Negligent truck drivers

Driving to work in the city today, 2 lanes turning left into 2 lanes (william into elizabeth, by the casino), with me in the left lane. Truck driver in the right hand lane decides during the turn he likes my lane better and has proceeded to cut me off, destroying the front driver's side of my car in the process! Bloody fuming! The road was properly marked and everything. His response? "I didn't see you."

Kinda scary considering I was parked next to him at the lights for a few minutes just prior to that turn. Insurance is coming to the rescue, but the car shouldn't driven unless absolutely necessary hence I'm without a car till it's fixed! From what I can see, it's a new headlight, bumper, sensor, guard and bonnet (it's buckled on the edge).

It's been a bad week for Aurion owners and trucks it seems.

there's been a **** load of members having accidents here lately

trucks do need a wider turning circle, but that is no excuse considering that intersection has dotted lines guiding the turning lanes, which hes obviously cut across.

hope it all works out mate!

was it a truck and trailer or a small truck?

and what part of the truck hit your car?

I bet it's the side of the truck hittin his front car. I can imagine this, as there are always idiots who crossed lanes, let that be making turns or even driving straight with a bit of an angle.

I feel your anger and pain. I'm a victim of hit and run. It in happened in 2 right turn lanes. This guy in a Mazda 6 Classic was in the right lane and was behind me once we just about straightened up and he took the right turn too wide hitting into my rear right and immediately bolted. Mine isn't worth making a claim on insurance.

Sucks for you though.

I swear there are a lot drivers in Brisbane who never take note of what is going on around them because they are too f##king busy on their mobile or day dreaming. Number of times I've seen drivers not indicate to change lanes, or cutting others or myself off, tailgating in left lane like WTF...

I hope your Aurion gets fixed up mate. It sucks not having a car for while too. So is the truckie or his company paying for the repairs?

Im sorry to hear about the misfortune, but the amount of times ive heard people say that it was the truck driver's fault is unbelievable. Even if the car drivers to blame, they'll still blame it on poor old Mr. truckie.

I drive a truck for work on a regular basis (2-3 axle or bigger, with or without trailor's, GVM 8 tonnes +) and i can try to stay in a lane as hard as i can, but sometimes it just doesnt work. Hence the reason why trucks and buses have have a sign on the rear saying "Dont overtake turning vehicle" for reasons like these. When you're focused on concentrating on your turning circle/arch, at times its hard to keep check on who's where. And unfortunatly, some driver's are under the pump to drop off/pick-up deliveries (and im not saying this is an excuse) you just want to get to where your going and be out of there. City driving in a truck is a nightmare regardless of the size.

I hope everything is rectified as soon as possible, and insurance dont play hard ball!

Thats what i was getting at "do not overtake turning vehicle"

I'm well aware of how some trucks require a wider turning circle, and hence those that do have that "Do not overtake turning vehicle" sign on the back.

This truck was not one of those trucks, nor did it have one of those signs. Further the road had markings to show the way to turn, the driver simply didn't pay attention to them. If you knew this particular intersection, then you'd know the truck had plenty of room to take it properly.

Insurance has already been claimed and they're waiving the excess, but no hire car (not on policy) and I don't have choice of repairer - had a bad history with dodgy repairs on cars, only 1 place has ever done it right and they specifically don't do quotes for my insurer. So I guess I'll just have to see how it comes out.

On the bright side, the front bar had a few stone chips and the front end will look brand new (hopefully).

car got dropped in this morning. Doesn't look like they'll be replacing the bonnet, they reckon they can repair it, so see how goes.

Surprised at the new prices for parts. The front parking sensor is worth more than the bumper!

Considering they need to replace a headlight, I'm considering whether they'd let me keep the busted one, for experimenting :D

That's nothing man.... You are lucky

This is what happened to mine a while ago :(

I made one rule now. Never never drive next to a truck. I wait till i have enough space to over take it very and i make sure when i overtake, it won't come at my side again. So i jump in front of it :)

ouch man that sucks. I like your solution :)

Good news, the panel beater says I can keep the headlight. It's mostly fine aside from a broken bracket, so I'll be having a bit of a play with in in coming weeks.

Picked up the Aurion from the panel beaters today - I can honestly say for once I'm more than happy with the quality of the repairs. Car (least the front half) has never looked so good. Plus I got to keep the old headlight to have a bit of a play with!

As a bonus they even detailed it inside and out. I can't remember any of the other mobs doing it for me in the past when I've had panel beating done, so thumbs up to Northside Smash Repairs in Everton Hills.
