  1. thanks, i'll do this once i get my jack back :)
  2. Discliamer: Neither TOCAU nor I will take any responsibility if you blow up or overheat your car during this DIY. If you are unsure or not confident, just get a professional to do it for you. Hey guys, This is a small DIY I put together so that you guys can service your radiator coolant yourselves to save a few bucks. things you need: Genuine Toyota Coolant for your Corolla (Long Life Anti Freeze and Anti Boil (red)) You need 6.7L so 3 bottles shoud suffice. extra fluid is always better 2 4L icecream containers distilled water from bursons/repco/autobahn etc. (if needed) With your car COLD remove the metal radiator cap on the top and this white plug here... found behind your radiator to the bottom right (looking at the car from the front) making sure you have something to catch the coolant, put a icecream container (have 2 handy) so it doesnt get messy underneath. Put it under the hole directly under where the white plug was this is what the plug looks like when taken out after all the coolant has been drained out, replace the white plug and make sure its on nice and firm but not over tight. Start filling the radiator coolant using a 50/50 mixture of coolant and DISTILLED WATER NOT TAP WATER!. If the product says "coolant concentrate" u need to dilute it to 50/50. If you says "coolant pre-mix" you just need to pour straight in. Stop when it overflows. For this particular coolant, just pour the concentrate into the radiator then fill the rest with distilled water will suffice Now squeeze the inlet and outlet pipes so to get all the air outside of the cooling system. you may or may not see the bubbles coming out of the radiator top. once no bubbles come, replace the metal radiator cap securely. now open the resevoir and slowly fill the fluid until full mark. start the engine when the engine is warming up set the heater up 100% hot and let it blow full blast. so this until the cooling fan operates. u can speed the process up by keeping the revs from 2 to 2.5k rpm. squeeeze the inlet and outlet hoses again when the engine is warming up. at this stage, if the hoses are really hot then coolant is circulating through the block. stop the engine and let it cool down. check the fluids again and top up to full mark if necessary. and run the engine from cold to warm using the steps above again until the coolant fluid level stays full. recheck the level of coolant in the resevoir, if below full, add coolant until its full mark. CHECK FOR LEAKS if none... ready to rock and roll! that is all Specail thanks to the guys (CHA54, Superdave and Prozak123-R) who helped me change my o-ring. it led me to change the coolant which is why this DIY is on TOCAU
  3. SICK DIY coming soon! ^_^
  4. ok i just googled this up and understand :) now i did ring up my mechanic uncle and he said that i have to let the heater run on 100% hot when i'm topping the radiator with coolant and the resevior on half full. So i did this and volla! there was some heat running through the pipes and through the heater core in the climate control and all was back to normal. do i need to bleed the system further to prevent any "hot spots"? when do i know when to stop bleeding? i basically kept the metal cap off when i was refilling it and let the air find its way up and bubble and when that was all fine i replaced the cap back on. after this i'm going to post a DIY up for the radiator coolant. learn something new every day... ^_^
  5. ok I got the new o rings from repco... now the problem I have faced is this. I put the fluid back in after filtering all the foreign stuff out and when I took it for a drive, it warmed up but at idle it gave this rough idling from 500-1k. it usually sits in the 800rpm range. when I hit lift the temp gauge went past normal operating temp and to 3/4 up to hot! I quickly pulled over and found that the coolant isn't circulating and the fan is constantly on. what have I done wrong? I reset the ecu already but coolant still not circulating? I only changed the o-ring andnow the thermostat doesn't work now? help! :( edit: this are the o-rings i bought from repco. the one on the bottom off the plug is the other size i got, however i was concerned it didn't cover the ridge on the plug like the OEM did so i got 2 thinner washers and put them in. when i put the plug back in, i felt a bit of a resistance as the plug got to the end. whereas the OEM o-ring didn't have a resistance at all (maybe its its worn in or something) as i took the plug off after the engine cooled down a bit, the hole sprayed out coolant as if there was some pressure inside the radiator and coolant wasn't going past the plug. also i noticed that only half the coolant drained out (i checked the bottle mark and it was half full) would some foreign object would have gotten inside the coolant system?
  6. great... none here in australia... they suggested to go to wreckers or bursons and match the o-ring to the original one. otherwise have to wait 5 to 8 weeks for a 4 dollar part from japan... ARGH! i pulled the plug out, it looks like its a bit difficult to get the old one off too :(
  7. yes yes i seem to be a tight azz but the new fluid is only 2 weeks old! :( that's why I wanna save it hehe :P yeah 6.7L for the 2zzge. dw I use icecream containers for my business so I got plenty of clean ones to use ;) I just hope it wont get to a stage were I can get the ring off and new one on before the whole thing drains out :P ill take pictures for u guys to see if anyone comes past this problem in the future. just plug a plastic bag up there maybe :P
  8. champion! i'll do that tomorrow, hopefully toyota have some in stock :) also i heard from someone that toyota long life coolant (red) isn't too friendly on rubber... he said that ford used to use red coolant until it did the same thing and they changed to the green coolant. he said the dye is the culprit. how accurate is this i wonder? full of s**t. The toyota red coolant is awesome. Remember when you remove that plug it will basically drain your whole radiator, so be prepared for that and you'll also have to refill and burp the system afterwoods. can i plug the holes with my fingers while my wife changes the o-ring on the tap? LOL also can i drain the fluid in icecream containers and use it again? of course the fluid must not be contaminated

  10. digging up from the dead guys. mines leaking from a different spot... it's not a BIG leak but its enough to pi$$ me off. and i found after taking the bumper off its leaking where the tap is, (u can see it in the above picture on the side.) is it common for these taps to leak? can i get a new one from toyota? i know its leaking there because i stuck my finger in the hole where the fluid drains and i feel its very wet in there. i made sure i tightened it up tight but it is still leaking :( also does this rubber grommet serve any other purpose but hold the radiator in place so it doesn't rub against the chassis? i felt its a bit loose when i pushed inside to feel the fluid. thanks guys
  11. oh crap... radiator water is leaking from somewhere...
