Hey,

Sunday morning we woke up to find two of our cars with a large amount of damage due to someone losing control (assuming anyway) and plowing into them. Happened in ascot vale, melbourne.

Here's what the damage looked like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/djfumberger/

Reported it to the police but they couldn't really give much help as to suggest who was responsible.

There was blue paint left on the black holden, so we know the car was blue.

There were also parts of the car left around the place, next to the silver mazda there was a part from a front bumper labeled toyota (you can see it in the pictures next to the back tire, haven't got a better pic at the moment)

I'm trying to work out what model this might have come from, I typed in some of the parts numbers and all I really got were some toyota corolla sites in russian.

I've been checking out corolla pictures on the net and it *looks* like it's come from a Toyota Corolla Runx. Here's an example http://www.ototerminal.com/2004/Toyota/Corolla-Runx/42/. The part looks very much like that grill bit on the left/right hand sides of the bumper.

It doesn't seem that the runx is sold here (from searches I've done) so either it would be an import or I'm wondering if there are any other models of toyota or corolla that feature those grill things similar to that corolla runx ?

Anyone provide any assistance ? (I can provide more detailed information on the part when I get home if anyone wants it)

A blue facelift Corolla. Very common unfortunately. I'm at work atm, so I can't see some of the images (bar a couple...gigiddy gigiddy gig-e-deeeeee), but I'm sure some of the other guys here would agree on it being a blue facelift, given the Runx reference.

I hope you find whoever did it.

It will be very difficult to find out who hit your cars unless you have a witness. You could try going to smash repairs places or ringing and asking them if they have any damaged corollas. Talk to nieghboours see if anyone saw anything. Ring tow truck companies If the part you found has runx on it . it could mean the person bought an extra part for their corolla. The car must have extensive damage considering the damage done to your cars. Did you have insurance because at the moment i would just let the insurance company handle it. If you have a part number you could even ring the local toyota parts department and talk to them. it could just be a needle in a haystack looking for the car that did the hit and run. Also you would have to prove beyond a doubt that the car was indeed the one that hit you. Best of luck trying to track down the car.

have a look in members rides that might give you an idea on what type of car it may have been Or can you get a close up photo of the grill . I t might help members in figuring out what model Corolla it was. But at least your cars are now being fixed shame about the excess but least you havent lost your no claim bonus.

Thanks for the reply. Just had a search for the facelift corolla and it seems to have the small parking lights in the grill part. Are the variations on this ? Because the grill bit that fell off doesn't seem to feature any lights. (You'll have to excuse any ignorance, as I'm not real good on the topic of cars)

Yeah, I've tried rining about 10 - 15 body works places asking if they have seen any blue corollas come in, but nothing so far. Yeah, and next step is to ask around the neighborhood. It's on a very busy road (Mt Alexander) so I'm surprised no one has come forward saying they saw anything, though it happened between 2 am and 10 am on sat night.

We've got insurance, put the claims in and the cars are being fixed now. Though the insurance company didn't really sound as if they were going to be looking for the third party, just told us our no claim bonuses are 0% because the other person couldn't be identified.

Yep, I can see it's going to be a difficult task, I just figure if I can get as much information about the car as possible it may help in some way, especially if it was an uncommon car (though that now doesn't look to be the case). I can at least let the police know the type of car that may have been involved which may trigger something, who knows, just figure it's worth putting a little bit of effort into. We've already figured we're out around $900 for the excess on both cars, so anything more at this point is a bonus.

I'm figure *if* we could track down the car, there may be some evidence based on the damage that could put it at the scene, and whether the owner reported the crash and what their story is as far as how it ended up like that etc. But yeah, slim chances.

Thanks.

KptzS Heinz Fred let me know that it's probably an Ascent/Conquest and he's probably right. The grill looks very similar to the Ascent.

Though if anyones still interested when I get home I'll put up more a photo and more details on it.

Still leaves you with

2005-2007 Corolla Ascent, Ascent Sport, Conquest

Hah, I actually just moved onto to looking at this side as well as opposed to the grill.

I put some more pictures up that show the real lights a bit closer. - http://www.flickr.com/photos/djfumberger/2448330966/

I've again been looking out there at some pictures but can't quite match it up.. looking like a hatchback maybe ?

Also on a side note.. for a bit of fun see if anyone can figure out how the accident happened.

