  1. I've noticed the shell 95 isn't always available anymore.
  2. Great car. I have one as a family vehicle, and love it. You'd have my recommendation. I have 2 kids 12 and 10, and I expect this car will still fit them in 5-6 years time. When you test the car before you buy, test for this problem. Point it out to the salesman. Get it sorted as part of the deal. No fix, no buy. You might find it isn't a problem. edit: there's a trd on ebay atm... ;)
  3. Moderate road trip yesterday, 95% at highway/freeway speeds 105-120kph. Super unleaded, tyre pressures at 34psi. Calculated at 7.7 litres per 100 ks, or 13ks per litre. That'd give me a range of 900ks or thereabouts. Damn good. :)
  4. Sounds just the ticket. I might check it out. Thanks. That sounds like it'll take all day However if the cream helps the shine....should I wear terry towelling pants?
  5. What would y'all recommend for $100? I'm considering Mothers NXT. I already have microfibre cloths. I haggled with this bloke for the job, but he wouldn't throw in the used towels after the job was complete...so stuff him, I'll do it myself! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-892782202661869342
  6. A previous thread... http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=14813
  7. I'm undecided. I was using the 91 ron exclusively, but then was persuaded by previous thread discussion to try the higher octane stuff. Lucky for me the prices dropped! I'm using the 98 ron now, but will need to do a casual 600+ k run in mid Jan to provide some comparison in economy. Here's an excerpt from the Drive article. E10 doesn't get much support there hey!
  8. Controversial subject usually. There's the manual description, then there's this theory. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm Who writes the manual? Engineers, marketeers or barristeers? <_<
  9. Tint professor, Nunawading, and I s'pose their other outlets, are doing an offer now for $280. Darkest legal 35% for doors, 20% for rear widow. I came across a stall in a shopping centre and asked the person. She gave some sales garb about prices going up in 4 weeks by $100. The card she gave me has locations at Dandenong, Moorabin, Frankston, Oakleigh in the east or s/e.
  10. I asked the ebay seller if he had the blank. No answer.
  11. A Shache...What's "the exhaust mod for Aurion" you're after? Bondie has been playing and spending on his, only to conclude it didn't work well enough. Have you read his report?
  12. I'd also let them know you're also considering other manufacturers models...Honda Accord for instance. It's a competitive market...so let them compete.
  13. I followed a white Presara for a while today. Except for the slight dent in the rear bumper, it was a very nice looking vehicle. I have a blue version, and like the black it's very difficult to keep looking clean. I have had it for 4-5 months now and have given it two full washes only for fear of adding swirls! White shouldn't have that problem.
  14. I like the noise. I love the sound of a deep muffler noise, but mostly from a motorcycle like a nice Guzzi or Ducati. Yours doesn't sound anything like them of course, but it's sure a pleasant sound. How is it at 110kph on the highway?
  15. The thing is though that there must be a 'real" answer out there, that bypasses the subjectivity and emotion of the question. I tend to plonk my belief in the resources of the manufacturer. They may stuff up occasionally, but engines and petrol are at the guts of their business and Toyota does has an excellent reputation. If the engine doesn't ping under load then whatever the petrol used is ok. I guess the question we'd all like to know is what is objectively seen as the best performing when cost, mileage and performance are the variables measured. Oh, and I see this written discussion, not as an argument, but a sharing of ideas and opinions. I do feel in a minority here, as performance and appearance are less important to me than reliability and cost. I have kids and school fees to consider <_< Don't get me wrong, performance and appearance are not unimportant, but the others are further up my list.
  16. Na man, that's cool. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion for sure. I just don't like when people imply that it's a total waste of money "without giving substantial evidence to back it up" for the other side of the argument. (You're not one of them, you give good advice) It's each to their own. I think the point of the forums is to bounce ideas of people, not have people impose their will and belittle other people because of their personal choices. When the manufacturer recommends the 91ron, then the burden of proof to go to something else might belong to those supporting the diversion from the recommendation, don'tcha think?
