  1. Recieved a reply from the seller with a picture of the Ipod menu - not from the very same unit but the exact same software etc that's used for other cars. So they're making improvements, but still got a fair way to go.
  2. that unit "looks" very good, but I'd like to see the IPOD interface - see if that finally got updated to something decent. And the entire functionality of the unit - Ive been seeing a trend with these units where the differences in how they are both hardware and software to be an only cosmetic difference, and that the basic functionality seems to be the same. I don't get why after all this time they can't make a unit that functions like the factory satnav, cept with ipod and dvd player. -EDIT- Just had a closer look in the ebay thread, and the unit seems to scream quality. I've already sent a few questions off to the seller for more pictures etc. I might actually be tempted to buy this unit. EOI on a factory satnav anyone ? :P
  3. the engine idle speed will change slightly as the ecu adjusts the revs for the best overall efficiency depending on intake temperature, engine load (ie air con system), engine temperature etc etc. unless the engine is changing revs by upto 500rpm ONCE it's already upto optimal running temp (tend to run a bit higher when cold) then it's perfectly normal.
  4. The shift locks only purpose, is to allow you to move the shift lever out of park when the cars turned off and/or without having to press on the brake pedal. It's a purely mechanical button hence there isn't any notification light you've used it, and further it's not something you'd normally use anyway. As the for sudden press on the accelerator, are you sure it's not just the sudden intake in air you're hearing? Usually from idle when you suddenly open the throttle all the way, there is a huge chance in air pressure in the intake pipping which can sound very much like the sound you've described - perfectly normal in all cars. If it's just the noise and the engine doesn't half stall at the same time I'd say that's what it was.
  5. by out west, I'm referring to central QLD, places like Blackall etc
  6. did a search and found marc2020 got around 144kw at the wheels on a stocker, you're 14kw better at 158kw! so when you say about an extra 20kw at the engine I'd say you were pretty spot on. Very impressive, obviously the aurion responds well to free-flowing exhaust. I'd love to know what it can run down the 1/4 (the best way to test a mod)
  7. dragging up an old thread. I'm looking to get a HID kit for the low beams, but can't decide between the 35w and 55w kits - in both cases they'd be wired through a relay properly. I could very possibly be moving out west in a few months hence greater night vision is desired, however I'm worried that 55w might be TOO bright whilst I'm around Brisbane in the meantime (considering other road users). I've had a 35w kit before and it did the job well, but a little bit better couldn't hurt. Anyone here got, or know someone who has got, a 55w HID kit?
  8. exactly the sort I reply I expected - downplaying your concerns without actually addressing them either, all in a few brief sentences. I think you'd have difficulty getting much more in a written message, as from a cost-cutting point of view anything written can be reproduced by other customers - can't back pedal in writing for one person and not expect to have to do the same for everyone.
  9. dragging up an old thread Long story short I've got a spare ZR6 headlight - broken mountings so no good to be reused but plenty fine to play/experiment with. First up getting the parts to separate - easy as removing all the screws, preheating oven to 250 degrees cel, turning it off and sitting the headlight in there for 5 minutes. The front cover removed from the sealant really easy without getting too hot, but it does make a bit of a mess (my poor hatch gloves) Something interesting I found with the chrome surrounds (they're slightly tinted on the ZR6) is that the chrome paint is already cracking and flaking on the inside corners, especially around the projector lense. Just touching it with a screwdriver resulting in bits falling away to bare plastic underneath. I can't be sure it wasn't from the brief stint in the oven, but I doubt it. Sorry no pics yet, no really anything to show but I intend on getting some paint in a few days and given it a coat of shiny black with a high gloss, then doing a dummy reassembly to get an idea of how it looks. Pics promised.
  10. Picked up the Aurion from the panel beaters today - I can honestly say for once I'm more than happy with the quality of the repairs. Car (least the front half) has never looked so good. Plus I got to keep the old headlight to have a bit of a play with! As a bonus they even detailed it inside and out. I can't remember any of the other mobs doing it for me in the past when I've had panel beating done, so thumbs up to Northside Smash Repairs in Everton Hills.
  11. ouch man that sucks. I like your solution :) Good news, the panel beater says I can keep the headlight. It's mostly fine aside from a broken bracket, so I'll be having a bit of a play with in in coming weeks.
  12. car got dropped in this morning. Doesn't look like they'll be replacing the bonnet, they reckon they can repair it, so see how goes. Surprised at the new prices for parts. The front parking sensor is worth more than the bumper! Considering they need to replace a headlight, I'm considering whether they'd let me keep the busted one, for experimenting :D
  13. I'm well aware of how some trucks require a wider turning circle, and hence those that do have that "Do not overtake turning vehicle" sign on the back. This truck was not one of those trucks, nor did it have one of those signs. Further the road had markings to show the way to turn, the driver simply didn't pay attention to them. If you knew this particular intersection, then you'd know the truck had plenty of room to take it properly. Insurance has already been claimed and they're waiving the excess, but no hire car (not on policy) and I don't have choice of repairer - had a bad history with dodgy repairs on cars, only 1 place has ever done it right and they specifically don't do quotes for my insurer. So I guess I'll just have to see how it comes out. On the bright side, the front bar had a few stone chips and the front end will look brand new (hopefully).
