stroked 2zz?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

After reading and research Im just curious about how much power you can get from a stroked 2zz? That’s with all the goodies lightened flywheel, intake, exhaust, power fc etc. Just that I was talking to Trevor from meridian (some vic members mite know him) anyway reeled of the modd list to him and he said the stroke kit with proper tune and you can pull 250 bhp plus atw said that would equate for 150kw plus atw wheels easy. Is that about right?, or are they smoking some good stuff in that garage. Not to mention it’s a good price for fitting and tune (without power fc) if you can get that kind of power gain.

I'm not sure if that would be 250hp ATW, that power can certainly be achieved at the flywheel. Was it Trevor or Toby you were speaking with?

A mate has a stock BEAMS 3sge in his sprinter with adaptronic ECU and it's making 220hp with a rough tune, so you could expect a bit more from a well tuned and stroked 2zz

said without the power fc im looking at 6k installed thats some good haggling though  seeing you can get the mwr stroker kit for $2250 US not shipped that and its relatively straight forward as opposed to turbo and supercharging options

So with FC + tune around 8k.

That would be really fast, and a thrill to drive.

Its stroked to 2 liters right? I wonder how it would compare to a S2000  They put out 250hp at the fly too!

because these engines have been built for competition it's a bit hush hush as far as Dynos go... However I will say to do some searching and you may get some help. There are a few people on here that have provided a lot of information about the stroked engines, you just need to look. ;)

ok everything u need from the stroker side of things.

http://monkeywrenchracing.com/mwr_toyota_2...troker_kit.html

then i would highly recommend the rest of the 2zz items on this list

http://monkeywrenchracing.com/toyota.html

i.e. valves, valve springs, cams, all the studs and bolt kits .......

Then once u have it all .... off to the machine shop because to fit the sleeves on that stroker kit not any old workshop will b able to do it. Also since u got the head cracked off and its going to a machine shop .... u might as well give it a port and polish .....

the next piece will be getting an ECU + getting it tuned ......

I think ive given you enough info to be able to start doing some maths ..... MWR is in the USA so all prices are USD .....

Haha thanks mate :D

I've actually already gone through the MWR website, and converted all prices to AUD, and listed the parts required for such a conversion, and the pricing involved etc... Like I said, I just need to find a workshop in Adelaide ;)

I asked about Adelaide workshops and tuners in another thread, but no one replied :(

Cheers :D

mate as stated im imagining there arent enough 2zz's in adelaide to warrent a shop specialising/fiddling with them .... maybe there is but none that ive heard of ....

your best bet is either meridian motorsports in melb (although after the weekend was given some interesting feedback that their work isnt all that) or canberra by visiting neil trama who occasionally reads the forum ......

other than that if u find a mechanic u trust and a machine shop that ur mechanic trusts then im sure they could do it .... however being their first time potentially it could take a little longer, cost u a bit more and may not totally come off correctly ...... that being said however the machine shop that did my work had never worked on a 2zz but a lot of honda's and they did it perfectly ......

A stroked 2ZZ with disappointing results.

You should ask yourself exactly what you want for that much money...$8k for an extra what? 20..40...80 hp?

A built turbo project will cost in the similar zone, and be 100-200hp.

of course, u can then go stroked 2zz turbo, which is what the dude was planning for. Then u'll get crazy HP.

But then ti's a case of if u had to ask, u can't afford it. :P

whoops. It's $5k for the stroker kit.

hi tiang,

I think if u read through the whole thread u will find the guy had issues affecting his setup outside of the stroker which is what caused the issues with the setup .....

Ok then. Say I didn't go with the stroker kit, shouldn't I still go with sleeves if I intend on doing cams, pistons, rods, valves etc..??? Or is it safe to not sleeve the block, and just steer clear of Bore damaging pistons (Wiseco...)???

Cheers :D
