  1. I'd say Adamsy is right. Everyone has their own thoughts about what 'street cred' could be defined as. Sure enough you can take a basic everyday car, put some nice wheels on it, lower it, and do some subtle styling mods and you can turn it from a basic car to something wit ha bit of style. But to me, that's not really what defines street cred. Not that I use the term because that is just so 'Fast and the Furious', but if you were to ask me, I would say street cred with respect to a car is how well the car is designed in terms of style and performance just how it left the factory. It's like how I would define a woman's real beauty not by how well she looks in makeup, but how she looks without. Generally such cars would be of the expensive variety (like your Audi's etc), but for the more cost efficient choices, nothing really beats a quality Japanese import.
  2. If you were to ask my opinion, I would say you would be crazy to not have full comprehensive insurance on a car that has some value to it. You just never know what might happen. For example, my last Sportivo was written-off with the accident having me at fault due to the circumstances. At the time I had written it off, it was insured for 2 years. Total cost of insurance over these two years was $1350. Considering that it payed off $30,000 in the end (after the $1000 deduction for excess), in my circumstance, I didn't loose a single cent as a result of the accident. If you have a beater though, then fire and theft may probably be all you ever need, but it comes down to you at the end. Even with a car of value, if you personally think that you can manage to take on the risk, then you can go without comprehensive. I wouldn't say you are a <colourful language>, but to call you crazy would be acceptable.
  3. I think you also need to be a bit more specific as well unique. Personally, if I was asking the question, I would be asking for cars that come stock with said 'street cred' or don't require much work to get to that point. For example, I would say a stock Supra or R34 Skyline holds a fair bit of street cred as it is... despite how common they are already.

  5. If you are after a car with good street cred, in my opinion, you are going to have to make sacrifices in terms of fuel economy, room, and features... and to a lesser extent, price. You can't exactly have everything you want. If you want to satisfy all those categories, you will have to make sacrifices on street cred. It's as simple as that really. But if you were to try and satisfy all those categories, then I would say that a Sportivo Aurion 2nd hand would be up there. Also, I moved this tread to somewhere more appropriate.
  6. No street cred . Such an idiotic statement to make when you alone picked a Camry. Go hang with your 'Fast and the Furious' crew then. When you hang around people who actually know a thing or two about cars, then you will find that the Aurion is quite a credible car in what it can do considering the market it is aimed for... especially when it runs 14.2s 1/4 miles and 1:08 around QR.
  7. Off topic but on topic, you can not be too anal with protecting your car when driving through a locust plague. I had them wedged in every possible nook and crannie. Even between the A/C condenser and radiator. Learn from my bad experience.
  8. Wouldn't this just add to the confusion of giving directions by numbers? Tourists will start getting all levels of lost if you send them off exit 8, without realising that a new exit now exists between 7 and 8, so exit 8 is now exit 9, and the new exit 8 leads somewhere else entirely. At least by saying "take the Airport exit" you'll send them to the airport, regardless of whether its exit number 8, 9, 12 or 67. This Vic Roads idea is the same as our M3 here where the exit number refers to the kilometres away from the CBD. This is why there was the joke about adding an exit between two of them. So in the case of the above, exit 8 will always be exit 8.
  9. I don't entirely believe that Daryl, because the Deception Bay exit is 135 (or close to) and the Smith Street (Southport) is 64 or something close to that... It's an honest mistake okay. I was referring to the M3 not the M1. On the M3, the exit number refers to distance from the CBD. On the M1, it is the distance to the QLD/NSW boarder. See what I mean about putting numbers to roads. Grrrr.

In all honesty though, yes I do agree that it is a little slack of them in a way considering technology should allow them to make more accurate speedos, but I also don't think it's much to get fussed about. At the end of the day, the speedo in your car is not intended to be a precision measuring instrument. As long as it doesn't read over, then the reading it provides is not dangerous so to speak and is therefore not a problem to the manufacturer. As well as that, if you were to complain that it was out by 5-10%, you have to think... what is it that you gain from complaining about it? The fact that you are loosing a few minutes or so every hour of driving because you don't get to your destination when you could potentially do so? Realistically, any lost time in travelling a small amount under the limit will not have any big effect on your life. Yes that is a bit of a rant, but I just like to look at it from the point of view that if your speedo was to read 99& accurate, then what do you really gain?

