Hey Guys,

Im thinking of purchasing a Sportivo, and have plenty of time to think about it because they cant deliver a new one (new shape) until January apparently.

Just looking for general opinions, are you happy with your sportivo?

My current car is a Holden VY SS Ute (coupla mods), but I simply cant justify the expense I incur driving it every day.

Cheers

JC

If running costs vs performance is what you are after then the Stivo is absolutely the best option... Usually runs at under 10L per 100k's even when booting the thing :D , insurance is reasonable and servicing is not that expensive (some people complain but my last car was a Subaru that cost me at least $300 every service) so I'm happy.

yeah m8 i totally agree

for ya money its a way better option might not have the sound of a V8 but drive one and youll notice the power is still there.

way cheaper to run evn when using premium.

easier to park

more zippy round town

looks like a sleeper.lol goes like a slingshot.

plenty of room for a small car

resale will be much better than any holden or ford.

if youd asked me 3 to 5 years ago about owning a small car especially a corolla i wouldve laughed at you.

but all in all its by far the best car ive evr owned.

go for it mate

Welcome mate, i would say the Stivo is very good value and you would be surprised the Stivo ain't that far behind you SS ute in a straight line, provided you learn the characteristics of the Stivo engine and have good shifting skills. Obviously the V8 will chew the Stivo coming out of bends and at speeds over 120km/h but if you have spare cash available, you can turn the stivo into a feisty banzai beast that has the Toyota name and accomodation for 5. Savings in insurance premiums and petrol will probably allow you to do that.

But the car is really an all-in-one NA sports package.

Thanks for your input so far guys.

I am 99.9% sure that I will run with a Sportivo, apparently the new shape is available early Jan, so I will probably wait until then.

Is there any options on them that any of you recommend I get or stay clear of?

I will be lowering it, installing an aftermarket cat back pipe (custom stainless), a decent air filter (CAI later on) and either 17 or 18" rims.

Cheers

You should meet up with the other Stivos for cruises, will be fun. If you are getting the Stivo and have heaps of spare cash, have all TRD stuff ordered and fitted before the car leaves the dealership :D If not don't bother, most Sportivo options are expensive and i only had the rear skirt and front grille cos i like the look and i had it discounted. Lowering will certainly be good, as to exhaust there ain't a system around that will give good gains except the TRD headers = 6-8kw @ wheels. Get a UNICHIP or Apexi PowerFC, better clutch and lightweight flywheel. The car should be much quicker once you have those.

Stear clear of the exhaust for a while, unless you just want it to sound louder... it will actually lower the performance (I think Peekay is doing research into something good so check out his posts re. exhaust modification. CAI is best bang for buck mod that people have found, and itself will change the exhaust note, so is a better option.

Cheers again for the input guys.

Just curious about the exhaust comments here.

Have any of you guys had a dyno power run while you were still stock? The guy whos stivo I drove last weekend pulled 97kw at the wheels stock, and its now 109kw after the custom stainless system (cat back) and a K&N filter. Dyno runs were in shootout mode, on a DD dyno.

Is this unusual? Sorry for the continual questions, im just used to my Ute which gained 25rwkw with exhaust and another 40rwkw with a computer tune, hee hee.

Btw, found the TRD website, and I think I have just spent my next 6 months wages on mods already (in my head at least).

Cheers

I would be interested in what your mate did with the custom piping!? as various results here have only shown improvements with headers. and marginal if any with mufflers (and also backwards  )

Stock dyno's have also been between 92~ to 105kW

You too have the sportivo bug. :D as Stu's signature used to say....the stivo gets better and better each mod....which means they werent meant to be stock!!!! and its so nice of bruce and other companies help spend our hard earned money on this little rocket :P

The exhaust in question was done at Custom Exhaust Specialists @ Meadowbrook. its a custom pipe from the cat back, with a few little tricks in there, I just have to get this man computer literate, and he might post more often and give us an idea of what they changed. :D

I will see if I can get ahold of his dyno sheet too.

Kinda weird really, but I suppose, I have seen some really massive differences in stock LS1 engine outputs (up to 30rwkw variance) so I suppose 92-105kw is a good range for the stock engine.

Very interesting also, that he added a metal conditioner (roil) to his oil, and picked up 2 or 3 kw I think it was (have seen 8rwkw gain on a stock monaro too). There was a slight dip or two low in the rev range also, and they are now gone.

Its funny how I decided to buy a rolla for economy's sake, and here I am modding the thing before I have even signed on the dotted line.

Looks like its time to order me a Stivo, jesus, Im calling it that already.

kindly the guy that dyno'ed my car charged me for 3 printout's but measured it 8 times. 5 times approx 101-102 and 3 times i got 102 - 102.5. In shootout mode.

This was when it was 100% stock with only had approx 8K km's on the dial.

Cheers

Bill

p.s. forgot to mention this was pre recall upgrade and was done in 4th gear.

p.p.s for those who have been on the forum a little while u will remember the whole debate that started over power @ the wheels. I still stand by my statements which is a dyno figure is good 4 u as a measure on ur car to bench mark if mods r increasing or decreasing performance. So lets not take this thread down that path again.
