How often do you service your car? Do you go to the main dealer or do you fo elsewhere? If you go elswhere is it cheaper and how much cheaper is it?

Levin ZR

Service interval: According to the log book

Service Location: Bathurst Toyota

Never had a problem with the service, so why go elsewhere.

Some good points:

- Free loan car (upon request), just pay for the fuel

- Great friendly Staff

- No BS about "extra" costs

- Always upfront about extras (if required)

Some bad points:

- having to wait for my bill when they say the car is ready : I know, not really worth complaining about, but I mention it in interests of fairness.

96 Camry

Did one major service at a dealer ~ $1800, but the car ran like new. After that, did it all myself.

I do all the work on all my cars myself (well, with the occasional help of mates) :)

Edit: all services done at 10,000km intervals, and ASAP when I get a new car. (you never know for sure when it was last done.)

Corolla Ascent

serviced every 10000km

not going to the dealer because of prices, instead i go to Top Secret Imports...normally ~100$ cheaper and fantastic service....they offered me a free pinkslip for my next rego, because it took them two weeks to send me my invoice via email :)

ZZT231R Toyota Celica

Serviced every 5000KM and follow logbook on what needs to be done

Part Used:

Castrol Edge Sport Engine Oil 5W-30

Genuine Toyota oil Filter Part # 90915-YZZE2

Major service done by a mechanic

My mechanic charges me as low as $60 for oil/filter change + inspections, and charges a bit more on top for everything else that needs work.

But when i service it myself, it cost more -_-

2005 corolla sportivo

minor service every 4000kms myself and anything else that comes along according to the log book (but i replace consumables much sooner than recommended anyway).

taken to a mechanics workshop (family friend) every 7500km for a proper check over and major work if required. $60 does it nicely :P

If the car is under warranty, I'll service it at the dealer. I know the dealer I choose is not going to break the bank and I help offset costs by providing my own fluids of preference. When I had the TRD serviced, it was under the $120 capped price service, so I could not turn down that offer.

Once the warranty is up though, I do the work myself. Service as per the log book intervals with an oil and filter change midway between intervals (7,5000km in this case). If I need to do work that involves tools I don't have, then I get some help from a mate.
