Take it to a Toyota dealer service department and explain that you have just purchased the vehicle from a Ford dealer and wish to book it in before the warranty expires. Mention that you have heard about the "Customer Service Exercise" from other Aurion owners on a forum, and as you have just purchased it you are unsure when or if a notification letter will be sent to you. Dont let them fob you off till your next service, if they do just take your business to another dealer who wants your service.

Also the Aurion service intervals are 15K (7.5K under severe conditions).

Thanks for the informative reply. I will do that (hopefully tomorrow). I won't have time to go, but I will give the closest Toyota dealer a call and they shrug me off I'll keep asking others. There are plenty in Melbourne.

Also, thanks heaps for telling me that its every 15K, I was wondering why when I got this car every second service had been done in the log book. I did know that. I thought you had to do every service in your manual or else you will lose your warranty. :blink:

Did you get charged?

No but the car is still under warranty.

Toyota Australia pays the dealers to do this rectification.

Okay guys, I got in contact with Toyota through email a week ago and finally received this:

This vehicle does have an outstanding CSE for oil hose replacement and for this to be completed just contact your local Toyota Dealership and advise your VIN and they will be able to book you in.

So I called up my Local Toyota dealer and got it booked in for January 7th, for the replacement of the 'oil hose' as Toyota seem to call it and also I asked about why my steering is pulling to the left and he said as usual well do a balance and alignment. Which I also got that booked in for. He said they'll do a balance and align for $75 which IMO I found a bit cheap. :blink:

I've been charged upto $90 at least at other tyre places.

Personally I would find somewhere else to get a balance/alignment. A specialist shop can usually do a more superior balance/alignment than a Toyota service department. This is just personal opinion though.

As well, I wouldn't expect that it would completely correct the pull to the left issue. You will notice a slight difference at first, but that quickly wears off. They tried to pull that wheel alignment excuse on me once before.

Yeah, I read that thread about the pull left issue. I thought it was an alignment issue. I wish it was so it would have been an easy fix, but its not <_< .

Anyway, I still have to get a balance and alignment done. This car has done nearly 60K and I don't think its ever had an alignment and balance because the prior owner was a company car so I doubt they ever bothered to get it done.

Also, if the pull left issue does arise even after an alignment, I have an excuse for them to fix it and go, 'hey! It's still happening, I paid such and such for a dodgy alignment, look further into the problem'

Basic steps to get you going should you choose to DIY.

Difficulty: Frustrating

Swear Factor: Extremely high

Notes: I would advise to NOT do this yourself unless you have small hands and A LOT of patience. Working with the 2GR in the Aurion engine bay is not the most pleasant experience.

Okay, so if you're not aware, the 2GR-FE in the Aurion (and other cars for that matter) had previously had a design fault which can lead to oil loss. The Aurion's affected are generally those that were built prior to 2009. There is quite a lot of discussion over on the Toyota Nation thread "ATTN: All 2GR-FE V6 OWNERS!!! BEWARE!!!", as well as over here in "Alert to V-6 owners - possible oil leak!".

I'll let you do the reading further into those topics as this thread is here just for reference. It has been said that the leak mainly occurs anywhere between 45k to 65k miles (72k to 104k kms). Now this part replacement would be covered under warranty, but I believe that they will only change it once the leak occurs. This in my opinion is too risky as even with a small leak, you can lose quite a bit of your oil really fast. You can see just how fast the oil comes out of a pinhole leak from this video:

If you wanted to be safe like I am, you can purchase the replacement pipe plus gaskets for around $45 and either change this yourself, or get Toyota or another mechanic to change it for you at cost.

The part numbers are:

Pipe Oil No. 2 - 15772-31030

Gasket - 90430-16012

Gasket - 90430-16016

Gasket - 90430-16017

So with all that said, yesterday I purchased these parts, and today I fitted them.

The general instruction to replace the pipe itself can be seen in this PDF:

However, getting to it all in the first place is not the easiest thing to do while the engine is still in the car. The following is just a helper guide to give you the idea. It requires that you know how to fill in the gaps in terms of basic automotive work. If you can't figure this out, don't attempt this procedure. It's not for beginners.

