The steering wheel controls share a common bus and work by varying the resistance. If you want to utilise the existing components there, you will need to have your axillary device tap into the existing controls and then read the resistance values from there. It's not as simple as just opening an closing a switch if you get what I mean. This should give you an idea of how it all works. The wiring is there on both sides (EAU, AU1, and AU2), the only thing that is missing on those that don't have the on/off hook button etc are the buttons and the appropriate resistors:

It does come from the exhaust and the smell can manage to make it's way into the cabin. Usually though you only may get this when your windows are down. That said, the Aurion isn't exactly what I would call sealed from the elements when you have the windows up and A/C on recirculate. My last Aurion used to do this sometime, but it eventually went away. I more suspected the fuel. Anyways, smells can 'travel' rather easily. If you've ever sat at a set of lights where the guy in front of you is smoking, you can even pick up on the smell of that when you are just sitting there in your car. I'm guessing that it's probably just the way the Aurion is designed that allows some of that exhaust smell work it's way forward towards the windows on the car. Either way, as bad as it may seem, I wouldn't suspect an exhaust leak.

What did you do to your car today?
DJKOR replied to JustinW's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
Today (last night an hour or so ago), I took my car to Hoppy's and gave her a good cleaning. It's not that though which is the reason for my posting. I guess what you could say that I did with my car is use it to attract some attention. As I was there drying her off to a brilliant shine out the front of the place, it happened to grab the attention of a fellow by the name of Tony who was driving by in his Avalon. We had a bit of discussion about the TRD etc and I later learnt that he has a 3500SL as well which is Build Number 0012. Amongst all the discussion, I also learnt that the official figure was a total of 624 TRD Aurions built, not the 614 or so that I originally thought. So we had a good discussion and I told him about the forums (pointing out the details on the sticker stuck to my window), so we may be expecting a new member soon. -
Love to see how long you would last out in the hood before getting rolled.

Off topic... I was actually considering being one of those Green Cabs riders around the city on a Friday/Saturday night. Would be a great way to get fit.
-
Liar Mick. You didn't spot me . Well then, at around 8:15am this morning on the Centenary Highway, I spotted some sus looking Vitz with a pedobear sticker on the rear and with some plain looking steelies.

Chance to vent about idiotic drivers
DJKOR replied to 2008camrydriver's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
Couple of months ago? I need whatever time-speeding-up device you have. That was nearly a year ago that happened. -
I'm just about to put them on . On the bright side, I don't have a sugar craving for the time being. Edit: Big LOL at your sig mate.

NOS isn't a big thing over here in Australia. About the only talk that really happens involving NOS is when people bring up 'The Fast and The Furious'. Good luck on your endeavour though.

I wasn't kidding about the food coma. Hit the bed when I got home around 6pm and didn't wake up again until 11:30pm, and at that time I was still tired enough to just continue sleeping until about 30 minutes ago. Feeling mighty thirsty now.
-
+ 1 on that one. Too many u-turns etc. And damn my stomach still feels like it is going to explode. Food coma starting to settle in now.
-
I so want one. Key word being want though. I'm no the type of person to own two cars so am I willing to chanel from a larger car? Decisions decisions. On a side note, I would find I quite funny if you managed to pop the bonnet only to find no engine in there, or something just enough to move the car around.
-
I can pick you up if you would like?
-
Well, change of plans for me. I will see you bitches there.

What did you do to your car today?
DJKOR replied to JustinW's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
^ 3 door Landcruiser.... something just isn't quite right As for me, I haven't really done anything to my car lately. About the only thing I have done is taking advantage of the crisp cold air at night and giving her a good hard drive because the supercharger just loves it. -
I personally would have still left the front engine mount connected to the vacuum line, but if you're fine with it that way, than okay then.
-
When you get rid of your stock airbox, you can connect the vacuum hose direct to the plenum without the need of the one-way valve. The purpose of that valve was just so the intake butterfly would stay open under low vacuum conditions.

I was grouping this with the other post I made, but I would just like to isolate my comments in that case. Anyways: As much as it's good to get some moderator action, a situation like this is one where it may not be a bad idea to keep the post/s there. A little banning I can agree with, but it's come to the point now where what's done is done and keeping the posts here in this thread won't do anyone any harm. I completely agree with you there mate. One thing I find funny is when you have a look at those that race on the track. You frequently see times that give proof that having huge amounts of power doesn't necessarily mean you can go fast.

Windows Fogging up
DJKOR replied to Rolla & Sao Boy's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
I never really get the fogging up issue because I always have my windows down a slight amount when the heater is on. I'm a bit of an odd one. I have my heater on full bore in winter (or on cool summer nights) and I use my windows to regulate the temperature. Too hot, I put them down more, too cold, vice versa. I do find the heat to be more 'humid' than dry, but I can't really comment on what causes this. It could just be the way it heats the air or maybe it is just better at picking up the moisture in the air. -
If I had to work with what I got, I would just choose to split the two RCA's. It will make for some loss, but it would be marginally less than using the high-to-low level converter.

Wow. Words fail me. I'm away from the forums going about my job (as you do) and I miss out on this. Don't get your knickers in a twist there Supra. You were only getting back the types of responses one would expect to get from a forum when about the only thing they come to say is how good their car (or type of car) is. As for "shootin ppl down for there comments bout recalls", do you have a sense of the English language? That was nowhere near 'shooting the OP' down for their comment. Telling them to "no need to get worried" is not harsh, and saying to "Read the reports properly and then do a little research" is telling them the importance of reading things thoroughly instead of jumping to conclusions. Who are you to tell me what to do with my life... bitch. You so made me feel bad calling me a nerd/keyboard warrior and all... not. Seeing posts like that with you saying how you have a life and friends, blah blah blah only just makes me laugh harder since once again you are trying to make yourself seem more superior for the sake of talking someone down. Sure I've spent a lot of time on the forums here, but I work in an IT industry where access to a computer is fairly commonplace for most of the day. Anyways, I don't need to go on about my life because quite frankly, I know you don't give a s***. I did race a Supra (for times) from a set of lights. I think you missed the point of my discussion on your other post:

DJKOR answered that question here: http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17787 Second last post. I'm not sure if that would be related to the question at hand. My answer there was only in reference to those plastics used in cars that are further covered in a foam/vinyl combination as per the question in that thread. The production efficiency is a cost and time saving as a plastic only trim doesn't require anything else done to cover it apart from paint where necessary. I kinda lost you there Wixy on your discussion. I have a rather simple mind. So what is it that should be considered when purchasing a new car?
