hey is the video still up i cant find it?

It doesn't appear to be on the Aurion Microsite anymore. I've tried to search around for it and haven't come across it either. I thought at least Youtube may have a copy of it, but I guess not.

I've noticed that the Nissan Maxima is never included in any comparisons with the Aurion, 'dore or falcon. From what im aware of, the Maxima can hold its own in a drag race as well. Theres a clip on youtube that clocks the max at around 7secs to 100km/h.

thats coz the maxima looks like an abortion!!! however its a very good car - with the 350z engine?

haha i actually think it looks pretty nice. The pre-facelifted one that is. Yeh its got the same (but detuned) engine as 350z. The engine is heaps more responsive and than the commie.

My company car is a J31 Nissan Maxima which I drive to work (pre-facelift). I like the look too, and it's VERY comfortable, like driving a sofa! It's really quiet as well and the engine is no slouch. The VQ35 is a stunner. The car is very well built, and has never given me a single problem after 3 years of service.

My only problem is its suspension is tuned to be an ultra-luxury car and as such, plenty of body roll and understeer. You will not be able to bring this car around a track. Any effort to accelerate fast will be met with copious amounts of wheelspin. However, if you have a family and like the comfortable kind of ride, this car is SEVERELY underrated. Although it is quite boring and misses out on a few new features available on current cars like the Aurion and Mit 380, it does the job extremely well. On average, it drinks about 11.5L/100km in city driving.

Unfortunately the hoon in me means I have since gotten a TRD Aurion, and I will be selling the car soon. I'm quite sad to see it go after 50,000kms, but maintaining another car when I already have another thirsty V6 is not economically viable. I highly recommend this car to anyone who wants a solid, reliable and comfortable car.

Hi Guys,

Me and my partner recently went to the drags here in Perth (Whoopass Wednesdays) and i rented a Toyota Aurion ATX (the base model) to join him. With my bf's advice, we took out the spare tyre to lighten the car.

At the drags, i consistently did under 15s for the quartermile time. In fact, i never did anything above 15s. Each time i did gave it a try, my time only got better! My reaction time was between 0.5 to 0.7s, and my quatermile times were 14.9s, 14.7s, 14.57s, 14.51s.......

Because im a girl and i dont know much, i was thinking 14.5s was slow and that i would only consider a 10s time as fast. But apparently no road going car can do that - not even a porsche turbo... :P

So anyway, this started getting me quite curious, because apparently when other ppl at the drags started seeing my time, they actually came up to me to ask if it was a TRD, or whether i had done anything to it etc. But well no - its base model and its rented! :P Because apparently 14.5s is good???? So i went home and googled the tested quatermile time of an aurion. and i found this blog forum thingy.

i googled the TRD model and they are all saying that its quatermile time is 14.2s..... and im thinking to myself that that just cant be right can it? i mean, with a better reaction time - wouldnt the base model i used be able to do 14.3s??

Can anyone enlighten me? is the quatermile time for the TRD aurion posted all over the web just... maybe.. wrong? or did i happen to rent a 'special' base model aurion?

I've got the time slips etc for my runs if anyone wants to see... i mean im not trying to boast... im just really curious what ppl think.

nice work jess. post up them timesheets coz there will be skeptics otherwise. sounds like a good time tho. how many k's had the rental done - i would say that the engine would be well run in.

lucky u didnt have any dings or you would be paying thru the nose.

hmmm... so is 14.5s surprising for a base model aurion?

anyways, yep, ill get those time slips up sometime this week. note though, the time slips only gives the time etc of the car number i was allocated, and not the car type - so ppl would still be skeptic if they really wanted to be.

freddo, yeah, the engine was fairly new, only done like 4000kms...!

dunno i never seen the official specs. there was a motor test done and i cant remember the times. maybe i was just suprised a girl got a decent time lol :P

i've seen a TRD run a 13.9 1/4mile here in brisbane a while ago...

i'll be taking mine out tonight... so i'll be sure to post up my own results tomorrow... :)

Hi guys, as promised, i've attached my time sheets for my runs at the drags using the base model aurion. i whooped the Skyline GTST R33, but for some strange reason, in the last 100m or so, he just gains 20kms in speed and passes me as well as the line first!?!!?!? maybe NOS?

secaboy, i knew the TRD aurion wouldnt only manage 14.2s as suggested on websites - it must be able to do better! Good luck and let us know how you go!

freddo - hahahaha, im lucky its auto, all i had to do was floor it!!! it was so much fun... :)

For the attachments, im racing car T37 (always the left side of the time sheets). i wrote the type of car i went up against. The Ford Ute did really badly for some reason. He wasnt happy.