So basically, you jack your car up and remove the drivers side wheel:

Then you need to remove/put aside the power steering pump. To do this you remove the trim at the front of the wheel arch:

Then you locate the automatic belt tensioner. Keeping a 5mm Allen key handy (or any other rod of solid metal that is 5mm), you place a 14mm spanner on the belt tensioner and apply pressure in the anti-clockwise direction. This is spring loaded and you will need a bit of pressure on the spanner. Once you have turned it, you will see that the hole at the bottom will line up with a gap in the engine block. You insert the Allen key here to lock it in place:

You then proceed to take the belt off the power steering pump and then unbolting it, putting it to the side to give you some room:

I had a look in my Aurion Registration Date 05-06-2008. It has a steel pipe no rubber pipe looking from the top. Is this OK.

Yes mate. That is the new pipe. Just look at the before and after photos in the second post.

Gave them the car at 9.30am this morning, I had the oil line changed AND I also told them oil is leaking out of my oil cap, and I showed him, and he said they'll have a look, at 4.30pm, went to pick up the car, he said the oil cap WAS fauly, that the seal was busted, and they replaced the whole oil cap, and now when I checked back home no oil at all.

They did not do a Balance and align, I got it booked in for tomorrow at 4pm at a tyre store.

Awesome service, walked in, gave car, they fixed both problems, I went back got my keys and left. Did not have to pay 1 cent. First time ever I never had to give money to mechanics :ph34r:

Go to an auto store and ask if they can order in tools from 'T&E Tools'. Repco is one place that can do this.

The part number is 'HC6567'. Essentially it is a cap/cup style oil filter wrench which covers 65 & 67mm. You will be looking to pay about $20-$30 for it.

Hi There,

First time poster. I only stumbled upon this after I posted below message on whirlpool forum and Hank invited me over.

To save me writing my experience over again, Ill paste my original message from whirlpool:

'My girlfriend and I are on hols and as I was driving along I noticed the tappets were a bit noisy, so I stopped to check the oil level and noticed no oil. After filling it up with new oil, I drove to a car park to find the new oil was leaving a big puddle underneath the car.

I drove it nice and easy to the Toyota dealer and he noticed the oil was leaking from the oil hose. He said to me 'didn't you get the recall letter?' We purchased the car in Dec 2010 and after googling I noticed the recall for the faulty oil line was done in 2009.

Obviously I'm going to be up for a few dollars as the service manager said they would have to pull all the pans out from underneath the engine as the oil has splattered everywhere. The air con is also not working – may need new belt with oil all over it.

If anyone could give me their opinion on where I stand in this situation. The car is now 6 years old with 140,000km on the clock. The previous owner had it under lease. Is it worth me taking this up with Toyota or should I just not bother.

After I get back home I will also need to see how much it is to fix the noisy tappetts + get the air con fixed. At this stage we don't know how much damage is done.'

I picked up my car yesterday and they only charged me $149 to clean the oil off engine (no charge for replacement of hose).

The tapping noise is still there. Service manager believes it is the VVT actuator. To fix this, engine needs to come out. Anyone have any idea how much this will cost?

I have since gone back through warranty and service book and noticed car was serviced by Sydney City Toyota in Feb 2010. Shouldn't the hose have been replaced then? At the top of the page in the service book it says in bold red: "Important: Check the Toyota on-line system for any outstanding manufacturer service campaigns"

Any opinions/advice are much appreciated.

O yea this just happened to me!

Was very lucky that it was noticed and i didn't keep on driving.

Oil was ****** out like in the video.

Has been temporarily glued but i need to get it replaced asap.

I assume i have no chance at claiming it under expired warranty

Yes, I believe Toyota will replace the hose free of charge even with expired warranty

My 2007 Kluger just went at 135000 kms. It dumped all the oil in about 10kms and coated the bottom of the car, wheel arches and even a mist up the back.

Lucky I found this thread and called up Toyota. They say they will only replace under warranty if it is leaking. 

Anyway they sent a tow truck to pick it up, replaced the hose, oil cooler and gave it a basic clean underneath all for no charge.

Just imagine how many cars they could have proactively changed the hose on for what the delayed fix cost them for this one car.

Very true Mr Billet, I am deeply considering doing a preemptive oil line change on my TRD and my wife's Kluger to prevent this mess from happening.

Back on topic, you could do the oil cooler steel line for around $110-120 delivered using Amayama.

Back on topic, the part price really isn't an issue, it just seems like a fairly nasty job to replace that line on an Aurion. The Kluger may be easier due to having more workable room at the side of the engine.

A mechanic would charge you a fortune for that job.

Now for the even better news. I looked under the car today and I don't see rubber, I see steel :D
