I believe the figure, Dyno Dave is very good.

err dyno dave did this 132kw atw on a motec??

has dyno dave finally bought a dyno? or is he still using a rental?

The only sportivo that i have seen even come close to this was leanne ferrari's and she had the engine blue printed..... big $$$$$$$$$

WOAH!!! Blue printing is LOVE!!! :) :) because while your doing that.. i am sure the engine builder did some stealth Extrude Honing :) :) i know i would if i was blue printing hehehe

if not blue printing it still an awesome mod.. but damn you have to be minted!! or serious about wanting to race your car.. or getting it ready for some serious internals :)

respect to leanne!!

small correction on my previous comment. Dave Flood is not Dave from SAS, so I can't vouch for the motec figure. Can get a little confusing when there's two "Dyno Dave"'s :o

seems strange, go to all that work and use the stock airbox, sounds bit sus to me...

nah he just sold it.. because someone or a mate offered him decent money for it.. he selling his car.. so what ever comes off easy you sell that off becuae you never get your money back selling it with the car..

If he's only getting 14.8 down the 1/4 mile with that work done he doesn't know how to drive!!!

The one I heard about was Black... supposedly out of the Rigoli stable, which I thought strange in itself as they are Rotory specialists??

mmmm never heard of a rigoli sportivo... they are normally a turbo house mainly.. but if it is a rigoli!! maybe they stealth a turbo sportivo in sydney :o !!

Again Rigoli are specialists in REX's,Evo's and the like. But all are turbo cars or AWD except for the Datto 1200 ute of Dominic's. If they've played with Stivo then it could be serious but i have heard of instances from Rigoli in Qld where a REX owner spent up big time with them only to have his car go missing about 3 weeks later. The nice guys at Rigoli offered to replace all the stolen goodies for a cheap price after they found the car stripped of turbo, intercooler, exhaust etc etc(all the things the guy has just got done etc).

But the owner had put marks on all his stuff in a conspicuous place and when they replaced all the stuff stolen he just checked out of curiosity and found all the items stolen had his special marks on them. Seems very sus that they do the work for you, charge an arm and a leg, then flog it and strip it and sell your stuff back to you at a cheaper price. I suppose that's one good way to make a large profit. Again is it true, well I found this out through Circuit racers in Qld who run in the improved production class, the guy's a scrutineer and is/was a member of the WRX club Qld.

The grape vine grows long and wide and everyone will eventually find out. If it was my Stivo then i'd have it locked up good and proper LOL.

Guard dogs, barbed wire, land mines....

  • 5 weeks later...

Hey guys, :D

I've got an '05 Stivo and would love to have this mod done to it because of the massive torque hole under 3-4000rpm, but the thing that worries me is the durability of the gear box, diff & engine with this ECU mod.

I mean what does the extra torque do to the gear box - will the modification destroy it?? And what about starving the engine of fuel, or is that rectified by the Apexi Unit? And would any exhaust be OK with this modification, or does it have to be a specific unit?

I'm asking these questions because i) I've heard a heap of sad mod stories of mod jobs gone wrong because the modder has forgotten to ask the right questions or their mechanics had cut corners which ended up in rides being destroyed , and ii) as with all forum members, I'd be shattered to see my car had blown to bits because I didn't modify my exhaust or tune my PC adequately. :( :(

I love the theory of 'Plug-and-Play' and I know that when the Falcon XR6 Turbo came out and APS were the first to offer performance kits to boost power from the standard 240kw to almost 300kw by piggy-backing the Factory PC with a 'Unichip' ECU, a heap of other workshops started doing exhaust mods impressing their clients with Dyno numbers. :D

My mate's XR6 Turbo ute was a prime example - brand new ute, modified the exhaust, got to 300kw, loved the dyno numbers, 2 weeks later he was at his dealer asking for a new gearbox because this one blew up. It blew up because of too much torque. Example 2 - new WRX with modified exhaust, engine gone because of fuel starvation. And the stories go on and on.

If you guys can give me answers to this that'll be great. Oh and one more question, does this Apexi unit (or any other similar unit) actually over-ride the original computer or does it just help it the original enhance mapping??

Here's the link to the Motor Magazine review of the Phase I APS kits for the XR6 Turbo if you're interested: http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/falcon/m...ix_shooter1.htm

Cheers & go Northy - lookin' good bro..

Elbowz :)

the tune that im running is not somthing that is going to screw your engine, the AFR was only set to where it should be, the car dosent run lean enough for any issues to arise. exhaust is up to you, so far there is only one system that has proven itself on the forums both power and noise wise and most of the more modified cars are all running it, do a search for CES Exhaust and there is loads of info about. The Apexera Power FC is not a piggy back like an emanage or unichip its a full replacement ECU, the unit is not plug and play so if you decide to go ahead and do it there is a workshop in Sydney that has done 2 cars now, the 2nd car has not suffered the issues that i have so i must be the lucky one.

Hey!

Is the data programmed into the power fc able to be downloaded onto a laptop and then transferred into another power fc?

If this is possible, then may it not be possible to specify a minimum induction and exhaust mod specification eg. CAI, CES exhaust and possibly extractors so as to standardise the engine that the tune is performed on, and then post a faq on how to diy the install of the power fc on the forum. Possibly a slightly more conservative tune than Northy with the possibility of having a tuner do the final tweaking to get the max out of it.

The tuner in Sydney could at a price upload the data onto the power fc and then off you go!

with FC-Datalogit from NZ or the FC pro interface and software from Apexi you can upload/download maps and have access to more features than the hand controller lets you do. It's been 12 weeks now since I paid for my FC-Datalogit and it has still not arrived. In hindsight I would have purchased the genuine apexi interface and software, even though it doesn't allow datalogging to the laptop.

Good idea in concept but it just doesnt work like that on our 2ZZ's.

Just so u r aware as vvt and lift does not work like the honda's i.e. on and off but rather has so many other variables simply copying someone else tune and trying to improve it will be a waste of time for you if your the one trying to do it or even worse for the tuner especially if ur paying them by the hour .....

How do i know this? Well we tried Northy's tune on my car and the gains from his map were almost zero i think at peak power it was only 1kw gain .....

So as stated nothing like a honda where its simply on and off and can be consistently copied from one car to the next with minor tweeks but rather each 2ZZ will have other factors such as run in, oil used, etc etc etc the system our car uses to make its power is just different and it would seem each engine has its own characteristics.....

cheers

Bill

also somthing else to note is that xoom and myslef are running basically the same performance mods, only diff is he has a TOM'S flywheel and mine is TRD appart from that the cars are the "same" but are very diff engines.

hey northy i noticed you mention apexara (spelling) a few posts ago is that the ECU your running

if so isnt northy running the Apexi

i know they are supposed to be the same but badged different but that migt be the answer to all your problems right there

your getting a few minor issues where as northy so far hasnt got any or only really small ones that just dont really matter anyways.

cheers guys

ive been keeping an eye on northys car cus if everything goes sweet with his car and the tuner decides to start advertising that he has it figured out il be in there very shortly after hehehe

also elbowz17 with putting in the new ECU and getting it tuned there wont be a problem with fuel starvation key word here being tuned

cheers buddy

as for CAI and CES i have both and obviously no ECU yet, my car isnt starving for fuel if thats also what your worried about cheers
