  1. I'm not surprised about any of these results. Theres no surprise that a modern automotive club (not to mention the fact that we're primarily assembled online) is made up of 75% under 25's. Nor that its predominantly male. After all, the auto game is still quite a boys club really. And the amount of time some of us spend on here, its no surprise that we're 50% single!
  2. Simple answer - Why not?! I second Daryl's motion. Whatever pros and cons I could personally spell out aren't worth loss of membership, lol.
  3. Looked at her out the window, felt I should give her a full detail. Then decided it was 3 in the afternoon, I was too seedy after last night, and I couldn't be a*sed. So she remains in my driveway, dull, unwashed, and longing for attention.
  4. Cheaper than that, go to Supercheap. Sometimes you can pick aftermarket Kenwoods/JVCs up on sale for sub $200.
  5. Cheers for clearing that up Daryl. Thats exactly what I'm saying. But if the key needs to be within the required range that it normally would for the start/stop button to work, then its a pointless waste of effort wiring it up. The start/stop button doesn't work if the key is outside of the cabin to the extent that if I am standing outside the car with the key in my right pocket, and I stick my left foor in on the brake and hit the button, the button still won't work as my right leg (and therefore pocket and the key) are still outside that cabin. Bollocks to that idea then.
  6. I wouldn't mind setting something like this up myself, but I'd rather not lose my boot release on the key fob. Any reason why it couldn't be wired to the panic alarm button instead? Its not like I ever use that button. I mean, if I catch somebody trying to get near/into my car, I'm not gonna make it beep and flash pretty lights at them, I'd more likely go grab 'em by the throat! (OK, so maybe I'm a bit protective of my car!) The concept has its merits. I live in a suburban unit. I leave my car either parked out the front in my driveway, or in my garage, within range of the remote almost anywhere in my house, and I generally only park no more than 40 or 50 metres from work. At home or work I don't normally put my keys in my pocket til I'm outside the door (have to lock the doors from outside at both). It would be good to able to start the car while grabbing my gear to head for work, or while locking up at work, so by the time I get to my car the climate control has got the interior to a comfortable temperature instead of getting into a sauna/freezer.
  7. The 'primer' is basically like an extra adhesive. You coat the chrome strip with it where you're sticking the sheild to, then when you stick the adhesive tape thats on the weathershields to the area, it creates a really strong bond that, once fully set, is like cement.
  8. They instructions are fairly straight forward. Just follow them and you should be safe. Only real pointer is to make sure you have them in EXACTLY the right spot before you completely remove the tape backing, and make sure you hold them REALLY tightly in place while you do so, because as soon as all that tape is exposed and contacts the primer, it'll stick like sh!t to a blanket, and you'll have a real sod of a job fine tweaking them back into place. $114, nice work. Did that include the adhesive primer too?
  9. Probably not. Seems Ari is MIA again. I haven't spotted him online for a while. Has anybody else had successful dealing with RStyle that might be able to take over? Or does anybody have phone contact with Ari?
  10. No worries mate, good luck with it.
  11. Threw the back end up on stands to get under there and take a look at why my rear bumper seems to 'flare out' slightly and not fit right behind the back wheel. Was expecting to find bolts or clips missing. What I didn't expect to find was that on both sides there are 2 holes in the bracket the bumper bolts to, and both sides seem to be bolted to the wrong holes, and the plastic 'tab/bracket' behind (and joined to) the bumper nearly snapped off both sides! Not happy Jan. Needless to say I will be in at Toyota straight after work tomorrow for a new bumper.
  12. Not my car, but a Toyota nonetheless. Reattached the bump strip in the drivers door of a mates 91 Seca. Then he gets home and tells me the other doors are coming loose! Gah! Now we've gotta do more tomorrow!
  13. Do you have a laptop (most people do these days!)? If you do, get yourself an ELM327 USB scanner off Ebay (I paid about $40 from the US), and a copy of Palmers Performance Scan XL. It reads all your codes, plus gives all of your live data from your sensors, and a whole bunch of other performance oriented stuff (which, of course, I would never make use of on public roads ). Although if you only want to check error codes, the free software that comes with the ELM327 works fine. Only downside of OBD-II readers is unless you wanna pay a premium for a top range device or a Toyota IT, you can only read generic OBD-II codes. So if you get an error which is a Toyota specific code, often generic readers won't pick it up.
  14. Aurion. Although the 'rolla has a couple of pros over the Aurion, like a real manual and you can park it in a trolley bay if theres no free parks at the supermarket, but apart from that, the Aurion wins for me. Hence (partly) why I own an Aurion an not a Corolla. Really, though, it just comes down to what you're looking for in a car. I wanted power, 4 doors, larger sedan, and leather, so for me the Aurion was the obvious choice. And fuel economy these days is almost becoming a non issue, as it were. Everythings pretty economical nowadays. My 3.5L V6 Aurion costs me $5 more a week than me 1.5L I4 Lancer coupe cost me, and its bigger, heavier, and more powerful. But on the flipside, a new ZR6 costs 43 grand as well. So if you're looking for a reasonably priced sporty car thats economical, comfortable, cruisy, and the rolla has enough power to suit your needs, then go the roller. Either way you can't lose - they're both Toyotas!
  15. Gday Ghosty, The guys who have those grilles buy them in group orders from Thailand. There, the Aurion is a popular modders car, so there are a great deal of parts available from there. Every now and then a bunch of Aurion owners get together and do a bulk buy of parts, and one of the few that have had previous successful dealings with the supplier will organise it. There is one happening now, in fact, which has been pending a couple of months, but its possibly too late to get in on it, so you may have to wait for the next one. Head over to the Buy/Sell section, and to Group Buys. As for white with stainless mesh, this is something you'll have to arrange yourself. They come as black, unpainted plastic. If you wish to have the surround white, you will have to remove the mesh and take it down to your favourite bodyworks shop to have it painted. You can paint it yourself if you're game, but on such a nice car, its not recommended unless you know what you're doing and can do it well. I poor amateur job would really ruin the look. The stainless mesh should be fairly simple. Simply take out the black mesh that it came with, and whack in some stainless mesh in its place. I don't know whether it attaches the same way, or whether you have to find some other way of attaching, but if you head over to the 'Avalon/Aurion/Aurion Sportivo' section and do a search, you should be able to find most of the info you're looking for.

  17. Yeah, but the thing about non-genuine is that half the time they don't have the chrome strip, which makes them look kinda tacky. Same reason why not to buy from ebay. If fact, I think even the full size front Aurion weathershields don't have the chrome. Only the slimeline genuine ones do.
  18. Adamsy, don't you already have a Presara sat nav unit in yours? As for fitment, I don't have any photos but you've seen mine anyway, with the single DIN, pocket, and side fillers. Fits pretty tidy. Theres about a 1mm gap between the side fillers and the pocket/HU, but thats because the pocket is made from crappy plastic so when you screw it all together nice and tight, it doesn't take long for the plastic thread to losen and strip out. I really need to get into Gunns and grab some bolts and nuts, drill it right through, and secure it that way. I looked at a Pioneer a few months ago on ebay like that one you posted. Was looking at about $400 from the US, BNIB. Was pretty dirty about it too, coz I'd paid $450 for the Pioneer I have, only a month or so beforehand! I'm gonna rip it all out of my dash in the next couple of months though. Once I find a USB touchscreen that will nicely cover the entire hole in the Toyota DIN facia, I will be installing the screen behind it and an old laptop in the boot, as a media centre/satnav/OBD diagnostics system, and mount the Pioneer deck in the glovebox.
  19. Dunno about the mainland, but here in Tassie Gov vehicles rack up a lot of kms because everybody seems to think its small enough to only have 1 or 2 of something for the entire state. So specialists employed by DHHS travel from one end of the state to the other several times a week. And then theres the politicians. Don't get me started on the politicians! They all have to travel to Hobart for parlaiment (fair enough), but how do they travel? 1 to a car! They to get to Hobart from, Burnie, you have to skirt Devonport, slightly bypass Launceston, and the head through the midlands. They could carpool, but why bother? Its all paid for! So, not only do we get cars with high kms when we buy ex gov't, but we're (the taxpayers) also the ones that paid for them to put all thos kms on the car in the first place! /rant.
  20. I know a bloke who installed a sunroof in his R31 Skyline... ...with an angle grinder and a tube of car window sealant! Theres nothing like DIY. ;) But as I wouldn't recommend taking an angle grinder to your shiny expensive Aurion, I would probably talk to your friendly neighbourhood panelbeater. I'd make sure you find yourself a bloody good one, too, because fitting and aftermarket sunroof has the potentail to cause big problems with the waterproofness of your car.
  21. Local? Ha! Apart from the VE, the Commodore was hardly local. Just an enlarged and rebranded Opel. But I'm jumping on the "sod reviews" bandwagon. Many happy Aurion owners on this forum is review enough that its a great car. That or we're all suckers, lol. OK, so it has its drawbacks (poor manual mode, AWD would have been better than FWD, and the facelift headunit is tacky as) but the reviewer's comment that its interior feels budget is laughable. I got to move a new Holden Caprice around a shipping yard a few months back (long story) and in the 2 minutes I was in that, i found the seats uncomfortable and that godawful flush fitting handbrake (not to mention other console and dash components) looked and felt cheap and tacky for a premium car. The ZR6 has almost all the features of the Caprice, (save for sat nav/reverse camera, and even opting for them, its still a cheaper car!), and a bodykit to boot! But a one-eyed Holden fan wouldn't agree with a word of that. But as has been said, the best reviewer of your car is yourself. Sure there are better cars out there. Sure there are worse ones. Its all up to personal preference. Providing you are happy with what your car has to offer you, who gives a rats backside what anybody else says about it.
  22. They are fairly simple to fit, providing you follow the instructions carefully. Took me about half hour to fit the 4 of them. Just make sure you line it up 100% before you peel the tape right off, coz once you get the primer on there and that double sided tape sticks like sh!t to a blanket! The sub $150 mark seems to be the going rate if you talk to the right person at your dealership. As Adamsy said, he quoted me about $134 for mine, both sides. Apparently it ended up slightly more than that, but not sure exactly how much coz my folks ended up buying them for me for xmas. I think RStyleRacing also carry them, so depending on how long you are prepared to wait you can probably get in on a group buy and nab them at a cheap price.
  23. 07 model, June/July (can't remember which) build. Bout 63,000kms. Ex DHHS though, so no surprise there. Bloody government vehicles!
  24. Chris Foster. Profile pic (at the moment) is my Aurion. Or just follow this link. http://www.facebook.com/ParadigmDJ
  25. Dude beckons girl with index finger, she walks over. He says "I just made you come with 1 finger... ...imagine what I could do with the rest?" And One of my favourites I saw pulled in a bar once: Dude: "Wanna r00t?" Chick: "No" Dude: "Well, do you mind lying on the floor while I have one." Short and sweet: "You're fit. Lets fk!"
