  1. awesome looking stivo you've got there, mate good to see she's back to her former glory
  2. as superdave has mentioned, the lightweight flywheel does have less inertia. therefore, you will need to rev a little bit more driving up hill, and give it a bit more on take off. apart from that, you do get used to it (i've got one in mine). definitely makes for quicker revving, thats for sure.
  3. i've spotted the 'mytivo' car a few times as well around the yan yean/whittlesea area.
  4. if you go to the effort of replacing the clutch, may i recommend you get an extended clutch slave cylinder pushrod. this will help the clutch to completely disengage, thus greatly reducing the liklihood of grinding.
  5. i've got an mwr ultralight flywheel in mine, and its definitely a good investment if youre getting the clutch done at the same time. just remember to get new flywheel bolts as well. the genuine toyota ones are fine to use with aftermarket flywheels check out monkey wrench racing
  6. good stuff mate! funnily enough, my engine mounts havent popped out at all. but mine are actually black, so maybe being from a different batch theyre a slightly different compound to yours?
  7. ive got the short shifter, shifter linkage bushes and the cradle bushes. as everyone else has said, its a much more direct shift but does require a more physical strength than the standard shifter. although i'm used to it now, it was very noticable at the start. other people who have tried driving my car with the shift shifter in complain about it cause theyre weak :P

  11. i'd say thats a write off as there's some heavy structural damage. it still looks as though it would be repairable what djkor has said is pretty much bang on. however, if you have renewed your policy at least once, then double check your sum insured. insurers depreciate your sum insured in line with the glasses guide, each time you renew your cover (no one uses redbook because its ***** and inaccurate). so in short, if you had a sum insured of $20000 last year, your sum insured after renewal may be $17500 (as an example). so as previously mentioned, make sure you read your policy schedule to ensure the information is correct. because if it isnt, and you have still been paying the premium and accepted the renewal, this shows you have agreed to the current terms and will only get paid whats stated on the policy, regardless of whether your car may be worht more or less. but all this is just as an FYI. wait for the assessors call and check your policy, and hopefully it will all be ok!
  12. service history is always an important part, to ensure regular oil changes, especially for the 2zz. also listen for funny/abnormal noises coming from the tensioner pulleys (this is reknown on the 2zz corollas) and also electrical components, such as the power window regulators, erratic ambient temperature sensors for the climate control, warping plastic fascias inside the car
  13. i remember reading somewhere that the cut-out point of the rev limiter is also influenced by the type of oil youre running the engine on. i don't know the technical aspects of fluid dynamics in an engine, but it could be influenced by the oil pressure from a particular oil viscosity.
  14. the VSV hoses are blocked because theyre useless with the CAI. If you look at your stock air box, the side that sits closest to the firewall has an air flap which opens and closes according to the demand on the engine (eg, it opens on cold starts, full throttle and highway driving to allow extra air flow) because the CAI doesnt have this feature, the hoses are useless. it doesn't matter if you leave it connected. some members have reported a clicking sound slightly audible from inside the car which disappears if the VSV is removed. I personally haven't had this clicking
  15. that would probably be the fuel sender unit...make double sure all the connections were put back in properly, then it should work. unless you've managed to damage it in the changeover

  18. as a healthy discussion without any smug ...'s, you would be amazed at how road rules can be interpreted and twisted in specific circumstances, regardless of how simple, or black and white, they may appear... :P its always determined on its merits, and never exactly by the book, especially if it turns into a **** fight through the courts ;)
  19. nice cut and paste job on the road rules Azza, but i believe the question the OP is presenting is not how to stop at a traffic light, but how you can be prosecuted on it and how it is interpreted as "running the red light". legislation is open to interpretation, its not black and white.
  20. i believe it's just the synchros working overtime to prevent you from screwing your gearbox. if it's a one-off, it wouldn't have done any harm as thats the prupose of the synchros, but just don't make a habit of it!