What was the last car you went up against? 14.5 is a decent time, considering its stock and with practice, you could possibly shave .2 off your time. Was there a lot of wheelspin? With my touring, i get a a fair amount of wheelspin.

Posted

in two of the time sheets, i was up against the same skyline gtst33. i think i forgot to write on one of them that it was the skyline (they had two different drivers and car numbers).

i did six runs altogether, but i only attached three of my best ones. during my first two runs, i didnt have any wheel spin at all and i did about 14.9 and 14.7. Then the next few runs (which i attached), i revved abit higher while breaking at the start, and it spinned but only like split sec. it still shot off really well. i always shot off first, but the skyline wins in the end.

this whole experience has made me really into the TRD aurion. :P

just some advice.... i wouldnt bother "stalling" it up with a standard N/A car... with the way the stock stall convertor works, its pointless, and could actually slow you down off the line...

just sit there with your foot on the brake and when the light goes green, just nail the accelerator... i've done this in my old euro and i cant remember the exact times, but my times were always a bit slower when i "stalled" it up...

stalling up an auto really only makes a difference if you've got an aftermarket stall (torque) convertor and/or a turbo...

stalling used to make a HUGE difference in my auto silvia...

just some advice based on my limited knowledge and experiance... take it or leave it... :)

Posted

Would using the sports shift mode be of any help? Its not a true sequential gear box so I dont know if it will be able to shave much time off.

Posted

actually thats what i did. i tried the auto as well as the sports shift. maybe its my shifting but it ended up slower?

secaboy, whats stalling mean? i thot it meant when, you know, stall a car, as in it dies cos not enough gas or wrong gear etc.

is stalling in your response referring to braking and stepping gas at the same time?

Posted (edited)

when i say "stalling", i mean when you hold you foot on the brake as well as accelerator so it builds the revs up, but the car doesnt move.. :)

its not the same as a manual car when you can just "dump the clutch" at 5000rpm... the standard torque convertor WILL bog down if you try to stall it up and then let go...

this is from my understanding and talking to people who have been in the motor industry for years.... i could be wrong, but these guys have never been wrong in what they've told me before...

and as i've said before, i proved it to myself with my old honda euro... :)

when i go tonight, i'll try to remember to do one run by stalling it up first, and then another run with launching from idle... :)

then i'll post the results up tomorrow...

theoretically, it shouldnt make any difference at all (if anything it'll be a worse time) considering i've got the supercharger which makes most of its torque from about 1800rpm... :)

I just want to know secaboy, what made you buy the TRD aurion? whats your sorta 'user' review. you had a wrx before - how does it compare?

im a girl, so i wouldnt really go for a RWD cos i cant drive it properly anyway. prolly would kill myself. so its either FWD or 4WD for me. but with the TRD aurion being $50,000.... im thinking what about an EVO instead? I like comfort too, and from the basic model, i quite think the aurion is quite comfortable. smooth and quiet. and i dont mind that red colour in the inside.

Posted

my wrx was far from standard... so its not really a fair comparison...

i still love my old wrx and if it was ever for sale, i'd gladly trade the trd for it... (seriously!! but obviously with cash adjustment!)

selling the wrx was the biggest mistake i've ever made in relation to cars...

however in saying that, the trd is on a whole other level to the wrx...

i have the 3500SL, so its full of the luxuries (plus some) of my old Honda Euro...

but on top of that luxury, its got the balls to move along quite fast if i wanted to...

i had a look at all the other cars in the similar market (ie FPV F6, HSV R8, Liberty GT, STi, etc), and they all were great cars in their own ways, but it came down to one thing for me...

ALL of those cars had the options there for me to go nuts with modifying... i was sick of wasting money on modifying cars, so the TRD meant that the mods are somewhat capped...

do you get what i'm saying?

i've lost roughly $63k over the years on cars... i've got a disease of having to modify whatever car i own, so at least with the TRD, my spending is somewhat limited... exhaust, intake, stereo, rims....... what else?

oh and 50k for the evo? i think its a fair bit more than that, no?

even the 3500S is more than 50k once you get it on road i think...

you shoulda got the liberty GT Spec B... its the nicest saloon ever - inside and out. and not very mod friendly.

i would if i could - but i can't!

i'm a little biased as i have a Gen 2 legacy twin turbo :P

If u'r talkin about latest evo...u can get it around from mid 50s to 60k...

Well... I'd still prefer Aurion..

i drove one of those and apart from the extremely uncomfortable seats, it really wasnt all that exciting to drive...

and turbo = VERY mod friendly, imo...
