  1. Welcome mayhewga - nice info (and economy!) there, thanks for sharing it
  2. G'day and welcome! Our recent choice was between these two exact models you are considering matt - I could not for the life of me choose between the two, however the KX-S Kluger eventually won based on the following; - it drives like a car, where the Pajero still had that essence of 4WD about it (we already have a 4WD dual-cab ute, and this new wagon would be driven 90% by my wife, and 80% on-road). - the Kluger is full-time AWD, compared to the part-time Pajero (super-select aside). - the Kluger was also cheaper than the Pajero when similarly optioned (ie. curtain airbags & leather seats etc. which weren't standard on the VRX Paj) - resale of the Kluger should be better than the Pajero (which is based on a pretty old, albeit proven, design) The 2tonne braked capacity of the Kluger vs. 2.5tonne of the Pajero could be an issue depending on the size of the van you are considering. Also the Kluger's 19-inch wheel/tyres in the Kimberly area could be a potential liability! So far (12,000k in 4 months) I'm glad we chose the Kluger. Those above factors may or may not be relevant to you, but that's how we looked at it! Hope that's of use Cheers!
  3. Gday and welcome Speedsta - very nice Kluger There is no Kluger emblem for the front grille here in Australia, they all just have the Toyota "T" emblem Cheers
  4. Yeah, it's a trap if you don't know about it - the odometer apparently reads pretty close to spot-on, but not the speedo - go figure!!! Cheers
  5. Basically if the needle is showing 100, you're really only travelling around 93km/hr (measured by GPS) <_< There is a thread or two about it somewhere. EDIT: found one here Cheers
  6. Paul did you have any luck finding silver cross-bars? Cheers
  7. I recently did a 2600km trip up to QLD and back over two weeks and was quite pleased with the economy of the Kluger, loaded with luggage, two adults and two children (KX-S AWD, 91 RON) The best I got between fills was a very pleasing 10.8l/100km on the highway. Where we stopped and did local running around (to beach, shops etc) the economy jumped to 11.9-12.5l/100km between fills. I found the best economy for speed was at around 100-105km/hr measured by GPS. We came home via the Newell Highway, and when sitting on 115km/hr by GPS I didn't achieve below 12.3l/100, so it pays not to rush! Seeing Australia by Kluger has to be one of the most comfortable and relaxing ways to do it, there were no complaints from the kids in the back and I certainly didn't feel like I had driven as many k's each day. My only complaint is that I would like the seats to be more bolstered, as some of the winding roads highlighted how flat they are (although I was used to WRX seats prior to the Kluger) Cheers PS: could a mod please sticky this thread? I think it's worthwhile keeping at the top
  8. I would still like to get slightly larger tyres (maybe 255/55) to help fix the speedo error :)
  9. I just did my second rotation, a little late at 12,000k but I did ask my dealer NOT to do it at the 10K service. Out of interest, I measured the total tread depth on each tyre. The two tyres that had travelled 5-6,000km had 7.5-8mm of tread, the others with 12,000k on them had 6.5-7mm of tread (I had never measured a brand new tyre). I seem to be getting even wear on the fronts which is good! FWIW I run 34psi/235kpa Sam, what did you base your 60,000k prediction on? If I get 60K out of mine I'll be very happy! Cheers
  10. On my KX-S the only click I hear is from the front of the car when the AC compressor engages like JC says (it's got a magnetic clutch so is a distinct sound) - I hear no sound that comes from inside the car. Hope that helps? Cheers
  11. A CVX Kluger is the original bodyshape (MCU28R) A KX-S is the current newer bigger bodyshape (GSU40R), more powerful engine but a higher secondhand pricetag of course! Hope that helps!
  12. Just came back from a 2,700km trip to QLD and back and was surprised by all the Klugers I passed on that s***hole of a National Highway (the Pacific)... Came back down the Newell and saw a lot less. My KX-S was faultless - will make a separate thread with a trip and fuel economy report :)
  13. Welcome peedub and thanks for sharing your story - nice technique and economy results :) Cheers

    Piston Slap

Mine is definitely noisy on initial startup, but only for a second or two (I always put it down to the oil circulating). I have heard the Subaru piston slap, and my Kluger doesn't sound the same... Cheers!
  15. Nice work RR - I'll be doing a 3,000k trip in mine soon, and I hope I can achieve the same sort of economy as you mate :)
  16. Good outcome there Adrian :)
  17. Nice result there Taka, (I remember back in the days I was happy with 130kw atw on my first Forester AFTER spending money on mods!!) I agree it's running quite rich, guess there's quite a bit of safety built into the factory tune, but makes you ponder the potential possibilities Nice linear power graph too :) Cheers
  18. Nice numbers there aardvark, family is heading to QLD soon - first long roadtrip in the Kluger, so I'll be keen to see what sort of economy ours returns :-)
  19. I haven't seen any ANCAP stuff yet, but found these few from the US on YouTube which are interesting Link 2Cheers
  20. Bugger mate - I'm going to be watching mine closely now :(
  21. BK, I came across this thread today on Toyotanation which might be worth watching? Cheers
