I Hate Just Cars Insurance

Hey my mate just found out that just car insurance are going to charge an additional $900 excess for the corolla sportivo. So that basic $500, age $600 plus vehicle $900 = $2000 excess. I am going to change insurance companies now. I suggest you guys check you insurance and renewal form carefully, they are sneaky.

Man dats dekuf up, is dat beacause of the mods in your car?

my basic excess was $400 but after listing my mods it went up an extra 300.

so if anything happens my excess is $700....

no other **** about vehicle excess....

They said nothing about that to me. Wasn't stated on my insurance policy either. I'll check and make sure when the renewal come though thanks mate.

Mine is $1350 a year w. coilovers, brace etc covered. I thought that was good.

EDIT: Doesn't make sense why they would do that. They didn't do it to me. I've had a clean driving record for 4 years (yep...4 years lol) and only ever had one accident when I was 17 (I'm 23 now). I guess that helps me a bit when insurance comes around.

No not cuz of mods or age etc, this the email my mate got:

Hi X.

Thanks for confirming the requested details.

I have checked you policy and your excesses.

Just Car Insurance is a specialist insurer offering insurance predominantly for:

· Drivers under 25 years of age

· Drivers of privately imported, modified or high performance cars

· Drivers with previous license suspensions

· Drivers with less-than-perfect insurance history

· Driver with modifications and accessories fitted to their cars

As a result, our claim statistics for certain types of cars are higher than standard risk insurers. The additional Vehicle Excess of $900 has been applied to all customers driving a Toyota Sportivo.

Unfortunately we are not able to remove or lower it as it is fixed on all policies, however please bare in mind that you only ever need to pay your excesses in the event of an accident or claim where you are deemed to be responsible.

Your Age Excess will no longer apply after you turn X on the Xth of X 2007.

It would certainly be a shame to lose you to standard insurer.

If you have any further enquiries or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact one of our Customer Relations specialists on 13 13 26 or email us at: contactus@justcarinsurance.com.au

We are open between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 5pm Saturday and 10am to 3pm Sunday, Eastern Standard Time.

Regards,

I've just gotten a quote for my mate, who is 20 and has a Sportivo, lowered, 18" rims, $2500 stereo system, exhaust mods, CAI.

Total $980 annual, plus $350 basic excess and $500 age excess. Thats on 60% NCB and a discount, but thats the joys of being an insurance underwriter :-)

you guys with the <$1000 quotes must not live in Sydney........

Bloody high premiums........

Costs me $1400 to insure a Conquest for $19k and in 25 with a clean record.... except for a speeding fine in 2001 and write off in 1998 :P (Not that those questions actually come up cos they are both over 5 years old). :D

I just spoke with NRMA (my current insurer)

The addition of the Cat Back, King Lows, 17's, and Cold Air will not change my premium unless I choose to increase my agreed value. Currently my vehicle is insured for an agreed value of $24500 and some change...

My excess remains at $350 and my premium is a tad over $500 for the year. This is in Brisbane too...

Also, bear in mind though that I am nearly 31, so younger guys, it may pay to have your parents help you out.

Send me a PM listing all your mods, your birth year, what year Sportivo and your postcode, I'll see what I can do for you.

The quote I did was for WA, Sydney and Melbourne tend to be higher, but I'm happy to do a tentative quote.

Read your insurance policies carefully people. If their insurance sounds like a bargain, all the more reason to got through every single part of it. If the premium is cheap, then the excess is horrible and vice versa.

They have to make their money somewhere. I went looking for Just cars at one stage, and once you add all the excesses etc...it brings the grand total up to about 2 grand.

hmmm interesting because i just called them to query this and this is the response i got. My only excess's are 3 simple ones:

  1. Standard excess - $600 (everyone in NSW apparently has this)
  2. Vehicle Modification Excess - $400 (this is due to the number of mods on the car)
  3. Accessories Excess - $800 (this is for my rims)

And this is how its been since the beginning when i first had it insured.

I'm with RACV, $750 ish p.a from memory, I'm 24, 1 claim. Any legal mods are allowed, no excesses or increased premiums. Currently have basic and age excess, works out about a grand I think.

Was $2200 when I was in Gosford but that was insured business, no mods, and I think $1100.00 excess.

thats strange mate i just gave just cars a ring and they still have my excess at 500 thats with all my mods listed. My age excess doesnt apply cause im 25 :D but i queried them on rising there excess or premiuims regarding the sportivo and they said thats not going to happen and if it were i would have gotten something by now in the mail. Also checked my last insurance policy details from last week (just cars send one out to me when i do a mod) and nothing has changed

mine is $3700 with them i canceled it and with nrma now for $2200. is your old man with nrma, mine is and has been for a while so i put my name under his name pretty cheap

Do a search for 'NRMA'

They are a pack of idiots. They lost me for good when I found out that my payment never went through to them, so in effect I was uninsured when I thought I was. They never informed me. I recieved the policy and everything, but apparently if I had an accident they would NOT have covered me. That's low.

Just Car gave me the best deal I could get, but that's just me I guess. It does vary between persons and their driving experience/record etc.

PS: My own father is with the NRMA and has been for 36 years and they still overlooked that. Be wary in the future.

I hate AAMI they only allow one midification for anyone under the age of 25....thats fkn Shyt.......thats it going with NRMA now.... :P

Why go to someone who you'll hate even more? lol

I hope your car isn't lower than 30mm from the factory ride height as well, otherwise you're voided with them :S

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Shannons yet ? From what i've heard, they are great and the prices are pretty darn good too. Only catch is you have to be over 25 BUT if you can prove to them you're an avid car nut (eg. paid membership in a car club etc), they may actually insure you even if you're under 25. I'm pretty sure i've seen reports of people with FTO's going from just cars to Shannons and sometimes the premium reduced by almost half. Excess is lower too.

Atm, i'm comprehensive with just cars, FTO with pod filter is $3375  can't wait till i'm 25 *sigh*.

I was quoted $2100 with Shannons, $1780 with GIO and $1630 with Just Cars.... I really should have gone with GIO... :(

mate give them a call and confirm this.

as like i said i rang them and there was no "vehicle excess" on my policy because it was a sportivo ..... its just a phone call away .....
