do u reckon its possible to have a 'lift light' so when u hit lift the light turns on? lol like how the tx3 turbos have a boost light when it hits boost?....

Easy, get two shift lights,

Set one at 6,000 rpm to come on when you hit lift.

Set the other at 8,000 rpm for when you need to shift up.

nope, 3 blue and 3 red.

3000-4000-5000 (blue)

6000-7000-(somewhere just under 8000) (red)

each LED itself is a shiftlight kit. each are around 50bucks for the red and 60bucks for the blue ones. they are made by chiptorque, it's called the Xede shiftlights or something. my shiftlight project was a perfect example of scope creep. i only wanted one little light to begin with. then it became 2, one for lift and one for shift.

then it grew a little bit more from there...

u can get those kits from autobarn or off autospeed.com

I've also been thinking of this for a while, but I'd rather an F1 style high RPM barage of colour, and also so it doesn't annoy me during my everyday driving.

I'd stage it thus:

5000 RPM - Blue

6000 RPM - Green

7000 RPM - Yellow

7500 RPM - Orange

8000 RPM - Red

Most likely position would be the under-side of the dash display

The theory being once the Blue goes off you are safe to downshift, right into the powerband... :D

polished up with a switch to turn it all off if starts to annoy me

so yeah, as soon as i stop seeing red lights when braking, it's safe to downshift.

don't ask me how it's wired. ask northy.

is your last one meant to be at just under 8000 RPM shao???

looks nice :D

and the switch is a good touch, hadn't thought of that but the position is right where I'm looking...

oops yes, just editted the typo.

i spent weeks thinking and pondering about it. initially i wanted the LED inside the instrument cluster sitting flush somewhere in the tacho. but it was a bit more complicated than we thought. so i decided to mount it where it is now.

northy was jumping up and down " DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT " and ripping up the dash to look and see how we'd do it. poor sod almost cooked his whole arm with the soldering iron at one stage :P

I was considering this a while ago, I wanted a couple of green lights to light up when the coolant was @ 70 degrees to show lift was available, then a red light to come via an and gate when the coolant was at 70 and the revs were at 6,200

I never got round to thinking about it.
