy? I'm not confident in installing the transponders myself. Transponders are sleeping in the box that BKS had given me when i took the snail of his hands.
  10. What I was trying to get at is what is already stated in your link although science will state otherwise now. "So, why do yellow fog lamps seem to work better? It's because of the way the human eye interacts with different colors of light. Blue and violet are very difficult for the human optical system to process correctly. They are the shortest visible wavelengths and tend to focus in front of our eyes' retinae, rather than upon it." Also from your link above is this: Bullough & Rea's Study From the Abstract Although evidence exists to support the claim that yellow light can be perceived as less “glaring” or “distracting” than white light of equal luminance, it is not clear whether backscattered light of different colors are differentially effective for driver comfort or for driver performance. From the Discussion Although the results of the present study are consistent with recommendations for using yellow lamps for perturbed atmospheres, the difference in s/p ratio between conventional tungsten-halogen lamps and yellow-filtered lamps is small, and therefore suggests that yellow-tinted headlamps would have only a small impact on performance or on subjective ratings. However, filters currently used in such lamps are not designed to optimize both transmittance and s/p ratio. It is possible to design a yellow or amber filter for a halogen headlamp that results in a higher transmittance and a lower s/p ratio than those used on existing products. Such a lamp-filter combination would need to have a low s/p ratio and relatively high photopic transmission to provide measurable performance benefits. Of course, tungsten-halogen lamps are not the only viable technology available for automotive forward lighting. High-intensity discharge headlamps based on metal halide (MH) lamp technology are currently being sold on a number of automobile models[32]. The SPDs of MH lamps depend upon the concentration and chemistry of various halide mixtures that are added into the lamp's arc stream[33]. The correlated color temperature (CCT) of such lamps can range from less than 3000 K to over 7000 K. Estimates from MH headlamp manufacturers indicate that such systems produce twice the lumens as a halogen headlamp system of equal wattage[32]. The s/p ratios of several commercially available MH sources range from about 1.5 to 2.0[33], in comparison to a halogen headlamp's s/p ratio of around 1.5. While MH lamps alone do not seem to offer advantages over conventional headlamps with respect to their s/p ratio, their higher light output relative to halogen lamps means that such headlamps could perhaps be used with colored filters, providing low s/p ratios that would be less visually distracting than that from a halogen lamp while still having greater light output. Moreover, the chemical mixture of a MH lamp could be adjusted so that the s/p ratio could be greatly reduced. From the Conclusion "The s/p ratios of currently available yellow-filtered headlamps do not differ enough from conventional halogen headlamps for this effect to be significant in practical situations, but the design of filters that optimize both transmittance and s/p ratio might result in yellow- or perhaps orange-colored light that would provide a measurable benefit under perturbed atmospheric conditions."
  11. If your referring to foggies, ask yourself: Q:Do I want my car to look good? A: Go get 12000K bulbs. OR Q:Do I want to be able to see through the fog better whilst driving? A:You cannot have red foggies (largest wavelength that can be seen with the human eye) as it is illegal. Therefore, the next best thing is the yellow/amber which is legal.
  12. A question was raised to me last year. "Does porting the headers effectively convert the corolla sportivo from a 1.8L to a 2.0L?"
  13. Proven to be BS/old wives tale etc. It has more to do with illumination and the eye recognising differences in colour than it does actual penetration of the fog (all visible light penetrates fog the same amount, you need to increase wavelength massively (ie so it is the same order of magnitude as the size of the water droplets) for there to be any sort of colour-specific filtering/scattering effect. The purpose of foggies is to reduce the glare that is reflected back at the driver from fog as the light is dispersed at a different angle to that of the headlights. The yellow colour does a better job at reducing some of the blinding glare compared to white light when it is reflected from the moisture in the fog. Yellow light has the longest wavelength after red lights and that is why yellow foggies appear to cut through fog. The yellow hue is used as a saftey precaution as it is not as blinding as white foggies towards oncoming traffic. PS. Have you tried driving in the snow+low visibility with white foggies compared to yellow foggies? I find that yellow foggies does a better job.
  14. It's prob better to install an aftermarket switch for the LEDs. Because, if you hook the LEDs on the same switch as the stock DRLs, the LEDs would still be on if you wanted to flick on your foggies.
  15. I think the reason why foggies have a yellow tinge to them is because they cut through the fog a lot better than white beams of light which gets refelcted back from the fog. However, if your just adding LEDs to brighten up the foggie surround to a more whiter colour, you should be ok as this will not affect the purpose of the foggies at all. As long as the LED ain't a coloured bulb for instance a red, blue or green, etc, then it should be legal.
  16. I think you should put forward a formal complaint to the QLD consumer affairs - automotive department, if the dealer is refuses to replace your burnt out Kluger for a brand new one, not just a new engine. It's their fault, so why should you pay for it and be ripped off. It would be reasonable for a consumer to accept a replacement new engine if it had broken down after a year or so (under warranty) with no fault to the driver or to the dealer. But having no oil in the engine from when you picked it up, should prompt them to replace it with a brand new Kluger. Pure case of negligence on the dealer's behalf. The dealer would lose hands down in court or with consumer affairs/ACCC.
  17. It's got nothing to do with the alignment if the steering wheel starts shaking from 100kms onwards. This is purely a balancing issue just as Spillzee stated earlier. Tell the Kmart dude to balance it above the 140+km. They get lazy and sometimes only balance tyres upto the minimum required as it saves them time. If it still vibrates whilst braking after doing the above, then get your rotors machined. If your rotors were warped in the first place, you would feel both the brake pedal and steering wheel will shake/vibrate whilst braking.
  18. Does the Hilux have a choke stick? It's inside the cabin on the drivers side. It's a manual idle speed adjustmentused for when starting your engine when its cold. It increases the engine rpm above normal speed depending on how far you pull it, allowing the engine oil to circulate throughout the engine. Once the engine has warmed up, you push back down the choke stick. My dad's old ('97 model) Mazda work van had it as well as my '00 model Yamaha R6. But I think later model vehicles have it automated. I think my corolla does the same thing when its started when the engine is cold and when its warmed up the rev automatically drops down to normal idling speed.
  19. The GREEN ballot paper Vote for the party you would like to come into government - holds majority of seats in the House of Representatives (lower house). The WHITE ballot paper Vote for the party you would like to have a significant impact in the Senate (upper house) on the review of government policies/Bills. Minority parties usually hold the balance of power in the Senate, so they have the power to either let the proposed Bill by the government be passed or be rejected. (Eg. The recent 'Mining Tax' Bill proposed by the ALP - rejected by the Senate). These parties tend to swing their favour for either the coalition or the ALP depending on how sound/fair the Bills are. If it is rejected the first time, the government in the lower house may make amendments according to what the upper house dislikes about the Bill. If the government chooses to put forward the amended Bill and is rejected again by the Senate, then that’s when the government will be dissolved and another election would take place. Simply, whoever holds the majority of seats in the Senate will ultimately have the power to say 'yes' or 'no' to the government’s decisions for our economy. Imo, the white ballot paper is what counts to me the most. Hope my 2cents helps those of you are stuck in the grey area. Sometimes its not easy as choosing Black or White .
  20. hehe... did they set the dampening rates for you or did you set them according to your requirements? Just make sure, you don't force click when you reach the max or min setting. The info sheet states that if you do it, it will be damaged. So count your clicks ;) BTw, is your back aching yet from the bumpy roads in our area? hehe
  21. Tom, did you mean 20 clicks from softest or 10 clicks away from hardest setting?
  22. I strongly agree to this too. Greens generally lean towards the ALP and the Family first party leans towards the Coalition (Liberals & Nationals). But the other independant parties will swing either way depending on which party talks the least BS than the other. It's better to make an informed decision rather than making a donkey vote.
