Just wondered what you guys think about the new corolla hatchback? Just saw the ad lol looks pretty cool to me!

exterior, i reckon the car looks a lot more striking than previous models.

love the front end, one of my friend's hates the rear, but i think it's pretty nice lol.

love the new rear bumper as well. they could easily turn that into a diffuser of some sort for a sport model

not sure about interior though...looks like they took cues off the 86? i don't really like anything apart from the dashboard and steering wheel. the centre console area looks kind of cheap.

is this the new 'design language' or w/e Toyota is going for?

Have to agree with you on all your points rich. The exterior definitely looks a lot sportier and comes with HIDs (no mods needed there).

What was the kw like on the previous model? Much of an increase? Last corolla I drive was 1999 model lol.

02-06 Corolla is 100kw, think 07-12 is a little more as well?

Not sure if they changed the engine again from the ZRE152 series

I like the sharper exterior lines...would look very nice stanced =D

07-10 had 100kw as well - they increased it on this newer version by 3 kw

my 2012 has 100kw and 175 nm they could really use use the power of a 2L i reckon due to the weight of them or make a sports version of the 1.8 like they used to. although took it for a fling through the mountains yestrday and it really impressed me so not bad at all. new version looks nice though.

They could have increased the power of the Corolla a bit more to 2L engine, they increased it for the Camry to 2.5L wit 135KW now.

Then it would have at least 110-120kw (nice increase from 100kw/103kw). Maybe they're waiting it out till the next model :)

I agree and I really dont see why they dont increase it to a 2L as all the corolla's competition have a 2L or smaller engine with a turbo. It does have sufficient power but 2L would be nice, maybe in the future haha :) Also mazda still have the sp25 with a 2.5L and then the 2L in the other models (except mps) and they sell lots so its not like toyota wouldnt sell any actual sports model corollas with a better engine. Anywho not knocking toyota or anything i absolutely love my corolla but just doesnt make much sense.

I totally understand that but there is nothing wrong or unpractical about putting a 2L motor in for a bit more zippyness to be on par with the other manufacturers. The mazda 3 sp25 isnt a impractical car either and they sell lots of them so its not like a sportier corolla would be a hardcore street racer lol would still be fuel efficient with a 2L too but anyway not a huge deal though just an opinion.

Is there still room for a high revving na engine though, especially when we have increasingly stricter emissions/environmental regulations etc.

i rmbr reading the Civic Type R stopped production in Europe because they couldn't be bothered changing the engine to keep up with the regulations over there.

maybe we'll only be seeing forced induction if anything in the future?

My 2011 Corolla Hatch looks nicer at the front.

Is this car lower to the ground than the 2011 model. The 2011 model that I own is nice and high off the ground which is great as if I am turning left and a four wheel drive is turning right I can see through the windows of the 4wd to see if its clear to turn left. My previous corolla hatch was lower to the ground and all I ever say when turning left was the car doors of a 4wd turning right.

My current 2011 corolla when driving it is impossible to see the front of the car making life very difficult when parking or going between two cars. It seems all the modern car brands have the bonet sloping downwards to make it look more sporty.

My 2011 corolla has a large front window but has these large window frames down the side of the car which are about 4 inches wide and when turning into a corner its near impossible to see if a car is parked on the side of the road. I have to bend my head forward when turning due to this blind spot. The frames have side air bags but I wish they would drop them for a thinner frame to cover the blind spot.

Apart from those minor iirritations I do like driving my Toyota Corolla Hatch that I bought last Dec. Its a very smooth drive and on bumps roads you really get a smooth drive. Good fuel economy and love the button that displays how many KM before the tank is out of petrol. The headlights are really good on this corolla. It lights up not only the front area but the side foot path so you can see pedestrians. My older corolla headlights were like looking into a tunnel vision and didn't light up the road nearly as much as my current car.

My 2011 corolla has a 55 litre tank which is ample for me. I get 464km to the tank. Some other smaller cars have bigger petrol tanks. Not sure what the new model has for its size petrol tank.

At the back of the car down the side I would rather see them have a longer glass window than a blocked out area as when parking and driving backwards it creates a blind spot. I almost think they do this to create more car accidents to keep them busy with endless repairs:)

Thats exactly right just because a car has more power or a turbo etc doesnt mean it will use more fuel as you said would probably actually use less and you have more power to have more fun haha

I constantly get atleast 650 km to a tank and thats a combination of city and highway driving and cruising and enthusiastic driving should get more then that i reckon.

I'm in Perth metro. The tank is only 55 litre. The trip computer everytime I fill up the car shows 460 to 467 KM but mainly 464km before its empty.

When its down to 230km its about half way on the fuel guage so I tend to fill it up then.

I do have the air conditioner on most of the time. The car gets quite hot due to the big front window.

My car I bought Dec of 2011. Its a Toyota Corolla Hatch automatic.

Whats the norm with these cars anyway ?

The car takes unleaded petrol.

IIRC i've only ever seen around 550km for a tank, and that was all pretty much highway driving to the snow mountains.

other than that my the orange light turns on at around 450 most of the time.

i usually only drive to and from the train station which is about 10 minutes away...i also heard warming up your car for a long time uses quite a bit of petrol lol. dunno if it's true or not.

i get 650 km easy but i rarely use the aircon and mine is manual so that would make a difference. I do probably 50% highway but its only a short trip and about 50% city/town driving just cruising around basically but some leadfoot driving is involved haha

I swear i'm nioy a heavy footed driver! Lol. Last time i refilled i calculated i was averaging about 6.9L/100km. Even if it's not thar accurate it's better than the 8L/100km i usually get. Shifting earlier and driving like a snail makes a huge difference lol
