Hi all,

I'm having a Corolla sedan 2002 with 84000 km. It really needs to have a major service. What i'm worrying is that it costs too much if i bring my car to Genuine Toyota service. As i've called to Chadstone Toyota Service, It costs $520 (includes labor cost) for the service but i'm not sure how much extra i'll have to pay for replace parts (if any). Does anyone know what exactly they will do with my car? is it worth? This is the first time i service my car since i bought it (odo 79k).

The guy who sold this car to me also didn't give the manual and log book. Is it possible to order them from Toyota? and how much?

My car also has one backlight cover broken. How much for a replacement?

:(

Thanks very much.

Welcome good to see another sedan assuming they will be doing the 80,0000 service the service book says

replace engine filter as well as air filter and spark plugs brake fluid and fuel filter including in tank filter then they will inspect drive belts valve clearnace cooling heating egine coolants exhaust battery fuel lines etc brake pads as well as parking clutch fluid power steering fluid steering wheel drive shafts manual or automatic transaxle fluid front and rear suspension tyres lights horn etc air conditioner and road test My car is a 2005 corolla sedan so the service should be similar. While your car is in for the service just ask the parts department how much to replace the backlight cover.

Ultra tune is one company that can service your car and wont affect any warranty if you have any i think they would be cheaper It could be that your car has not been serviced by a toyota dealer anyway considering the previous owner hasnt supplied you with a log book . My car has always been serviced by toyota even the 5,000 oil filter and oil change I rang ultra tune for you and using the non geniune parts for a 80, 0000 kms major service you would be looking at $470 So looking at $520 you have been quoted using geniune Toyota parts sounds ok. So really its down to personal choice whether you want toyota to do the servicing or you are happy to try another company to do your service.

HI,

i understand that service cost is very2 expensive now. i just did a major service with my corolla, costed me $440. I have a relative working as a service advisor in Toyota. He gave me a special price for the service. But for me, it is still very expensive.

My parents just bought another corolla from Total Nissan. and they said it includes a guarantee from Nissan for 3 years. They also said the only difference between a toyota service and a nissan service for toyota is that Nissan wont be using a genuine toyota parts but there will be no difference as the quality of parts that nissan is using wont be far away behind from toyota parts. Your car will run perfectly, same if u go and service it in toyota.

Nissan also informed me that if you have the warantee from them, you can go to them for the service and it will only cost you $196. FLAT! major service or minor service! FLAT COST!

Meaning toyota have been ripping us off by charging heaps of labour and parts fee!

so, its up to u to choose tho :)

Thanks guys, I'll keep in mind your suggestions. Guess I'll do service other than Toyota.

Genuine Toyota Service is the best, genuine parts are much better quality than aftermarket parts... Ofcourse you pay more but you get what you pay for...

I've seen so many aftermarket oil filters leaking cause the seals are sh!t, fuel filters not trapping all the dirt resulting in blocked injectors and so on...

Price comparisons came up not long ago and Ultratune was more expensive than Toyota and they use aftermarket parts so thats something to think about...

Toyota offers warranty on parts and labour also...

Ring around 5 - 10 Toyota Dealerships and see what prices you come up with...

hi there

any MTA mechanical workshop can service your car for its factory warranty.... its cheaper that way and most of the time if you ask them to, they are more than happy to use the genuine toyota parts....

you will find most decent mechanics use the genuine stuff anyway on newer cars.. ;)

might want to check with toyota to get something in writing about the engine warranty remaining intact if the car's serviced somewhere else with non-genuine parts.

I like dealer service stamps in my log book for the new cars I've owned, resale is better and genuine parts are better.

You should see what happens to your cooling system when green coolant is used...

close...

All the corrosion in the water galleries and pump assembly isn't pretty.

Using the geniune coolant has the system looking brand new even after 150-200,000km.

Go the corolla sedans!!!!! :toast:

i actuly change oil, filter, and spark plugs my self..

but any more then that i take to toyota..

i let them do all the belts, diff/trans, and radiator work etc..

the good thing about toyota is that it's thier car design and they will have all the perfect spec's and details on the car..

and you can also blame them if something goes wrong...