  14. Driving to work in the city today, 2 lanes turning left into 2 lanes (william into elizabeth, by the casino), with me in the left lane. Truck driver in the right hand lane decides during the turn he likes my lane better and has proceeded to cut me off, destroying the front driver's side of my car in the process! Bloody fuming! The road was properly marked and everything. His response? "I didn't see you." Kinda scary considering I was parked next to him at the lights for a few minutes just prior to that turn. Insurance is coming to the rescue, but the car shouldn't driven unless absolutely necessary hence I'm without a car till it's fixed! From what I can see, it's a new headlight, bumper, sensor, guard and bonnet (it's buckled on the edge). It's been a bad week for Aurion owners and trucks it seems.
  15. My ZR6's stereo produces "Music". It's okay to good for a completely standard system, but it wouldn't hold a candle to even a basic aftermarket system. That said I have no problems with it and it does the job just fine. The aurion's have an intergrated aerial in the rear window - I'd say it might be a small wiring problem causing the radio to get static once the demister is turned on, either way it's not normal amongst Aurions. I agree with the engine/gearbox combo being great, however more power from stock and they'd need to come with better tyres and suspension setup from the factory else you'd just get consistent wheelspin (reminds me it's about time I do a tyre rotation myself). I believe even if the ECU could be cracked, you be lucky to sqeeze even 10kw from it, although you can easily feel how it's been the torque has been toned down off the mark to limit wheelspin - with better tyres and suspension, I think the aurion's would really launch from a standing start with the ECU slightly reprogrammed.
  16. I'll admit I'm really very tempted by this, and how it'd look on my Gold ZR6. The chrome Lexus type grill won't suit, but in a standard black it might be a neat addition
  17. best to ring them up and ask them, with the manual in hand. Considering it's written right there in black and white they'd have a hard time backing out of any warranty claim. I'm interested to see what they say actually. I'm thinking though that the 10,000km or 6 month letter is probably using a very old format that was never changed to comply with newer cars that don't "need" to be serviced as much. That being said, I'm not too keen myself on leaving it for the full 15,000km or 1 year - maybe I'm just old fashioned?
  18. Not really, you can always take your car somewhere else to get serviced. If I were them I'd like to make sure you were taking care of your car too, even 4000k can be a lot of wear on an engine depending on how it's driven. Do you expect them to just take your word that the car was being properly cared for? Furthermore, my manual says every 12 months or 15000km unless it's under severe operating conditions
  19. very classy looking indeed. I'd like to go this route on my aurion as well, but being a Gold ZR6 I don't know if the chrome would suit it (plus I'd need to add other chrome bits otherwise the grill might seem out of place - not such a bit issue on white cars) how much and where from?
  20. I think it would be better to compare the XR6T against the Aurion TRD rather than the standard ZR6. Still I'll happily admit the newest XR6T falcons are a very well made car, they're actually making an effort to improve their overall quality per model rather than Holden - the car surrounding their drivetrain is rubbish quality
  21. Yep it's the ABS doing a self test or something like that - I think it even says so in the manual. Perfectly normal everyone's does it.
  22. how can you tell? the IPOD interface is completely different for one and actually matches. If you're talking about the DVD player screen, I know my last Alpine unit used a similiar interface for browsing movies etc so it's probably more of a global thing than just based on cheap programs. I think the best way would be to find how the GPS works, whether it's like the factory and always running, or whether it loads up like another program (IGO, tom tom etc) Edit Right I see the USB interface is still the same, and spelling is pretty bad of basic words. And I just noticed when the screen opens in one of the first pics something about a GPS path, so all in all you're probably right. However it's still a step in the right direction, people constantly trying to create a better unit for the ol Aurion.
  23. guys this unit just got posted in another thread http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Advanced-DVD-GPS-Na...#ht_25715wt_971 Very nice looking unit, seems closely based off the factory GPS. If it works in a similar manner function wise then this unit is a true winner out of everything offered so far.
  24. that unit looks incredible indeed! very different from other aftermarket options, it appears to be closely based on the factory GPS unit. Even the rather basic IPOD interface that the other aftermarket units seem stuck with doesn't appear on this one.
  25. All the police aurions seem to run the foglights on all the time - I never really gave it much thought till now, they might be exempt from the new laws. Even though it's hardly been enforced (as in, who cares anyway there are much more important issues to take care of), it wouldn't surprise me if alot of cops, especially the traffic department, starting writing these out in force to keep the bosses happy.
