Ive just clocked 10000 kms, i only had one major problem andthat was a rattle coming from somewhere at the back of the car, it turned out to be a loose number plate which was fixed, however ive got a new problem which is on the passanger side. When i drive over bumps there is a nasty thump thump noise, and it only does it on that side of the car, all the time. Could that be a faulty shock absorber?

Lucio,

It is most definitely a faulty shocker.

My left one went first in Dec, then the right one failed in Feb.

Should take about 3 days for new one to come in. You will though have to take it back to dealer for them to determine it is a shocker, and wait 3-4 days for one to come in. They seem to fail fairly quickly, no noise, then clunk clunk. you will probaly find the handling of the car is shocking aswell. Youll notice a huge difference once fixed.

Hi Toohey,

Here is the thing. With the fair trading guy in the car he basically stated that if i pursue this in small goods court he would be required to submit a report. In that report the question is raised and i had the exact wording in one of my previous posts something along the lines of "is it fine under normal driving conditions ?"

and the answer to that is yes its fine under normal conditions for me anyway n dats around 3000-4500 rpm. Now the thing is the rattles over time get lower n lower on my rev limit as time goes by. At the moment its gone from 7500 rpm all the way down to 5500 rpm n sometimes around 5000 rpm. So basically all he told me is if it re-visits the NORMAL DRIVING CONDTIONS region again to give him another call.

This is basically what ive been informed by fair trading dont know if its any different.

He actually used a situation a year or two ago to show me how this applies. He told me an older ford when traveling @ 120km/h+ would make a loud howling noise and it was thought to be from the shape of the roof and caused by the wind passing over it and at the time ford called it a CHARACTERISTIC like toyota is calling this. Customers complained and some went to small goods court and it failed as 120km/h+ is NOT classified as normal driving conditions.

I'd like to stay positive like i said but these examples and from the information im being told the outcome to me looks negative

so, if you live in NT, with so speed limits...and you're always highway driving...

isn't that considered normal driving conditions...it's normal for them.

took my car in for its 1000 on friday and to also get the grill and rear skirt finally fitted.

Got the car home and realised that they hadn't cut out room for the exhaust or done the exhaust mod.

The skirt had already bubbled and melted  and they also used black rubber to fit it and not grey like the rest of the car.

Rang them up first thing on saturday and took it into them and got them to fix it. they cut out room for the exhaust and refitted it. I told them it was not good enough and they had to get me another skirt.

I must admit though they worked damn hard and fast to keep me happy on sat morning...in and out within the hour

Danthuyer,

i had the rear skirt and grill fitted when i purchased the car and i had the same problem, melted the inner edge of the skirt and had to get the exhaust tip extended and fitted at an angle to avoid pumping hot air into the skirt. I cut off the melted bits of plastic and left the skirt as it is. I was lucky in a sense the damage isn't really noticeable unless you look closely.

Another thing i noticed recently is that the grill and skirt aren't fitting perfectly. The front grill is not flush on both sides and the rear skirt's rubber is coming off at the exhaust end. The hot gasses must have caused the glue on the rubber to melt :( These are not very noticeable again until you look closely, very closely. But it is not like they are gonna drop off with the screws tying them down. Did you notice anything wrong with yours, and how is your car going? Any problems so far?

Cheers,

Zee :D

i have experienced very very poor service from dealerships in melbourne. for warranty service you need a dealership so i shopped around and i have now found an outstanding dealership who are professional, highly trained and very friendly. even though they are the largest dealership in our country they give personal service. i drive a very long way to get to this dealership but i am very happy with their service. i hope you find a positive dealership to look after you.

i would be uneasy if i found out the dealer had fitted the body kit parts. i think body kit parts should be fitted by panel beaters. i know it is not a hard job to do but i would like professionals to do the job.

when i picked up my car from the dealer brand new the floor mats were not fitted correctly. i had an airconditioner installed and they did not reinstall my headlamps correctly. from this point my experience with this dealer has gone from negative to negative to negative.

Agree with you Orrock, but my skirt and grille were fitted by a Bodykit Specialist - Talon Body Styling and they have branches in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, ACT, Tasmania and Sydney. So i have basically decided to leave the car as it is because it is not a major problem, just a sore in my eye knowing they are not perfect.

I went to the dealer today and said im getting a knocking noise from my right front tyre. I said that it was only over small bumps, they took it for a quick drive and said "umm no noise, if it does come back bring it back". Im going to my mechanic friend that is going to do a shock absorber test. Then i will be going back with the paper work saying that it is stuffed and they can replace it. And i will make i point about it, because they made me wait for over an hour and they looked at the car for all of 5 mins

Hey NIKICH, how's it goin man  Forgot to tell you that day the Sportivo looks great from the rear view mirror! Especially when you are in lift :P

Yep, i guess with the shocks that would be the way to go. I think Toyota will try to avoid claims at all means unless something serious happens. I will also have to get someone to look at my concerns if they deteriorate and put it to Toyota.

magic take it to castle hill toyota man, you'll be happy with the service, theyre decent.

Western toyota, ahh, i went there to buy my 7th gen celica, when i went there, they let me test drive it, great price, ready to roll, we wanted to buy it. I had them inspect my 93 celica, and asked for a trade in so we could buy the new one. They had the inspector out, now privately i could easily have gotten 10 or 12grand + at the time, the inspector comes out and tells us, yep, we can trade that in for 2 grand!.

We told them to screw themselves. and according to spare parts there, a replacement fog light bulb for the celica is $800

yeah, but there is this nice sales chick who works there/served us