  17. Yeah, i've gotten something around that in Perth doing a long drive up the freeway etc. Got it around 7-8l/100km with the cruise set at about 109kph. The second i got into the suburbs again the average when to **** tho. I think the 98 RON is worth it for the extra 70c to $1.50 extra per tank. 98 RON isn't exactly a budget breaker now is it... At the prices it was a few weeks back it just might've been a budget breaker. With the results you're posting I'll probably give the 95ron, then the 98ron a run eventually. I'm a tight ar$e when it comes to spending money on a car...but you probably know that!...but if the total cost isn't too different then it might be worth at try at least.
  18. I can't talk for the originator of the thread, but I'm more interested in the minimum requirements for the car to operate properly. It's a family car, not a young blokes cod...ahh, showpiece ;) Performance doesn't interest me so much...it has plenty. 2% more power for 7-10% more fuel cost doesn't add up. It may for some. Would mileage improve 7-10% with 98ron? That might have me interested.
  19. at 7.8 its obviously better than 9 on 95 so it does make a difference using 98 with a saver docket its better i got800 from one tank and it still only took 65 litres to fill The result may vary depending on driving condition such as city or high speed driving and driving habit. 9L/100k sounds like driving mostly at 80Km/H or faster. 91 also can do less than 10L/100KM when you do 100% highway driving. Also, your driving habit affects the fuel consumption. Accelating hard gives you bad fuel comsumption, of course, but if you are being like a gradma(no offence ), it even gives you 9L/100KM city(50%)+highway(50%) driving. IMO, the higher octane fuel could give you smoother and longer running distance like I stated in other reply, but more importantly, driving habit and condition affect more on fuel consumption. I might try 95 ron the next time I do the same trip. Hwy driving was most of the 600+ks, which compared to the Commodore Acclaim I had previously was fantastic. Same size tank but 150 ks better off. I'm no slouch when driving, but i don't need to go fast to get off either. I have motorcycles for that! Smooth technique without the traffic light bravado is a very efficient fuel saving technique. A teenager that gets motion sickness keeps things steady! I'd still prefer to read validated research before believing anything about using 98ron. Forums are sometimes wonderful places for excellent tips, but they can also be full of unsubstantiated subjective opinion...especially when it comes to emotional objects like cars. In the long run, it doesn't matter what you use, or how you drive when you're using it..it's your money and you can do what you think best for your circumstances. Evidence however will inform much better than opinion, or anyones seatofthepantsdyno.
  20. 91 exclusively. It was one of the reasons the car was purchased. I got less than 9L per 100k on my last decent 600+K drive. The first warning light came on at ....(around 600ks ...I can't remember) but it would've had almost 100ks left in it from memory. Well impressed. If Toyota say 91 then that's good enough for me. 98 is throwing money away. The best fuel is the one that generates the best horsepower isn't it? If that was 95, then 98 is still a waste of money. "Maybe just my imagination?" Could be mpresara, and most likely imho. Generally too much subjectivity in this sort of topic to be useful. Is there any objective correctly measured evidence out there?
  21. With the economy the way it's going, I for one would be waiting 'til January to buy. They might be giving them away by then?!
  22. ROFL!@# Wtf is that gonna do. That is going to collect a shed load of revenue, from unsuspecting drivers that think LEO's all drive performance vehicles. they're sneaky buggers. In the Yarra Valley region the bike LEO's have a few "normal" bikes with cameras on the front. They catch you in the twisties, and ride as fast as you do, filming the lot. When you pull over, so do they..."hey buddy, come and have a look at this vid"...it'll cost you $... or license, and maybe an impound of the vehicle, depending on your speed.
  23. I have genuine Toyota/Aurion bonnet and headlight protectors on my car. They were added as part of the purchase haggle. Easy to install.
