Rolla Swerving in the wet?

Hey boyz, im abit worried about my rolla swerving when i step on it steadily in the wet, it actually swerves side to side with wheel spin..im wondering if you guys have the same issue.. could it be my tyres? my tyres are falken with around 60% tread left even though the sides are abit warned out. Do i need an alignment or something? when ever i drive in the wet i have to step on it real gently to excellerate slowly... :huh: do you guys have the same issues? holla and let me know..... :P :unsure:

Mine does similar - but probably no where near as bad...I just figured it was a bit of torque steer......*shrug*

besides it adds to the fun of silliness in the wet.....

I hate torque steer.. LSD or some sort of TCS will help too. The UK Stivos have TCS standard. Actually quite a few FWD cars have them nowadays, the Accord Euro, Astra Turbo etc all have them.

Depending on the road surface when I hit lift in first and second be prepared to grab 1/4 lock to stay in your own lane. LOVE IT!!Then the rev limiter also comes along very quickly as well ;)

Its just annoying to me, if its a RWD losing traction and having to grab opposite lock that IS FUN but a FWD yuk :P

I have Falken Ziex, and it is no good on the wet. On runabout, i could just understeer at such a low speed it is a joke :P Probably my suspension is all farked up also.

I'd say your suspension setup would have something to do with excessive understeer in the wet. With not much travel in your shocks there would be alot of extra pressure on your tyres and everything else.

I have Falken Ziex 512's and i've found them to be quite good in the wet. I've done some trips in constant rain and the car never got off line or felt like it was going to aquaplane at any stage. Braking was also good.

This model tyre has a large channel up the centre that helps dramatically with water dispersion.

As for torque steer, its still there! But i'd expect that with any tyre.

I don't have problems with it on wet days, but on runabout I just have to take pre-cautions, because it happened three times so far and it can happen again. They tyres, to me its good, am not too sure about track or what, but its been two years and it doesn't fail me :) However, yes I know this is a suspension problems in my case.

i had the exact problem on my old ride. custom suspension no give at all... rollin on pirelli's pzeros.. wet i could almost drift!!!!!!!! very bad handling in wet. so i just didn't drive hard.

but now on my rolla with the F1's its excellent.!!! and not so stiff suspension.

Hahaha yes they are falken Ziex 326, 205,40ZR 17

Wat tyre suggestions do you have for my 17s??? please reply all :blink:

Look under wheels and tyres, i have made my biased tyre recommendation clear in those topics :P

i havent actually come across this problem yet

yes i have felt torque steer but not in the rain wich i suppose is a good thing just means im driving responsible :rolleyes: lol

also my car is like 3weeks old and the last time it rained a decent down pour was atleast a week ago so my tyres have like 99% tread left so that helps to i guess

      New to Toyota - 2005 Corolla Sportivo!

      Got a good chance a month a go to give the beast a good wash. Sydney weather and the usual weekend jobs have stopped me from cleaning since but I also got a good chance to top up the HydrO2 coating. Decided to go for some quick shots not to far away from home. For a few months now, the car has been running a bit rough in terms of the tune. I had noticed for some time it seemed to be running quite rich, especially on cold starts where it would run as rich as 10.7:1 where as it would normally start in the mid 12:1s before. It was also showing random signs of hesitation on partial throttle in particular and occasionally moments of full throttle from a stop. All of this resulted in some pretty poor fuel consumption amongst other things but I caught up with Adam and did some logging and tuning last week to sort out the issues. After doing some driving and logging, Adam could definitely see the car was running way too rich. When checking through the tune, he also adjusted the temperature settings which now read correctly to not stop me from revving out all the way, especially when in stop start traffic or letting the car sit for some time with the engine bay heat. The main cause of the issues I was having was that the open loop tune was tuned to run too rich and the closed loop tune was over correcting too much which caused the sudden hesitation and throttle input delays. Once the open loop was corrected, the closed loop was re-enabled and the manifold pressure settings changed for when closed loop would take over as this reading was set too low. After addressing the concerns, the VVT and Lift tune was adjusted accordingly. Lift was set at 5500 RPM and has been raised to 5700 RPM and it honestly feels much better. Since the exhaust uses a 4-1 header/extractor, it really gets going in the higher parts of the rev range. Raising lift 200 RPM to 5700 RPM actually reduced the dip from small to large cam and the car feels much more linear now. After the hours of logging and tuning, it was a great result to have the car much more driveable at lower revs and singing all the way to redline when giving it a boot full.

      Thanks Ash for the post mate, I watched this last night and he really explained it well how a simple thing can be so very very expensive when it is designed for use and not for servicing. I recommend watching this as well for all who have a HVAC issue in their Toyota's or Lexus and as always he is the GURU for both KAA

      2015 RAV4 Rear Bumper Cover Removal & Installation

      Hi all. I am hoping someone can advise where I can find the instructions to remove the rear bumper cover on a 2015 Rav4 GX model and to install a new one. I am aware I will need to unclip the harness for the sensors. I assume I will need to remove the sensors from the old cover to the new one. How are the sensors secured and how do I remove them? Any advice and tips would be most appreciated. Thank you

      Glad you got it sorted Geoff. I think I got a win on mine too. I ended up replacing the entire unit inside the fuel tank. The pump was working but was very sick sounding. Also, the filter was very dirty too. I supposed it's to be expected after 14 years. What I can say is that I think some fuel was being pumped from the rear tank, but I think between the filter and the sick pump, it was not enough to empty the rear tank could empty quick enough. Maybe replacing the filter could have gotten me over the line, but I didn't want to have to do the job again. Perhaps if I was selling the car, I might have a different opinion. Its half a day that I won't forget anytime soon. I think I ended up with more diesel on me than on the ground....