  13. I guess I haven't driven enough on Melbourne roads to tell if this would really be that useful. When you have such a 'complex' road network like that (as well as in Sydney), having the addition of this exit number would probably add more confusion for interstate drivers. I remember when Queensland Transport introduced exit numbers for the M1 where the exit number represented how many kilometres away from the CBD the exit is. Up to this day, I still have not once utilised the exit numbers when giving direction.
  14. I think you have confused electric assisted power steering with drive-by-wire (DBW) technology. The steering on the Rav4 there you refer to is just like normal power steering where the steering wheel is physically linked with the wheels. The only difference is that instead of using a hydraulic pump setup to assist with turning the wheels, an electric motor does the helping. On that topic, electric assisted power steering is a fair bit lighter than its hydraulic counterpart. It surprised me the first time I drove a hybrid Camry because I really didn't expect an electric motor used for PS to be quite strong.

  16. Running it in my a55. Probably cooking the clutch . That's just my jealousy speaking. I'm not a fan of small cars though, so even though it would probably be wicked to drive, it's just not my thing. Still hate her though. Plus I just hate Ford for personal reasons. That said, I'd love a Ford GT or Mustang.

  18. Technically not cheating: Besides, my N/A Aurion was mostly filled with 98RON and it still had worse fuel consumption than the TRD. The power of the 2GR-FZE seems more suited to the weight/size of the car than the 2GR-FE. I think because of that, it can carry its weight with more ease and be more fuel economical. What I also do as well to ensure my rough numbers are as close as possible to each other is whenever I fill up, once I get the first 'click', I remove the nozzle, wait about 10 seconds, put it back in again and pump till it clicks one more time. After that, I just round to the nearest $0.05.
  19. I'll be happy to take up to 3 extra passengers. Since this is going to be a highly responsible mountain run (unlike the ones where it is led by the younger generation), the extra weight in the TRD isn't going to hurt. Steven... you are welcome to ride shotgun.

Well my pile of receipts which I haven't entered into my spreadsheet was starting to get bigger in size, and seeing that there was another thread regarding fuel consumption, I figured I may as well do this again. Oh noes though. My fuel consumption has increased by 0.2l/100km over the last 12,000km or there abouts. Either way though, it sure beats what my last Aurion was doing around the same point in it's life (was getting about 11.66L/100km after driving the last Aurion approximately 29,000km). TRD Fuel Consumption (Excel Spreadsheet) - At 5313km, my total fuel used was 500.99L and my average fuel consumption was 9.43L/100km - At 9532km, my total fuel used was 909.91L and my average fuel consumption was 9.55L/100km - At 17650km, my total fuel used was 1685.71L and my average fuel consumption was 9.55L/100km - At 29083km, my total fuel used was 2837.00L and my average fuel consumption was 9.75L/100km
  23. In my opinion, unless you have the money to get it filled (which they rip you off with these days) or you can get it filled cheap, then I would just leave them and bear the nuisance. Otherwise, if you had the money to blow on getting it filled at normal costs, then a new windscreen would probably be the better option. At that size/depth, it shouldn't become a crack or a solid chip, but some crazy stuff happens out there. This is where if you are getting close to your insurance renewal, just live it out till then, add the windscreen repair option for like $40-$50 extra, then after a couple of months, aim to get it to chip seriously in the irreparable area. Then you get a cheap new windscreen. Even if you are like 10 months away from renewal, if you can bear the nuisance, then do that. Then proceed to remove windscreen option the following year Off-topic: Gotta love the close-up feature of the Cyber-Shot T-Series hey? Pretty useful for things like that.

  25. Depends on the springs. Some can be symmetrical so fitting upside down will not present any issues. Others are not symmetrical and will result in the top and bottom not sitting in the proper position on the strut. This can present some safety issues. By the way, from the image you posted on FB, it would visually look like you have fitted the springs back to front (or had the wrong springs fitted) because personally, something doesn't look right with this image. But that is just from looking at the image. It could just be a bad angle:
