Hey everyone

just curious i cruise at about 3300 RPM? at 100 km/hr

thats bit high especially in 6th gear, are my ratios rooted up? or is it like that? :(

well its burning excess fuel, revving at that rpm if it doesnt need to...... thats why they stuck in the 6th gear....

even though we share a lot of the same setup as the celica you will notice the 6th gear in the celica is better setup for highway cruising ours seems like they've chosen to give it a bit more performance as opposed to fuel efficiency

facts and figures speak otherwise :)

you know best buddy,, if your worried about it that much maybe you should take it into the dealer and ask their technicians.. as for me i'll keep my high revs and learn to put up with it i guess i've been happy for the last 1-2years

If the noise gets too much, just think about the poor sods driving the original Daihatsu Terios (the Daihatsu motor, not the Echo motor).

Apparently, due to the 1.3 litre engine and relatively hefty weight, to get reasonable around town pace they put the final drive from one of the 660cc screamers in ... try 5,500 rpm at 100 km/h!

Just an aside, there's been numerous posts on here about engine noise, and I couldn't really work out why, when our wagon is so whisper quiet ... but if you're doing 3,300 in sixth, that probably explains it. The auto leaves you sitting on about 2,200 in top.

I hate my 5 speed lol...

100kmh - 3000rpm... 110kmh - 3500rpm... 120kmh - 4000rpm...

Gets really loud, 120dB to be exact up the freeway lol...

sounds about right. drive an EK civic typeR u'd be going at about 4500rpm.

wat sort of facts and figures do u have? i could get about 600km from a tank with just mostly freeway cruising up and down from brisbane to gold coast.

That doesn't make sense... If you are doing 100km/h at 3000rpm, 5th gear gives you 33.3 km/h per 1000rpm. So at 4000rpm, you should be doing 133.3km/h, unless your clutch or tranny is slipping.

I had a Terios. The auto did 4000rpm at 100km/h. Gave me 12L/100km. In the city, with lots of full throttle flooring (no torque), also 12-13L/100km! It's a bad combination, Auto, 1.3L, 4WD.

My Euro on the other hand does 2400rpm @ 100km/h, and the amount of pull in 6th gear is the same as the Terios' 2nd gear. I also get 9.5L/100km fuel consumption.

WTF???????

IT should be 3300'ish

Well what can I say....???

Mine revs at around 3200rpm at 100km/h and around 3500 rpm at 110km/h.

For the past few weeks my car has travelled on highways 90% of the time and I got fuel consumption of 7.6L/100km.

What oz_viking is saying is that regardless of your car or the gearbox in it, your km/h in a particular gear increases proportionally to the revs.

For example, the last car I noted was my old Festiva ... at 100km/h in top, it was doing exactly 2500rpm, or 40km/h per 1000 rpm. So 3000 rpm meant 120kmh, 3500 meant 140, and so on.
