Got the quote while waiting for the new Japan only Sti wheels and Tyres to be fitted balanced and aligned :D

Have you gone ahead with the Advan ST 255/55R19's?

My local Bob Jane T Mart salesman suggested they would not be suitable. Although I a no expert on tyres, I can't see what the problem is given the OD is only 1% larger (763mm vs 756mm). Putting steering at hard lock with Bridgestone D400's leaves at least 3cm side clearance front/rear ... which suggests there is enough there to accommodate the extra width and OD of the 255/55's. However, it looks a bit tighter at the rear wheels where the inside clearance with D400's is less than 3cm ...hmmm.

Grateful for any advice.

On the rear, there's only about one finger width between strut and inside of tyre ... so that's about 20mm at best. I am guessing that putting on a 255/55 would use up 5mm of that 20mm?? Is that likely to be a problem?

Also on the rear, there is about 3cm (not 3mm) laterally from inside of tyre to the wheel arch trim. Not sure what might happen if this is reduced to, say 25mm by fitting 255/55's, and then bouncing around on rough ground. Or am I imagining a non-issue?

Yeah, but were you not one of the first Gen 2 owners? I'm just a 'Johnny come lately' with just over 20,000km on these tyres (but wearing far too quickly IMO) ... so I am looking to the likes of you to lead the way.

My wife drives ours most locally its just craked 30k after 2 years, the Tyres should be fine, just find a dealer willing to do a test fit and you should be fine, sounds like theirs enough room from your measurements

New Tire replacements are approaching faster than Xmas at 35000Kms.... I'm still very undecided would love to go the 255x55x19" Route with the Yokies but it looks like they will be over the $430ea the OEMs D400's are $375ea Then I look at cheaper tyres like Kumho's $300ea, Toyo's $325ea and Hankook RH06 @ $275.00ea and Desert Hawks "What the Hell are THEY?" at $225ea

All I can say is the D400 Have dropped in price since there are more options available to us all, still not keen on the D400's as I feel they wear out far to quickly in the city on the side edges :(

Any advice would be nice :D

I've still got a few more k's in mine at 36,000 - must be the difference between city and country driving (there has to be SOME advantage about living out here in the boondocks :lol: )

We just put a set of Maxxis HT-750's on. I have found no difference in handling or road noise over the Dunlops, and at $220 a corner they are a damn sight cheaper!

Good to hear ... but sadly of little comfort to those of us who are looking for replacement 245/55R19 tyres. Maxxis don't do this size.

Its the dam roundabouts! its the out side edges off the fronts that are gone, the reast of the tyre could do another +5000Kms

I got a new price on the Yokies they have gone to $450ea, unfortunately Im most probably going back to the stock tyres and getting a really good alignment from DAY 1

My Kluger OEM Bstone has gone to indicator soon after 43000km.

I just order from the US a set of Bridgestone Alenzas. They are rated very well in terms of wear, traction and comfort. 400 for the OEM. 600 for this tyre.

Quoted $1070 USD ($200 per tyre and $260 for shipment) which is like $1200 for 4 so $300 each. $10 per corner to put in and $70 for alignment.

I have not factored the tax if there is any but I will not buy the Toyo and Hankook which is unlikely made in Japan/Korea. They are prob made in Thailand. I just worry if I buy a set of those it will end up wearing out more quickly then OEM. I want some quality product - esp tyres.

If I want the one for the X5 and Caynenne - the Michellin Lattitude. They wear quickly and $260 US each.

For example.....on a $1660.76 Computer Network Storage device I paid......

Transport & Insurance = $143.57 (just a BS customs charge)

GST = $143.57

Processing charge = $48.85

for a total item price of $2033.61

Then they had the hide to charge me a credit card fee to pay for the all the customs charges if I didnt show up in person to pay cash.

If you can import your stuff at less than $1000 invoiced value per shipment then you will avoid all the customs crap!

I've ordered 4 Toyos. Best price I could find (in Darwin) is $400 each (fitted + balanced inc GST). keeping one of the Bridgies as a spare. Budget doesn't stretch to a set of 5 new tyres this close to christmas.

I'll be driving from Darwin to Adelaide and back again this Dec/Jan holiday. A round trip of over 6000kms. I will start a new thread and review these tyres (and blog our adventures) on this forum if anyone is interested.

My Kluger OEM Bstone has gone to indicator soon after 43000km.

I just order from the US a set of Bridgestone Alenzas. They are rated very well in terms of wear, traction and comfort. 400 for the OEM. 600 for this tyre.

I see. The standard tyre on Grande is 245/55 R19 103S. So if I manage to install 255/55 R19 103S (propely, I mean - and assuming they will fit existing rims) I'll get wider tyres... downside I'll have to buy 5, not 4. Thanks everybody for education, btw

Ok So using the above quote as an example 245 is the width of the tyre tread in mm 55 is the hight of the sidewall which is a % ratio of overall tyre width R stands for Radial 19 is the rim diameter in Inchs 103 is the load rating, which I cant remember exactly off the top of my head but it might be around 700Kg and S is the speed rating which in s's case is 180Km/h. There is a certain safty margin built into tyres so its not going to explode if you go above 180km/h but driving all day at 200+ would probably not be recommended. I would say that its possible the kluger is limited to 180km/h because if it wasnt it wouldnt have been a very wise choice putting an S rated tyre on the vehicles from the factory. The other option is they might just run out of steam at that speed? Who knows. I dont know if I would want to be doing 180km/h in an SUV. Not on Central Queensland Roads anyway.

I just saw a Kluger parked not far from my house so I naturally went for a little look to see how inferior it was compared to mine ;)

I was interested to see it had Hancook tyres fitted, 250/50/19

Has anyone done any work on compiling a definitive list of what can go on the 19" rims of the KX-S and Grande?

When I had my VS Commodore and was forced to replace the tyres but knowing I was likely to sell the car soon... I went for cheap and Hancook was it.

Does anyone know how good/bad these Hancook tyres are?

Not sure sure how good the hancooks are now, But used to have them on a Pajero SWB as my road tyres and they were pretty good.

Personally I wouldn't be putting 255/50 R19 on the kluger as the smaller diametre just compounds the speedo error.

for me the only option is to go the either bridgestone or toyo - 245/55 R19 or yokohama 255/55 R19.

obviously i know the bridgestone as current tyres at 52,000 km. got another 5000 - 10,000 kms left.

Does any one have comments on the toyo (cheapest) or the yokohama (slightly cheaper than the bridge stone).

toyo sales guy tels me i should get 80,000 kms?? is that likely with mainly highway driving?

I would appeciate any advice.

Hey!

That's great info.... the Hancook tyres reducing circumference from the current Bstone tyres even further by almost 2% can't be good for speedo accuracy.

Makes me wish I had run into the driver and asked him about them.

Will the Kluger actually fit 275 width tyres on existing 19" factory rims? That's way wide.... would look like a bl00dy BMW M5 with tyres that wide B)

I'm very curious to know if anyone has fitted the Yoks and noticed any positive effect in correcting speedo accuracy.

My Kluger has only just ticked over 33,000km and the factory tyres are close to gawn, I'd say 4-5mm left, I don't have to look hard to see the low ware indicators :(

Anyone recently change their OEM 245/55/19 tyres? Was quoted $440 per tyre for the Bridgestones. Anyone found a better price, and if so, where?
