  • 2 weeks later...

today was the day to change my clutch and flywheel...

took a few photos...

Pressure plate (back and front)

2011-01-17083640.jpg

2011-01-17083628.jpg

For those who don't see the part number well...

on pressure plate = CTY22104HD

on box = DTY2221204 (C/P Toyo 215x21x24mm)

on the xtreme website the clutch dimensions are 215x21x23.8mm

i'm going to call them later to find out whats going on with the box part numbers????

Clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing

Flywheel

2011-01-17083543.jpg

2011-01-17083528.jpg

so i left my car there and went home to find that they gave me the following clutch and flywheel off an AE92 corolla

so i rang xtreme up and got the part numbers off them.

heavy duty clutch = KTY22004HD

chromoly flywheel = FTY014C @ 5.6kg

Now while i'm waiting for the correct flywheel to come i was contemplating about the weight of it. I didn't want the aluminium one as i cannot machine it everytime my clutch goes to the dump. so i chose the chromoly one.

chromoly = 5.3kg, lightened chromoly = 4.6kg, stock toyota flywheel = 6.06kg (one of members post)

While the lightened one is around 1.4 kgs lighter, the one i'm going to get sent to my mechanic will be only 700g lighter. is it worth the money to get the chromoly flywheel? i guess it all depends on how bad the stock flywheel is but this is the first time i'm changing the clutch so it should be really worn out/warped etc.

just the hassle of waiting again...

edit: sorry the flywheel part number is KTY013C not KTY014C

I think that fits an AE101 and AE111, still for a 4AGE though, has a clamp load of around 700kg too..

Don't stress too much over it man, just a small hic up.. you'll bounce back in no time

Yeah i think the clutch part number was eluding me and what i got was the back of the pressure plate...(check pics above) i always thought they were in a kit??? so the number threw me off completely... thats why i was looking for the part number in the xtreme website and it never showed up

edit: i found out how they label their parts on their website

K = kit, C = cover, D = disc but that doesn't make the part number differece clear...

Hehe, I was reading your post and saw the dimensions of the clutch and thought "man, that's odd, the 2ZZ gearbox has the same diameter clutch (215mm) as that used in my car!" Then it turns out it's actually for my Corolla LOL. Question for you, how much did you pay for the clutch kit? I've got the chromemoly flywheel ready to go just need a clutch. Also, get yourself some ARP flywheel bolts as you'll need to replace them anyway :) (Yeh, I got them too)

yeah the measurements according to the xtreme website, the sportivo/celica 2zzge clutch dimension is 215x21x23.8mm. but the one i got the last number is 24mm... should i be worried about this 0.2mm difference???

as for the price i don't know the break down of parts but i will get him to break it down for me when i pick my car up tomorrow...

went back there today to give him some transaxle fluid that had been left over from the previous oil change. only to find that it could be more than 700ml that was lost when he loosened the drive shaft! GAHHH!

whyyy???? i just changed the oil like in november last year!!!

he also suspect that the gearbox was overfilled with oil. i told him that the castrol book recommended 2.3L of oil so i think i did it right. but anyway, i bit the bullet and went to buy another 1L of gearbox oil and an additive ($42 grr...)

still waiting for the flywheel to come he said no promises to getting it done tonight... *sob* *cries*

I FEEL NAKED WITHOUT MY CAR!!!

Did you have a look at the MWR ultralight chomoly flywheel? It's the lightest chromoly flywheel I know of for the 2zz at 8.8 lbs (3.99 kg)

nah i didn't look at it to be honest but i know the xtreme clutch and flywheel are made from the best parts from all clutch + flywheel companies and build on around that.

too late now haha... my new clutch and flywheel already in ;)

New clutch and flywheel in... ;)

Pictures of the stock flywheel and rubbish clutch...apparently the owners before me and me took care of the clutch and flywheel very well and he could see from the way the burn marked the surface of each part

Which actually doesn't weight too bad...

Didn't get to take the pictures of the new flywheel but the mechanic was nice and took one for him on his phone :P

shiny

the verdict:

PORN DRIVING! the clutch feels very "on-off" feeling and u can certainly feel it grab. its also very soft compared to the stock one. i stalled it once when i drove it out too (noob). revs quicker and this is the first thing i noticed when i started rolling in 1st gear. i haven't planted my foot yet. i'm going to baby it for a few hundred kms with lots of shifting before i plant my foot.

well worth the $1300 spent :)

took it for a photo shoot at the shrine of rememberance today (peter got the photos) and took it for a little harsher spin.

1) limiter still at 7.8k :(

2) axle tramp while landing in 2nd gear

while no.2 can be fixed with the solid engine mounts, i'm pretty sure MOST stivos have their limiter at 8.2k. i'm starting to think whether my car went through the recall so long ago? what did the recall actually entail?

this makes me impoosible to land in lift without abit of wheel spin/axle tramp. i've heard changing to a syn oil will raise the limiter to 8.2k. but not willing to spend extra money for that extra 400 rpm? i dunno... sigh...

good thing is that now i'm shifting in lift from 1st to 2nd, i can feel the clutch is PROPERLY disengaged before i shift. which is good becuz that means no more crunching :) haven't stalled it again yet so i'm getting the hang of the new clutch feel now hehe ;)

Have you really done 500+ km's in one day? With new clutches, you're meant to bed in the clutch plate with Zero thrashing for the first 500kms minimum unless I'm missing something here?

Yeah you're probably right... I didnt totally thrash it though. Just hit lift for a max 3 times with heavy shifting... Kinda was hanging for it lol... :P never dumped the clutch or did any wheelies. Mechanic said just drive it around abit with lots of shifting and i did this prior to hitting lift so it i think im right. He didnt specifically say how long i had to drive it for...

i'll ring him up later and ask him again