- The silver mazda was in front of the black holden by about 1 1/2 car lengths.

- Both parked on the same side of the road (city bound on mt alexander road)

- Looks like the rear of the corolla hit the holden (based on the rear lights being on the bonnet)

- And looks like the front left of it hit the mazdas right side (based on the front bumper grill being left next to the tired, labeled 'LH').

So how does that happen ?!

Grill will quickly tell if it is sedan or Hatch.

Chances of finding car - highly unlikely.

I dont think calling towing companies is wise, as obviously the offender drove away from the scene - i think?

Maybe he is waiting for the heat to die down, as there is no way he can go through insurance

Oh ok, I was thinking the rear lights may have given it away. I'll post that pic of the grill when I get home tonight.

Yeah they would have had to have driven away or the police would surely have known about it if they was there for any length of time.

Going to have another scan of the back streets tonight as well, just see if the car has been dumped anywhere...

meh i really doubt youll get very far with it dude there just some really ****** up people in this world and unfortunatly they somehow got licences if you found it nobody will do anything cause theres no proof it sucks i know but it sounds like either a DUI or some joyriders honesty seems to be fleeting in this world.

Hence the 'gigiddy' from yours truly.

I've sent Dongsoo out on patrol for the car. He'll find him with his epic drifting.

I'm thinking one of two things happened, there might be more options since it does seem a little weird.

1. The idiot has tried a u-turn and has just hit the silver car in the B-pillar causing the scuff mark. They have then jumped into reverse to start the second step of a three point turn and gone a bit too hard and hit the Astra.

2. The idiot has attempted a parallel park and has hit the door of the Mazda, panicked and hit the throttle while in reverse and rammed the Astra with some gusto. The idiot has then left the scene so that insurance doesn't laugh at their poor parking skills.

Not seeing and skid marks or much else at the scene in those photos to think of anything else, but I'm not the CSI.

PS. Tell the cute girl I said hi :P

Yeah, no skidmarks at all which makes it harder to figure out.

Hah, the redhead is my lovely girlfriend Amy, I'll pass on the compliments :)

I hope the poor Corolla is ok!!!!!

Hah was wondering when someone was going to get on the corollas side, I guess after all this is a corolla forum !

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help. It's really appreciated. At least now I've got a model to pass on to the police for what it's worth.

Had to do it, but seriously, thats a rad ***** effort, best of luck finding the *****, hopefully it wasnt someone from here...

It might be a long shot but looking at the Astra and working on the fact that it was reversed into, could be more likely a hatch as the damage seems to be lower down where as the sedan would have done more damage further up. Just and idea :P

Just had a quick look closer at the red rear light glass and it seems to fit more to a hatch than a sedan.

so dark blue facelift hatch? we all agree? so now all you gotta do it find one uber ****** facelift hatch with a busted tail light and a front grill missing

then i dunno burn it or something lol!

Unfortunately you're looking for a very popular model of car of which there are literally thousands in Melbourne.

But yes I agree it looks like a facelift Corolla zze122. And as there is no foglight, it would be an Ascent or Conquest model, again the most popular models.

I wouldn't discount it having been an elderly person that's most likely just hit the wrong pedal.

Hope it all gets sorted out for you.

Ummm. the covers shown in pic 28042008240 & pic 28042008239 are not from a ZZE122 corolla you can clearly see that there is a slat in it. The cover for the ZZE122 corolla is a single piece with no slat.

look at this:

img3055it7.jpg

this shows the cover for the ZZE122 facelift corolla. The covers that don't have the foglight are the same but simply don't have the round hole. It's obviously from a toyota because it says Toyota on the back of the part but just not the corolla.

I've looked up pics of the following models and the part you have doesn't seem to match up:

- Corolla ZZE122

- Corolla (current model)

- Camry

- Aurion

- Yaris

if you look at the way the damage was inflicted to the astra, you have to wonder what angle the car came at. because the corner is pushed in, but there is still the corner of the bumper that is not flat. then there's a split followed by that long virtical dent where the number plate is. I'm wondering if the driver actually back into your car twice  . also, i've seen cars back into each other before, to do that much damage, there had to be enough run up to build up speed e.g 20km/h + . then there the silver car, it grazed it hard enough to pop off the foglamp cover.

try looking at pics of the Prado, Hilux, Kluger
